Keep in mind guys, the vocals he’s mixing are most likely recorded using high end equipment & recorded by very skilled engineers in well treated booths. This makes more of a significant difference than any plug-in can. I’m certain if he got vocals recorded by someone in their bedroom with budget friendly equipment he’d have to pull out tools like rx etc. Not knocking his excellent work!! But most def important to the approach.

You’re speaking straight facts here. A good mix mainly consists of good performances, clean recordings and a good audio quality. If you have home recorded vocals with Bad mic positioning, 0,2 dB of headroom and a mediocre to bad performance, no engineer in the world, not even a Jaycen Joshua or Chris-Lord Alge can really do a professional sounding mix then.

Step 1: is to get a solid recording. alot of artist really struggle with that in the early stages. And they expect covering up their take with plugins to fix their issues.

To be fair, you can get radio results with a mic for ~300$ today, even in your bedroom, even in an untreated room. As long as you got some furniture and carpets you can't hear any echos - IF you're not singing too loud. The problems of room noise come with high volumes, but since most people today don't sing loud you really don't need crazy treatment - or crazy expensive mics. There are tons of new artists who record everything in untreated environments and get radio play this way.

One thing a lot of people forget is by the time these pro records go out to mixing these vocals have already been produced and gotten to a place that they wanted. the mixers job is to tighten things up so you can see the wave form it has compression already baked in it, and odds are there’s probably some EQ as well as recording in a decent environment. It doesn’t require $1 million worth of hardware for that. But the same approach applies. The pros are starting with a well produced and mixed vocal that was done in the production. So make sure ur vocal has the right vibe in the recording and production phase. Eq compress deess saturate. It’s rare these mix engineers are starting from scratch unless they were also the recording or tracking engineer. when you bounce it out for mixing or even working out of the same session, most of the legwork is already done.

Yea honestly, as long as the recorded vocal is done really well, it’s extremely easy to get vocals this good, and even better. I work at a recording studio and the actually recording is what matters most

yeah what I’m thinking but it’s still fairly bright nonetheless, preamps and analog compressor (high end) on the way before it hits the DAW probably.

Idk what soft/hardware he uses but if you're looking for high end sizzleeeee in vocals, try a plugin called 'gem dopamine' it's got a free trial. It adds nice crisp to the high end and it replicates hardware (idk what one)

Interesting, so He Trims audio Before if Needed like Penua (Pensado & Joshua). This forces me even more to do it to not let the comps and deEsser (which are also compressors) do everything harder

I recommend mics like the SM7B or better for this type of mixing, anything cheaper won’t sound great with this type of mixing (Trust me, I’ve tried for 2 years to get this type of sound with an NT1A and under and it sounded bad, when I got an SM7B and used this type of vocal mix, it sounded perfect).

I have a rode nt1 and it sounds great, but not like this out the box. Just got to use enough eq to match the frequency responses of more expensive microphones.

OK. One thing though... most PlugIns like to be fed with a level of -12 til -8 db. So you are running levels a bit high!

Analog emulations work best at -18db, that equals 0vu in the analog domain, which is what the hardware is sampled at. But purely digital processors with no added harmonics work evenly no matter the level fed into them.
