I've made cracker salad for about 25 years. It is delicious. The recipe I use is by Justin Wilson who passed away years ago. I saw him make it on his PBS cooking show. When you serve it, people think it is potato salad; they have no idea it is made with crackers. Justin's recipe is made without tomatoes but adds celery, pickle relish, eggs, mustard, olives and onions.

@Henry Ford they were speaking of the state. I'm believe they are just saying "not my state! Maybe those wierdos over in Virgina" (Not my opinion just a translation) Edit: for those not US based. Even though we are all in the same country, the culture can be very different from stay to state

I live in Tupelo MS. And in a blind taste test, Southerners actually prefer Hellmans mayo instead of Dukes. But NEVER Miracle Whip.
@susanmazzanti5643
@susanmazzanti5643 3 жыл бұрын
Miracle Whip is boiled dressing so it's outclassed by Dukes or Helmans. Boiled dressing is what you put on potato salad that is being carried somewhere to eat later because it doesn't cause food poisoning as quickly.

I am old enough to remember my grandmother having an icebox that was cooled with ice. Many foods were not cooled because of the inability to do so. Summer complaint, that many children died from, was a low grade food poisening. I was taught some of the logic and skills as a small child. Raw eggs were not a good idea in the summer so that left mayo out but boiled dressing tasted close and would not make people sick. Mayo is also hard to make by hand so it is considered better since it was less available.

Exactly! I couldn't justify boiling them for 10 dang minutes when the residual heat from the pot and the hob keeps them cooking just by themselves - that sort of thing adds up. Next, I'd like to see people start making their rice by toasting it, adding boiling water, and abandoning it in the hot pot/pan under a snugly fitting cover for about 20 mins... saves up a lot on the electric bill over the course of a month.
