I make molds for casting resin. I tried this. 1 tube of silicone made about 24oz of silicone after adding a lot of NAPTHA. I poured a two part mold. I had to add the corn starch after I thinned it and pulled a vacuum on it to get the air out. Wax the part and brush vaseline on it and the other silicone half.

@@GEOsustainable Thanks, One other thing with a 2 part mold, is that you have to make each half the same thickness. That way when shrinkage occurs both pieces will match. The poured ends of each half of the mold have to really be thick.

My expectations were low for the actual amazing result that could be achieved by a silicone extruder, not for your abilities; I was neutral in regard to that, having not seen your channel before. And, I wanted to make a custom silicone tube (square shaped) and was very thankful that you showed me an easy way and indirectly gave me an idea of how to make one.

Iv been trying away of using normal silicone and putting it into a mould to create a fishing lure, Iv made rubber and plaster paris moulds, possibly adding colour, glitter etc to the lure! What are your thoughts or is it even possible? Thanks from Ireland….Padraig

Thank you for your kind words. I am happy to hear I keep things simple, simple is good. Lot's of folks use my techniques to make fishing lures. For your mould, I think plaster will work better than rubber. I think silicone will stick to rubber. And plaster is easy to shape. Glad to hear from a fellow fisherman, I should do a video on lures. You're a genius Thank you sir =) Can you tell me roughly how long does it take to cure for a thinned and poured silicone cast. Knowing that it is poured in a cube shape mold with 2 inch edge. And maybe it would cure faster if i poor multiple layers and let them cure in between
@GEOsustainable
@GEOsustainable 4 жыл бұрын
Cure time depends on the thickness. Anything more than 5mm will not cure unless you add moisture (water). Water is the catalyst. Adding cornstarch is an easy way to control the moisture. Cornstarch loves water. In my series on silicone, I use cornstarch and in this video, I squeezed out my tube in a solution of water and hydrogen peroxide. As I cover different methods in each, I encourage you to watch the entire series, and stay tuned for a new one I am currently making on 'thin pour for pouring a thin sheet'.

@GEOsustainable

It is difficult to know for sure, so I will go over a few things you may habve missed in the video. Use ony Silicone that 'smells like vinegar' when you open it. Do not use too much Naptha, at most 1/4 of the total volume. If you pour it too thick, it will never cure. To cure a thick pour, add 1/10 of total volume of Cornstarch. I hope this helps. If you have trouble, let me know in the comments (new one so it sends me an alert), or you can email me (email in the description.
