I made my own Silicone Release with Isopropyl Alcohol and Dish Soap. Tested against Mann 200 using glow in the dark powder. Result is "YOU DON'T REALLY NEED A RELEASE"!

I think a very important thing is being overlooked. I'm no expert but I've looked at a of videos on the subject by professionals. I have consistently watched them say that releasing is only one of TWO functions providing by a release. The second function is to increase the longevity of your molds, which often can last only last 20-30 casts. They say repeated casts start eating into the sides of the mold, and commercial molds can get expensive. So my "takeaway" is at least use SOMETHING. With resin being as expensive as it is and with commercial release agents not being all that expensive, I'm opting for using them. But very nice, thoughtful video.

I do blacksmithing mainly, but recently got into lost wax silver casting. I have been using silicone molds then filling them with wax to use in my silver pours. When making a multi part mold, Let each part of the mold completely cure first. If its not 100% cured, the next part of the mold will really stick to it after it sets up. But if the first part is 100% cured, you can peal the next part away without mold release. It will stretch your mold though and shorten its lifespan. I use Vaseline but only a super thin smear. Works perfectly and doesn't interfere with the silicone hardening process. Right now I'm working on a 3 part mold of a life sized medical grade human skull replica that will be poured in .999fine silver. I have the first 2 parts of the mold done and waiting on the full cure to pour the last part. I forgot to put Vaseline on before the second pour. Worse case scenario i will have to cut it with a razor. But I'm confident it will separate. I'm using 2x number 12 graphite crucibles each with 22 pounds of silver. It should be enough.

How long do I have to wait for the homemade agent to dry before I start pouring?

If I’m making a silicone mold of this concrete thing, what type of release agent do I use on the concrete before I pour the silicone?
@studio__yoyo
@studio__yoyo 2 ай бұрын
If the concrete is smooth you can use a regular silicone release, but if the concrete surface is rough or has lots of air pockets, you should try to smoothen out first. I hope this helps, thanks

Hi. Could you help me with this? How do i get my silicone sealant to be more liquid and runny? I want it to dry slower, so that i have the time to work on it creatively

Thanks for watching the video and asking. I did have the same issue with the pot life=working time. I think the silicone in this video had a 30mins pot life and one time I ran into a huge problem making a big mold. The silicone start curing before finishing the pour, ending up slowing away a big chunk. I only can recommend to buy a new silicone that has a longer pot life. This product for example: www.rawmaterialsuppliers.com/product/magikmold-t-124-tin-cure-silicone-rubber/ you can change the pot life with a different catalyst=hardner...

I don't know for your application but Silicone Release Spray can be washed so you should be able to paint and used it in the aquarium...

"You don't really need a release" isn't the takeaway here, as this isn't going to guarantee separation. Sometimes you get lucky, other times you don't. If you don't get lucky using no release on your mold, you're down a mold.

No the take way is not having to pay exorbitant price for something that you can make very easily and simply at home for way cheaper of a price. And the only one I saw her having difficulty with was the last one that ended up chipping some at the end where the other two came off relatively easy so I'm failing to see your point.

@@lacheregriffin-denton9946 If you want to save $20 and chance it with a mold that costs twice that in price of silicone alone, be my guest. I don't run my business by gambling my materials. You do you though.

@@CoreyFaure WTH are you talking about? I'm talking about this video and what the point was and when you look at the video clearly the mold that had the release on it came off actually better than the other two did it just all depends on the type of release that you use which is actually the point of this video is not to go and spend money on a spray when you can use Simple items to accomplish the saying goal. So how did you get that I was advocating for a release spray when I clearly said the point of the video was that you can use Simple less costly things in order to bring about the same reaction? Some people are so special🤔🤔🤔🤔🧐🧐🧐🧐
