Proof of customers' complaint is a vital part of successful diagnosis. You are right, some do their road test and after that it's guesstronics and load up the parts cannon. That joint was pretty cooked! I don't think I've seen an inner that bad before. That noise must have been there for ages. It would have been a real mess had the joint finally broke free! I don't think the dust boot would have held it in place. 😁 Thanks for sharing! 😊

Thank you for sharing such an exclusive video on this issue. In my case I feel a jerking (no metallic clicking as you have demonstrated in this video) only when the gear shifter moves from drive to reverse. But when I move the shifter from reverse to drive then there is no jerking at all. What could be the possible causes in my case?

Hi Gerard, i just got the 4 engine mounts replaced and the mechanic didnt tell me about this, i have a rattling noise when moving off in 1st gear and reversing, parking etc... low speed vibrations, they did replace the driver side drive shaft both inner and outer boot so i guess they should have detected if it was the drivers side drive shaft so my guess is,,,since they did nothing to passenger side drive shaft then the near side drive shaft must be the culprit..correct? please tell me what you think.

Cheers Shane 🙏 Customer never mentioned one (as they didn't notice any difference) and at lower speeds there was none present with my test drive. I also suspect at higher motorway speeds a vibration of some sort would have been felt with how unbalanced that shaft had become.

@Thewheelguy5 Жыл бұрын
You posted this comment 2 months ago and nobody helped you. Luckily I'm here to help you. A rear wheel drive vehicle uses a drive shaft to send power from the gearbox in front to the differential at the back which transfers to the wheels while in a front wheel drive the power goes from the gearbox to the differential and the CV axle transfers it to the wheels. Hope this helped you understand better.

09 chevy equinox does that. When put it in reverse or drive, theres a click noise on front wheel drive. My thought was drive shaft end that connects into the transmission. Is there a bearing or seal there that would do that in the tranny? Just happens on driver side.

Hey, were you able to diagnose this?
@jordanmercier36162 жыл бұрын
Lmao, I've had this issue on my vehicle for like a year and a half and this whole time I thought it was an issue in the driveshaft because my vehicle is known for having a clunk in the driveshaft. I'm in the middle of changing the CV and I stumble across this video just watching random things. I can't believe this may have been my issue all along.
@honestone49011 ай бұрын
This video shows It was indeed the drive shaft on this rear drive vehicle that was the culprit. The equivalent on a front wheel drive vehicle would be the cv axle. This vehicle in the video had a very badly worn drive shaft. The driver ignored this issue way too long. If they had caught it sooner possible only the u joint could have been replaced and would've been less costly a repair for the customer. In your case, with a front wheel drive vehicle if you catch the problem early enough sometimes only the boot needs to be replaced and if it deteriorates further then it's the cv joint or later the entire cv axle which needs to be replaced. The master mechanic should have explained these differences better when it comes to rear drive vs front wheel drive vehicles. He could have offered better advice on saving money for the consumer by catching this common place problem sooner rather than later.

I have a 2005 MK1 Ford Focus Ghia 1,8 Petrol.It started making a grinding/screeching noise when the clutch pedal engaged the biting point but as soon as the gear is engaged the car drives normally with no noise from the gearbox in any gear or speed.The fault was obviously the clutch so I had a new clutch complete including the hydraulic release bearing fitted but the problem still remains.Now I'm thinking it's the spigot bearing so I contacted the clutch fitter,he told me that my car has a solid flywheel and does not have a spigot bearing fitted he seems to think it's the lay shaft bearings causing the issue however,the gearbox is smooth and silent when driving,the sound is more apparent when using the clutch in traffic.The mechanics I have spoken to have all said it's the clutch slipping but it's not!

I’m having a similar sound going on intermittently when I change the position of the gear selector usually when going into reverse park and drive. It’s hard to tell where it’s coming from by myself but when I open the door it sounds as if it’s coming from the back side.. Before this I had been trying to diagnose another issue which is a noise or similar clunk that I’m getting from the front driver wheel. I can feel it when I’m either releasing the brake or pressing on the brake when changing direction. Only at very slow speeds. I suspect either the FL lower control arm and bushing or something to do with the front brake pads or calipers. But now that I am hearing this I’m not sure. Could it be the CV?

Ask your dealer about any transmission updates which might be available and necessary under warranty.
