call me old school But i like these types of bag . They are bomb proof

Good job Dave. Probably won't go for the bag but I like that sleep mat for an insulator. Folds up nice.

It’s a neat feature 🥥. The bag is very average. Especially for what I paid for it

Just bought one! Generally speaking mfh makes decent products, but they also offer dirt cheap stuff that won't last long. In the rucksacks case i was surprised by how close the got to the original (my father had the original 80s) i like the simplicity and the use of materials, that makes it easy to modify and repair. Price wise it doesn't have much competition, usually such "vintage" bags cost at least double the price, while cheaper options are made from plastics and fake leather. For 54€ its a good deal in my opinion

I have one of the original issue ones with the plastic buckles dated 2003. Love its simplicity and bombproof german engineering. Only complaints is the 2 pouches. I like my packs organized so i prefer at least 3-4 built in pouches so i know exactly where my stuff is in case of emergencies. Other than that love this pack and will be using it in case SHTF.

P.S. Räer Hildesheim, have the old BW Rucksack ( 3 Outside Pockets ) with Suspender like the US Army in WW 2. A better Potatoe Bag in my first Wood Year mid 80' s. But with the New Suspender, possible a bit better.

I have this original surplus pack. It's ok the bottom vinyl has started to eliminate, the shoulder straps are to wide and I have wide shoulders.

I think I'd much prefer the version I was issued when I was in the Bundeswehr. It had heavy-duty fastex fasteners and IIRC the fabric was at least partly synthetic. I had basic training from November to January and even though we were quite often in close contact with snow and mud, it never once let water or moisture inside.
@verysurvival4 жыл бұрын
I seen the original ones that are completely lined to keep them water proof
@kaizoebara4 жыл бұрын
@@verysurvival Now that you mention it, I think I recall (it's been 20.5 years since then XD) a thin layer on the inside of the fabric. It kinda peeled off in many places, but still, never had a problem with moisture.
@kaizoebara4 жыл бұрын
@ed Same basic dimensions and design with the reinforced bottom and top as well as the side pockets with the tunnels. Only the straps were about an inch wide nylon webbing instead of leather and plastic hardware, eg. fastex fasteners. Also, the shoulder straps were padded from the outset, no seperate padding to mess with. Found a picture for you: www.raeer.com/images/full/55230i-BW-Gebirgsj%C3%A4gerrucks.gif

@@verysurvival Not mine, it's from a German military surplus shop. But yeah, I was regularly schlepping ~20kg through the lower saxon landscape in a pack just like that during basic training.

Hey Dave, yea I’ve just reviewed this MFH pack and I said pretty much the same as you. It’s ok but it’s “budget” and a bit crude in places. Brandit do a really good copy of a mountain pack if you’re interested. Laurie

If i`m informed right this Rucksack wasn`t and isn`t issued to "green" units. They use a Kampfrucksack or, way, way better a Berghaus Atlas + Berghaus Munroe.

But I don’t know what a green unit is , is that a unit that is inexperienced?
@mrd70674 жыл бұрын
@@verysurvival Oh my fault. Green units are combat & combat supporting units like infantry, combat engineers and the like. People who get out into the nature / woods. I have seen this backpack only twice and that was when i got a military drivers licence (in barracks where there were no "green" units), and in airforce airports. I have to admit i don`t know what backpack tank units and military police have. Certain unit have the tendency not to sleep outside, not even in basic or to even wear flecktarn. I have to admit i don`t know exactly where this name comes from. If you want to put size/weight on it: "Gebirgsrucksack": 25-35 liter Kampfrucksack: about 60 or 65 liter / basic load about 15 kg and sleeping bag on the outside Bergaus Atlas: 110 liter Berghaus Munroe: 35 liter Units/people who get the Berghaus get both and have the tendency to fill both up and carry them together when in field. I have only experience with the last three and have to say the Berghaus Atlas is by far the easyest to carry, even with three times the weight.
