This German band was part of the program to recognize the importance of Prussian troops in the Battle of Waterloo. This is the 200th anniversary of the Battle.

Nice to see how prussian glory fits perfectly well to the british style of swinging the arms while marching. Nice.

Well, the Prussians also swing their arms back then a little bit I think. At least the legs then later.

The Prussians swung their arms as well, in the Weimar Republic it was the same, once the Nazi Party took control was when they begun keeping their swinging tight to their body.

British history teaches that the Battle of Waterloo was won by the Anglo-Dutch army under Wellington. The truth is that without the Prussians arriving in the nick of time the battle would have been lost. So it was won jointly by Blucher and Wellington!

Side note: The current german armed forces, the Bundeswehr was founded in 1955. 1000 years before, in 955 there was the first campaign in which levies from all german tribes formed an ,german' army.
@huntingrunner Жыл бұрын
@@brittakriep2938 You talking about the Varusschlacht? That was hardly all german tribes.
@brittakriep2938 Жыл бұрын
@@huntingrunner : Attention! When we germans speak about ourselves, we call ourselves , deutsch' or ,die Deutschen'. When we speak of ,Germanen' we mean either our ancestors in tribal age, or the members of all germanic nations. So the troops in 955 campaign, when german king ( from 962 onwards Emperor ) Otto l fought Hungarian troops, invading Germany for plundering and robbery on Lechfeld near Augsburg, came from those tribes , which formed the GERMAN nations at this day. This means: In marching order the Avantgarde had been Bavarian troops, then Otto l came with his Saxons, next the frankish ( franconian?) troops, then the Swabians, then the baggage train, and as Arrieregarde the Bohemians/ Czech. A bit unclear is for me, why no Thuringians. That no Frisians had been envolved, has its reason of no frisian nobility, only a lot of chiefs. That no Brandenburger, Pommern or Schlesier/Silesians had been envolved: This regions had been in 10th century not conqueted / settled by germans, but by ununited slavic tribes. So, you know about ,Battle of Teutoburg Forrest', which was in 9 after Jesus Christ, in this case germanic/ germanisch , but not german / deutsch is true. In Teutoburg days, nobody expected this, what later became German Nation/ Deutsches Volk. I hope, this helps you.
