How can Steroids (Prednisone) help with Tinnitus which is caused by bilateral Menieres 24/7 365 days a year? What is the amount and schedule? Steroids do have side effects. I can’t pay for consultation I’m on disability because it also effected my balance.

My husband doesn't have it anymore. Hard to say what helped him, but the biggest change in his lifestyle is that he eats beef everyday and eats fruits (almost not veggies). We also soak all fruits in vinegar for 15 min to get rid of most pesticides. He also does not have migrens anymore (he used to have twice per year, and he was not able to function normally for at least 2 days ).

I largely got rid of it. I don't know what exactly helped but I started taking this: Magnesium & Cordyceps & Lionsmane. Maybe it's the combination, maybe it's just one supplement I benefit from most. I don't know It went from very annoying I would say a 6 on the scale of 10, to a nearly not noticeable 2 on the scale of 10. If it stays this way I'm a happy man (Been like this for 2 years now)

I have suffered from bilateral tinnitus for over a year. I have had a hearing test which showed normal hearing. My professional training is in periodontics. I have studied dental mal-occlusion and TMD in dental school. I believe somatic causes have contributed to my tinnitus. I believe the following conditions have contribute to my somatic tinnitus. Sleep apnea, heavy clenching and night time teeth grinding, and in-ear head phones. I am a firm believer that the use of some popular inner ear headphones with strong noise canceling and bluetooth radio frequencies can mount an undue burden to the auditory system when other somatic factors have already sensitized it. I think the role of sleep apnea could not be overstated. Sleep apnea could lead to extreme clenching and grinding, inflammation and pain in muscles of mastication, cervical neck region and stress to the auditory system. In my opinion, the relationship of tinnitus to auditory system and cranial nerve VIII is the same as trigeminal neuralgia to cranial nerve V. I would be interested to know if any physicians or dentists here might have any feedback?

My ENT doctor said, "You don't have an ear problem. It's stress." and then left. If it's stress, why do I hear ringing in my right ear and why does it pop? I do have neck issues so this podcast makes total sense. ❤️ Very frustrating that so many people are dismissed this way!

Your guest is correct in that most ENT doctors do not have a clue about tinnitus with the usual response being you will just have to put up with it or suggesting some expensive hearing aid with white or other colour sound to mask it. I did the rounds of ENT "specialists" and in the end it was my own research plus a knowledgeable chiropractor that diagnosed it as somatic linked to a forward head position from too much time on a computer. Since I can alter the sound by simply rubbing my head I have come to understand that it is a fascia problem that links it to the autonomous nervous system. This means a fascia problem in another part of the body, in my case a lower back disk operation, can link to the semiautomatic sensory center and so is helped by fascia release which chiropractors and orthopedic surgeons achieve inadvertently.

Same here...with "eventually you'll go deaf, there's nothing that can be done with tinnitus". The only thing he didn't say was "Dismissed!"...but his attitude said it loudly. My bilateral continuous high-pitched hissing tinnitus onset is the result of dental work, but when I tried to talk to the specialist about it...he shook his head and changed the subject. I've learned over the past 5 years that I'll have to live with this because other than pushing a useless pill at it, there's nothing to be done and they don't want to be bothered anymore.

I had tinnitus for approx. 30 years.I have dual tones....one high tone and a low tone most of the 30 years...and is in both ears and it it continuous. About 5 years ago when it got louder I went to ENT....took the hearing test and they said I have a range of hearing loss. However I feel that the tone is in the head and ears.About 3 years ago I went to a chiropractor that also specializes in N.A.E.T. which is an allergy elimination technique. After several treatments the tinnitus stopped in my right ear. It still remains in my left and is dual tone.I have tried almost everything for it in the 30 years.Very grateful that it stopped in the right ear. Sometimes the ringing will get loud while I sleep and it wakes me up.Some days it is louder than other days.So there has been no such thing as to sit in a quiet setting and have peace.....the band is playing all the time.I still look forward to a day where I can hear and feel silence once again.....! Cheers....!

Yours is very similar to my tinnitus - I have high pitched jet engines in both ears, but worse in the left, and a low pitch in the right as well. When at it's worse I feel there is an increased pressure in my ears, but otherwise no real rhyme or reason. Low volume storm sounds at night helps me sleep. I think playing in rock bands and riding motor bikes probably caused mine, it would be very wonderful if it could be stopped after hearing the constant shrill for 35 years.

I've had bilateral tinnitus for around 8 years now. Was very annoying for the first year, causing a deal of stress, but have gradually gotten used to it and sometimes forget I have it. I believe it was caused by a particular medication I was taking immediately prior to its onset, but doctors have disagreed. Strangely, in recent months I have been taking the same medication and after I ceased it a few weeks ago, I gradually realised my tinnitus had gone. Hopefully for good. Feels weird not having crickets and cicadas buzzing in my head all the time.

To stop my tinnitus, I listen to the same pitch as my tinnitus which has fast bursts of the sound and silence. When I feel it disappear I stop the sound until it comes back, then repeat until it’s dramatically reduced for a long period of time. I was lucky to discover the technique because an app I use (belltone calmer) happened to have sounds at the right pitch (birds plus crackling fire played simultaneously)

A clear explanation of the condition with hope for treatment is very powerful in simply reducing my overall anxiety level. I know in my case that when the stress/anxiety level increases, the tinnitus becomes so loud that it can cause panic. Taking control with meditation or breathing exercises will usually bring calm and lower the tinnitus perception. Seek help if you cannot manage on your own.

Both my son and I suffer from very debiliatiting tinnitus -- his from firearm exposure, and me, I had it from childhood and it just grew literally intolerable after getting sick with Covid. He was really struggling with it, so I convinced him to go to the hospital for help because he was feeling literally at the end of his rope with it -- I understand this so well. He went and they were very dismissive of it and told him they could do nothing to help him, really, no one could. He went home and four hours later he ended his life with his shotgun. I now struggle in the wake of this, and also feel very hopeless. I lost him, and I see no end to the tinnitus torment for myself. Every single day is a struggle, and nights are even worse. In one last ditch effort, I made an appointment next month for a hearing clinic that supposedly specializes in tinnitus, that is within my insurance network. I'm praying for relief -- any kind -- at this point. God bless everyone suffering with this torment. Mom to Anthony Thomas 1/2/23 forever 29

I'm so very sorry you're dealing with all of this. It has to feel overwhelming and hopeless at times. ❤ Take the quiz. And maybe even do a zoom call with this Doctor if you must. Rely on loving family and Friends to help you through it. I used to carry the burden of sadness and pain from the loss of my mother. I didn't want to be a bother to others. They realized this and stepped in. And I found a therapist I connected with. Participating in social and physical activities I liked was huge for my depression. And that all helped.

I had tinnitus in one ear for 20 years and managed to deal with it with white sound therapy and time. 2 years ago, I developed a sound which seemed to come from more my brain than my ears and keep changing in intensity, disappear for a few day from time to time and sometimes from month stops me from concentrating, work etc..I also get tingling sensation in my neck and upper back, dizziness and headaches linked to the intensity of the tinnitus. I've seen countless of ENT doctors, who charged crazy amount of money to give me an hearing test ( even though I tell them it hasn't been affected) don't listen to me, don't ask me questions, gaslight me telling me theses sensations and headaches are not linked, and tell me to go and see a psychologist and relax. What a rip off and how those people do drive me crazy ( which has no impact on that sound).

I had a very light tinnitus for 2 years I think, but some weeks/month ago it got louder and annoying. My ENT doctor said that it's coming from my neck/jaw muscles and he can do nothing about it. That seems plausible, I can change frequency/intensity by pressing my cheeks or moving my jaw. Or by pressing jaw muscles with my fingers. I've started to grit my teeth because I've been under a lot of stress recently. Father died, grandpa died, dog died, wife got depression, trouble with job etc. Now I saw that my dentist specialises in the treatment of CMD. I told her what the ENT specialist had said and she laughed, saying that we have good chance of improving my tinnitus. She made me a bite splint and gave me a prescription for 15 appointments of physiotherapy. Lets see, I am sleeping now with the bite splint and sometimes I already forget about the tinnitus. Tomorrow first time physiotherapy.

I’m 67 now so I’ve been dealing with this for a long time !

Has anyone ever studied people with kyphosis (hunchback/ forward head posture) and tinnitus? Mine came on sudden - out of nowhere, although at the time I was complaining over and over about having a sinus infection or ear infection- for which no ENT agreed. My audiologist suggested to go to my dentist, and he felt something was wrong but could not see anything on my tooth X-ray - however he gave me 875mg amoxicillin for 10 days and within 48 hours the tinnitus calmed way down. With the antibiotics, I also lost the cheekbone pain, ear fullness, and this weird fullness down the side of my neck (if I puffed my right cheek, I would hear fluid behind my ear squish and then I could take my hand and squish that fluid down the side of my neck), and I had a painful right jaw and clicking - but then the antibiotics were finished and the tinnitus returned at a low level. However none of the other strange symptoms returned - except for the jaw pain, which never went away. My dentist said to see an endodontist (root canal specialist) as they can do a cat scan and that doctor said it is very evident I am grinding my teeth hard on the upper right back teeth, and that is causing issues with the teeth and feeling face pain and jaw pain and jaw clicking. He said it could make the sinus and ears hurt - but that weird fluid thing that was happening when I puffed my check (which was there for 2 months but completely disappeared with antibiotics is a mystery). So I don’t know if I had some weird infection that antibiotics killed and then also have some grinding / TMJ issue ? I feel if antibiotics made the tinnitus lower or non-existent and then returned some once I stopped taking antibiotics that something bacteria must of been going on? The other issue is that I have scoliosis and kyphosis- and so now I also wonder, is it postural and maybe the antibiotics and all that were just coincidence? That maybe something is shifting in my neck and nerves which made it quiet for a few days and now back slightly. When it first happened it was a high pitched dog whistle sound 24/7/365 and I could not hear over it. Now it’s still high pitched metallic ssssss but much lower -- When I went to the ENT for this sudden onset tinnitus- I said it’s too ironic that I have complained of fullness in my ear and sinus on the right side and now have right side tinnitus- it has to be correlated. He ran a hearing test which measured the pressure in the middle ear and there was no fluid. The audiologist said my hearing is normal, but the ENT pointed to some upper frequency hearing loss on my test (audiologist said this is normal of anyone my age) and said ohh this is why, and that his conclusion is that I am getting older (51) and that this just happens. That this is nothing one can do about and to get to grips with it. I said how it’s only on my right side and how do know if I have a tumor or anything going on? He said cuz the minor upper frequency loss on the hearing test is equal of both ears - so nothing more to do here. No scans, no tests, just live with it and told me to get a good psych doc cuz many folks can become suicidal- oh and Happy Thanksgiving, oh he also threw in how not to follow anything on the internet - how it’s all snake oil online, when the truth is there is nothing that can be done. I dunno it’s exhausting but this channel has been very helpful.

I have scoliosis and kyphosis and I started getting a wooshing blood flow sound in my right ear 3 years ago. I don´t know if there is any connection between scoliosis and kyphosis and my persistent wooshing blood flow sound. I went to a chiropractor and he told me that we can correct kyphosis easily by correcting the posture and exercises to straighten it ! I hope it helps a bit. Good luck. Meditation works for me.

Thought I'd add my 2 cents about this video, my somatic tinnitus, and some steps that have proven some relief. My experience in the beginning is exactly what Dr. Golenhofen described. In my case, it was a waking up one morning and hearing a loud repeating tone around +13000 khz in my left ear. I wasn't undergoing a particularly stressful period in my life, I'm almost near *religious* with using hearing protection (ie: Mowing lawn, driving, don't go to concerts, listen to music softly, etc..) and I have no previous use of ototoxic medication, stimulants, alcohol use, infections or pain. To say my initial consultation with my first ENT was disappointing is putting it mildly. The appointment started with a gruff "WHY ARE YOU HERE?!" when they noted I did not have any measurable hearing loss on my audiogram. Upon asking some questions as to what sort of treatment plan I could expect, my appointment ended with me being walked out of the clinic in a confused state, being told I should talk to my dentist. I would say that *this* is where the stress then started from. After quite a few rounds of seeing different specialists (Physiotherapists, Dentists, TMJ specialists, other ENT's) - I came across one TMJ specialist that noted - while I did not have TMJ disorder, I should be screened for *Sleep Apnea*, due to a small throat opening - and referred me to see a sleep specialist. Upon seeking the help of a sleep specialists, I underwent a sleep study, and the doctor there was *super* helpful. He identified I had UARS (Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome) and prescribed the use of a Bi-PAP machine. His argument was that *untreated sleep apnea can be a factor in night bruxism (teeth clenching)*. Clenching can put pressure on the cervical and jaw joints, which can ascerbate and irritate nerves that pass through these areas. The argument is that the body is fighting for sufficient oxygen during the night, and one's mouth will move / clench / struggle if there is not enough oxygenated air passing through. (Incidentally, this might also be an argument as to why one's tinnitus disorder is can be alleviated when they undergo hyperbaric oxygen therapy) . There are some case studies dating back to 2009 in the sleep apnea field of patients alleviating their tinnitus disorder through use of CPAP machines or mandibular-advancement devices. Furthermore, given that a CPAP machine increases the overall air pressure in the sinus and auditory, oxygen levels in these pathways is increased (making it harder for harmful Anaearobic bacteria to grow) and open up synovial passageways to help them drain properly. Lastly, untreated sleep apnea can result in loud snoring / low blood oxygen levels / Stress and fatigue, which can also acerbate our perception of one's tinnitus disorder. ... I mention this, because - unfortunately in my case - the ENT's that I consulted with *did not* pick up that I had sleep apnea / UARS. It took a visit to a 3rd dentist for them to notice. I was really surprised by this, as you would figure that an Ears-Nose-*Throat* doctor would at the very least screen for it. Hope this helps.

Here's my events leading up to my latest hearing loss + extreme Tinnitus: Sept 2018: got on an airplane with an undiagnosed ear infection, eardrug hurt/popped, lost 20 db of hearing in my R ear July 2021: woke up with extreme neck pain, could barely turn my head + Tinnitus, pretty bad tinnitus in my both ears. Note the herniation was to the LEFT paracentral/foramen. Had surgery on Dec 2021, woke up and tinnitus was entirely gone. Nov 2023: had dry whooping cough for 4 weeks, harsh cough. Hearing fine, no tinnitus Nov 23, 2023: extreme neck pain in right side of neck near Atlas/Occipital bone area. Nov 27, 2023: hearing loss occurs late afternoon. It was stark contrast and tinnitus came on. Ears full. Nov 30, 2023: first ENT diagnoses with Meneire's Disease, hearing loss in R Ear is up to 70 db (conversational volume, especially females), Dr administers 1st ITS steroid shot Dec 3, 2023: see new ENT, she's much better and much more earnst. Administers 2 more steroid shots so have 3 in first 11 days since onset of hearing loss with tinnitus. I've seen began Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Hyberbaric Chamber (HBOT, oxygen therapy), high dose B Vitamins, 85-90% max HR exercise intervals, Sauna, Steam Room, neck extension/decompression, and some Rx that stimulus middle ear blood flow. Only the exercise + steam room seem to help relieve some tinnitus. Hearing loss might be slightly less but might only be tinnitus factor. I have a sedated MRI tomorrow to check for cochlear cyst. I have an advanced hearing test on Tuesday (like one mentioned in video vs the usual audiogram which I do believe my tinnitus masked some hearing). Hoping to begin dry needling and physical therapy of the neck this week. Can report back any findings I have here. I'm not sure which issue I have. I am thinking it's muscular/nerves in the neck.

The ear is so dry it rubs the cocclea and makes by his high pitched sound of a tea kettle going off. My dehydration caused from symptoms of multiple active ulcers. Along with this is a vital hernia in my stomach. Total weight of me 5 ft. Female was only weighing the most 90 pounds. Petite all of my life. I only weigh 67 pounds. It's hard putting on weight . Trying to drink protein drinks , chocolate everything that has a high calorie count. Problem my stomach won't let me eat a whole meal . I m supposed to eat small bits all day long. It's hard eating meals that need heating up . Eggs , bacon ,toast . Meals like this. Anyway the Tinnitus sounds keeps me awake . My nervous system is shot . This in turn bothers the ulcers. I did find a way to get that high pitched sound lulled a bit This is dying a sleep rain app on my smart phone. Rain with thunder , fans . The Tinnitus on KZbin sounds to drown out the high pitches are ok but found for me is the rain , fan sounds. I sold hearing aids. It was a crooked business because the people I worked with did not have their rooms sound proof. You could hear traffic inside the building. We went out to the customers homes. The business was closed down as I reported it . I had to for the people the senior citizens who trusted this company. In no way was I going to be part of that . I have a good clean conscience . I hope she of you can use the rain and fan sounds also theirs meditation with soft light music .

Might there be a 4th cause, which is broken or damaged hair cells in the cochlea? These cells are letting potassium and chlorine ions into them constantly, thus making the brain think it’s hearing those frequencies. Normal healthy hair cells only allow those ions through when they are vibrating due to normal sound frequencies hitting them. So, this type of tinnitus is of a bio-electrical and chemical nature.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom of knowledge..... I have had tinnitus now for the past two years..or so.. my hearing is fine as I I'm having a checked on a regular basis.. I do have arthritis through my neck and body... it seems like when I do heavy lifting .. the ringing becomes louder and tighter.. I'm accepting as an arthritis side effect.. Yoga and exercise is my go to game to stay on my game..

I’ve had tinnitus for many years. Mine was from working in a laud factory for 30 years. The worse time is at night trying to get to sleep with the constant ringing. Some nights it drives me crazy.

I was diagnosed for 8 months and there was nothing found. I went on salt water flush for 6 days. On the 3rd day the sound disappeared. Most tinnitus are due to digestive system errors. For six days i did not eat anything. Only drank coconut water and lemon juice.

Some drs here on youtube think they may have found the reason for tinnitus, pointing to inflammation spread from the gut up into the cochlear region of our hearing system by a wheat allergen(gluten) in the american sad diet. The continual intake building up and maintaining this tinnitus symptom through said bodily systemic inflammation, with reports of relief due to lowering and eliminating grain based carbohydrates over time..

Not all tinnitus is caused in the same way. Some drugs cause it. sometimes it is caused by head trauma or neck trauma. sometimes it is caused by the jaw alignment. Sometimes it is caused by hairs in the ear canal being damaged. And the list is large.😢

I got tinnitus right after getting rid of a covid infection. A few days after feeling fine i woke up with it one morning. Lately i have noticed a very strong link between my stomach and my tinnitus loudness. When i have an upset stomach, which i have quite often because of IBS, the tinnitus is NOTICEABLY louder. I write "noticeably" in caps because i am 100% certain of this and it is not some imagined correlation. When i have a good period, with a well working stomach and digestion, the tinnitus get much lower. WHY!?!? I HATE THAT I DON'T KNOW WHY!!!!

Have Tinnitus for 18 years. In the beginning it drove me crazy and my hearing is at 10-20% in that ear. I got used to it. One Doctor reccomended to have surgery and remove pieces of my ear (all about surgery and making $$$$) Never found any solution. I bought Cortexi after paying for a bottle $79 with shipping. USED it for a bit less of a week, but unsure if its snake oil or there is something to it. I have to listen to this entire video.

Do you know, that some people, myself included, got Tinnitus after they had Hearing test? As for me, I had Hearing Test (my earing was OK I wanted to check up only) in Miracle-Ear Co on January 18, 2024 and got the first strike of Tinnitus on February 06, 2024. Since then "white noise" did not stop and make me creasy. I learned a lot about this nasty Tinnitus on Internet and follow you, Dr Ben, podcast, thank you very much! How you can classified my case, Dr.Galenhofen? Thank you very much for your passion to serve people without any help from official medicine!

We would need to know more information. It is unlikely that a hearing test itself could cause tinnitus but the stress of the hearing test or the results of the test may induce some anxiety which could be related. We would be happy to discuss further. Schedule a complimentary telehealth consultation: treble.health/consultation

I have had tinnitus since 1988. Gets worse when you eat high in sugar foods, crisps and chocolate. I got it when i listened to the music on my hi-fi with the headphones on, set at high volume. There was this high pitched whistling sound in the background when i was listening to the music, due to the music being transmitted from far away. When i took the headphones off when i finished, the sound around me was like a gargling sound, like when someone gargles water in their mouth. After a few seconds my hearing returned to normal and everything was ok. Anyway the next day when i woke up i heard this ringing sound for the first time, and it sounded like a high pitched water kettle going off when it is boiling. It has never gone off since 1988 and some days it is loud and some days not so loud, but it is always there. Always thought my tinnitus was caused by the fine hairs inside your inner ear being flat caused by the loud music, nomally the hairs in the inner ear are vertical and cancel out any type of unwanted noise.

Combined Escitalopram and Clonazepam was given to me.Tinnitus gone in the meantime but recurred after a few months as I had stopped medicine Now I have restarted since yesterday and become vegan and doing neck muscles exercise I think neck stiffness and tender spots are root cause in my case along with fear and grief based upon religious teachings

I had shoulder surgery July 1, 202. They shot nerve blocker in neck to numb arm for 48 hours after surgery. Woke up nausea from anestha, 5 days later took oxycodone for pain for 10 days, laying in a reclyner while healing shoulder and got Tinnitus both ears. I dont know cause. Its now August 7th 2024 and right ear feels like its stretched and needs to be popped. Feels like my bite is off slightly. I unclog ear by holding nose but clogged feeling comes back along with high pitch constant sound. Aniexty medication help some. Primary changed blood pressure medication 3 days ago to see if it helps but high pitch sound is constant not pulsating. Please help.

I'm sorry to hear about your struggles. It sounds like your tinnitus may be related to multiple factors, including the recent surgery, medications, or possible issues with your ear or TMJ. It's crucial to visit an ENT specialist who can evaluate your symptoms, check for underlying issues, and suggest appropriate treatments.
