Concerning service in restaurants: The general concept of restaurants in germany is, that you are a guest. You are supposed to have a good time there. If you are sitting there with your friends after having had your lunch or dinner, discussing and having fun, you may do so as long as you like to. It would be consifered to be rude, if the waiter came to bring you the bill (and imlpicitly asks you to leave the restaurant). It's your table until you decide to setle the bill and leave.
@krollpeter8 жыл бұрын
Yes - and it is considered being rude to keep sitting for hours with not consuming anything, if the restaurant is overcrowded and many people would have to walk away. Otherwise everyone is welcome, even if only a small drink is consumed.
@skellett17 жыл бұрын
Peter Kroll mostly in overcrowded restaurants people tend to leave soon after they finished. If you need a eternity to leave at some point someone will come up to you and kindly ask whether you could leave.

I live in Germany and this is still now heaven on earth for me. I am half Dutch half German. Like most of my family, we used to live all over Europe, but the last couple of years over 50% of us moved to this country. The reason? How it is organised, maintained and cared for. Sometimes you feel like living in the 70s because of the way they dress or ideas Germans have. The social control is everywhere, but never disturbing. The general idea of being superior is nowhere to be found. Intelligence is a must in discussions. You need to have a broad knowledge of culture, politics and general stuff. The only thing is the lack of speaking other languages. This is on the other hand improving slowly but surely. Kind people, great nation, my home. My Germany.

There are no naked people in the parks because it is illegal but on beaches in Germany you have FKK sections where everybody can run around naked. I do not recommend going there dressed because that looks weird and there are no hot chicks btw.
@Benman27858 жыл бұрын
also in parks its allowed to be nacked as long as its "Naherholungsort" - topless women are allowed EVERYWHERE in germany (may not curches and some official buildings but nearly everywhere in public) -> all any one in germany has to wear is a tanga (string) of 13cm² fabric -> enough to cover your penis (and balls) or vagina -> you cant be arrested for wearing these in public (but u can be forced to leave the area for being a "Öffentliches Ärgernis")
@moepediblupp8 жыл бұрын
Compared to other countries, the chances of seeing somebody naked in public are way higher in Germany. Running around naked might get you into trouble, but isn't prohibited by itself. Actually , especially young generation, are open and those who associate Germany today with the Third Reich and has prejudice that germans are racists are very dumb. I like the girls also. Every girl here drive bike everyday as they mention in the video Germany is very bike friendly, and because of this they have nice bodys. Germans even the older like and do sport alot. Girls are very open and straight maybe this country is the one where woman and man are the most equal to my expirience so far. German girls could approach you by themselfs if they like you, they dont act like ''princesses'' with huge selfesteem (which doesnt mean you mustnt treat them and every girl you have no matter of the nation as a princess!), they dont get impressed by expensive cars and money. Basic bitches are not so often to be seen here. I love this place because everything have rules and peoples obey the rules for the sake of everybody...

The most fascinating thing about Germany to me is when I was on the U-bahn in Berlin, a guy that looked like he was just leaving from work (still in his work clothes), brought a bottle of beer (a bottle, not a can! Germans don't like cans) on the train and drank it as if he was in a bar. and there was a sticker on the window literally saying "NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED ON THE TRAIN". I turned to my German friend and before I could say anything he said: "The sticker says no alcohol, but doesn't say no beer allowed." LOL! That's German precision!

@flyingby37036 жыл бұрын
MrWalker1000 Japanese cars tools etc. are usually of very high quality. The thing is that the Japanese have a culture of working as much as possible. Germans don’t see it like that and work less but more efficient than most other places. Also the Germans value the human element a lot. It is known that if a person is well rested, they are more efficient. That is why in some german businesses workers can take a 30 minute nap in the middle of their working times. The company knows that if they work more efficient they will get more out of the money they pay them.
@MrWalker10006 жыл бұрын
yes that is very true of their cultural differences. Japan is about overworking to death as much as possible to achieve perfection while germany is about effeciency and getting rid of unecessary use of energy. Both seem to work because German and japanese companies are some of the best in the world in their respective field. Many japanese and germany companies are unrivaled in the world even though they both have different approaches. I blieve korea is also more like japan where as northern european countries follow Germanys way of life.

Pretty much correct, except for the public nudity. It is strictly illegal to get naked in public and could get you in jail. There are some areas like beaches for example, where it is legal and common, but never, I repeat, NEVER just get naked in front of other people here. And Germans rent so much not because "it's nicer" or sth, but rather because we don't build nearly as much wood houses as Americans. In America, when living out of the big cities, land is very cheap and building a wood house without good temperature isolation is much cheaper than what the German government wants Germans to build. This is mostly for safety and space reasons. Heating, water and electricity is also much more expensive here.

It is not strictly illegal to get naked in public. you basically can get naked in a park, in the forest etc etc, BUT only as long as you are not doing this to get any sexual satisfaction, you know ;) and thats the law. i see many people in the summer who are getting naked in the park to sunbathe in the middle of the city

To all the American doubters, that say: "I don't like to pay with coins but with banknotes because the coins might feel greasy and paper is more hygienic." Let me tell you this: Coins are far more hygienic because the copper and the silver sets free the ions, which kill the bacteria. Banknotes are far more unhygienic: There is no silver or copper on them that could kill bacteria.

While being naked in public may not be allowed, it does sometimes happen. And there are actually a lot of public pools and lakes/beaches with separate nudist areas. While living there, I found German culture to be more accepting of nudity and sexuality in general. It was actually very refreshing.
@TheAxel654 жыл бұрын
... and in many other places nudity is tolerated. Being naked has a long tradition in germany: As early as the Middle Ages, bathhouses were used for nude bathing. In large parts of Central Europe, people bathed naked in rivers and lakes until well into the 18th century, albeit separated by gender. Nudism as a movement developed in Germany as early as the end of the 19th century and experienced its heyday in the 1920s.

Okay, now I'm confused. I've never, in my entire life here in Germany, seen someone get naked in a public park just like that... and I don't think that would be legal, either. Other than that: A waiter that doesn't notice you for a long time is bad at his job, simple as that. Same goes for a store clerk who acts like he doesn't care: He probably actually doesn't care and isn't all that happy and good at his job. They are doing it a different way: The bad way. Even in Germany we like good customer service. ;)

@bramscheDave8 жыл бұрын
There are FKK areas in some parks and some lakes (nudist areas). If you are naked in those areas, it is acceptable, but you can't just strip off wherever you want. Waiters and waitresses tend not to disturb you unless you signal that you want something. It is professional courtesy, they bring you the menu, come back after a few minutes to take your order, then bring the food and drinks. They will generally keep an eye of your table and will come back when drinks or plates are empty to ask if you are finished or if you want something else, but they won't disturb you when you are eating or talking. If you want something, you have to signal them, then they should normally come straight away. The same after the meal, instead of trying to chase you out of the place as quickly as possible, they leave you to digest your food, until you signal them, that you want to pay the bill. Similarly, in shops, a good assistant will make themselves known to you, ask if they can help and when you say no, they will meld into the background, until you signal them, that you want help. They just aren't "in your face" all the time, they give you your personal space and generally only break into it when requested to do so.

Hes talking about averages and clichés and they are probably right. They are a lot more facts and things thats typical german, but its not really wrong what he said.
@Etherion1957 жыл бұрын

There are some inaccuracies in this clip , i will only address one , regarding Restaurant , it is impolite to bring the bill when one has finished eating , in Germany it is the custom you can stay as long as you want , in some other countries they bring you the bill immediately and one gets the feeling on has to leave ( often profit motive by the owners ) Germany in this case is very different , to long to go into but it is cultural of course , if you like to learn about more , Julius Caesar even mentioned the German culture in his letters , which can be read . For those who have never visited Germany , please do , and please try to forget Hollywoods opinion for a while , make up your own . You and all , are always welcome .
@dickturpin47865 жыл бұрын
That's the same in Britain, I have never had the bill presented to me at the table, you ask for the bill or pay on the way out depending on the type of establishment! If you stay for hours and it's busy they might politely ask you to drink in the bar if there is one, but it would be considered impolite to stay at the table for hours if you're not eating or drinking.

That is not true. Nudity (in theory) is allowed everywhere and at any time. You can even send your nude kids to school, although in reality it might not be as easy. As long as you don't do it without the intent of harassing someone, it's legal. There are only a few people really living the nude life though. If you visit Germany, you're unlikely to see any. Sometimes they're on tv, where they show off their nude lifestyle and how they go shopping and everything. They're usually living in smaller towns with less than 10,000 citizens. I think in the city, you'd probably have a lot of problems living like that. Also because the proportion of foreigners is much higher in cities, people in cities are more prudish.

I have never been in Germany yet, but being a German language Interpreter i have met so many german people in India, they are really good and not much friendly as indian. I found some of the correct information, which has been mentioned in this video. If anyone wants to visit India, i can help them for any kind of convenience...

Please be aware that the image created in this video mostly fits for the south of Germany, especially Bavaria. Germany is not the Alps, Leberkäse and Oktoberfest, as a German, I really can't stand people thinking this way, even though its not their fault. Germany has so much more variety to offer! So if you're planning to visit Germany, don't only visit the south, although it is a very beautiful part of Germany!
@evilpagan23426 жыл бұрын
TheTomatenfritz3000 Amen. Bavaria is only 1 of 16 Germans states and it‘s really all by itself in so many aspects. I‘m mostly just embarrassed for the Bavarian „culture“. Ut has nothing to do with most of the country.

Variety ? LOL Germany is a homogenised boring country full of uptight and unfriendly people. If you have dark hair and eyes they look at you funny.

France is much better, especially the food. Germans eat shit food. Anf France has the Meditteranean sea.

@@samdowner1792 sorry to hear that. depends on the region of germany probably. Here in Dortmund 18% of the population have a migration background. The Ruhr area, in which Dortmund is located, has been characterised by immigration for over 150 years. No one will look at you funny here. I'm sorry that you had to make this experience.

Most of the facts are wrong and too general. There are huge differences between north and south. These facts refer more to Munich than to the rest of Germany. You May not forget, Germany is a federal State with different rules and law. Bavaria is only a part of Germany 😁. I live in Düsseldorf and the bars are still play music outside after 10 o clock at the evening. The stores never closed at 7 o clock at the evening and the Oktoberfest is not that important in the north part of my country. But Carnaval is the event of the year :-). There are more wrong facts .... but I have to work again.🌺😁 Greetings!

I wondered when I was in Munich that every store closed at 8 or 9 p.m. It doesn't make sense to me, in other federal states you can buy drink or food until 10 p.m. or even 11 p.m.

Most of these facts are just wrong. Shops close between 8-10 pm or even later. A lot of things are opened on sundays. Nudity in public is prohibited by law. It's only allowed in so-called 'FKK-Bereichen'. Almost all of the impressions you showed in the video were from munich or any other BAVARIAN city. That's not what germany looks like at all. Each region in germany is different. German people are reaaaaally friendly people. They smile a lot at each other even if they don't know each other. If the waiter is not coming to you until you ask him to do, is because the guest is king. He/She doesn't want you to 'force' to leave the restaurant by bringing the bill. You can stay as long as you want and the table is yours until YOU decide to go. Because restaurants, cafes, etc. are not only for eating or drinking. They're for meeting friends and having a good time. The Oktoberfest is a bavarian thing and there are also festivals called 'Volksfest' which are a bavarian thing. It's copied by other regions of germany but not typically german at all.
