I take your point though, the German people are ultimately responsible for the government they elect, and the actions that government takes in their name. The Brits are equally responsible for their government, as are the Americans for their government, and the arms sales that facilitate this genocide. Practically though, many of the electorate of those countries are against their governments actions. I'm a British passport holder, but marched against the Iraq war, and today routinely march for Palestine. The British government does not well represent the people of the UK on this matter. The polls show the population wants an immediate ceasefire, for instance. That leaves us questioning the merits of our democracies, when the will of the people is not reflected by the political elite. A huge component of this war has to do with international strategy, power in the region and trying to enforce Western hegemony. Israel is an aircraft carrier, the business end of a Western gun. In that sense, saying the Germans are responsible is not incorrect, but it doesn't reflect the nuances of the situation, it loses the context. Germans are like any other European (less funny) but there's nothing unique about their support for genocide (the origin maybe, post-Holocaust cultural guilt).

I was born and grew up in Nuremberg, the "City of the Nazi Party Rallies", amidst the ruins caused by German politics. A "Street of Human Rights" was set up here as "reparation" and a reminder of the monstrous crimes committed by Nazi Germany. This memorial was recently cordoned off by a massive police operation to prevent access to a pro-Palestine demonstration. I myself was registered by police and removed from the square My crime: A small cardboard sign "free Gaza". Ali holds up a mirror to the fact that Germany is clearly still on the wrong side of history. This disastrous policy cannot refer to my name, my solidarity is called "free Gaza", free speech for Ali and all those who stand up against Zionist barbarism and its supporters in word and deed.
