These a just barely over 2 inches and the amount of time varies. You definitely want your hair to fully cool down before removing but I've left in them for hours before lol. Thank you, Summer; this was very helpful. I have fine hair but (thankfully) a lot of it. Volume is something I want but don't naturally have. My Mom got her beautician's licence in 1940! She did perms back in the day (and some on me!). I'm wondering, if a perm done with large rods would yield volume, as well. The hair could then be styled but the basic volume would "permanently" be there. Do stylists even do perms anymore? (I'm thinking of trying this. When Mom gave me perms, I wanted curls yet this also resulted in more volume, as well. My hypothesis is that with large perm rods, I'd have large waves I could straighten when I styled my hair but I'd have the volume. Do you know anyone who has tried this?)

I always wanted to try a “root perm” as well for volume at roots but keeping my hair straight!

I've never had a perm, did two test rods once at my root to see what lift it could do, but I was to scared to commit! I have only done perms on my Granny(RIP) so I'm not super familiar with them. They should help with volume, but from my understanding you do have to be careful with them if you also are lightening your hair as they can be harsh.
