So I feel the interviewee contradicted some of what you said at the start as it turns out he spent about 16 weeks networking. Next he put in 100 hours on an assignment for the company. I won't disagree that maybe these are the things that are required now, but it's a shame for sure.

Great thought! The important point for me is how early he started. He didn’t wait until the end of his bootcamp, like so many people do, so his network was primed and ready when he actually had the skills! Which meant, he was hired before he even graduated ❤️

Okay not to be a hater but I see this approach talked about by mostly white people. It’d be cool to hear from non-white people about how networking actively helped them in their search

I don't have a quick summary of each developers' job search approach, so you'd have to do some digging, but the thumbnail should direct you to those who share a similar background as you.

@@junior_jobs I appreciate your response. I am not trying to be abrasive but I want to make sure people are aware that the degree of goodwill they may experience is variable. I was told by a more seasoned dev to reach out and ask who the hiring managers might be for positions I am interested in. When tried this, the company told me they can’t share that information with me. When I explained this to the seasoned dev, he was shocked as if that had never happened to him before. I can’t help but feel like he had benefited from being an average looking, slim white man while I am an average looking, heavier Latino man. That doesn’t mean this strategy doesn’t work. I’m sure it does. I just want people to know that their response rate might be below what this person being interviewed may have experienced

@@DanEMO592 You're absolutely correct that any individuals mileage may vary with really any job search advice 👍 I have no doubt that your experience is not uncommon, such is the reason why I try to talk to a variety of folks from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. If you know of anyone who broke into tech from a non-traditional background who fits your demographics, send him or her my way! I'd love to interview them!

This is good advice. I have been trying this tactic I hope to get results like you do!! I'm still building my brand through KZbin and LinkedIn in hopes I can land a position and help the next one. Good job
