It's nice but can't compare to the 60s road runners and superbees. And honestly 1973 and earlier muscle cars starting going downhill on looks and big engines with big horsepower. Best ten year period was from 1962 to 1972. But mainly 1966 to 1972.

@mikeyfourbarrel8473 8 жыл бұрын
So this car was ordered with the half vinyl roof...but isn't it possible that they matched dented cars to custom order sheets? It seems like the custom order isn't mutually exclusive to the lore. Regardless, this is one amazing Mopar. The '71-'72 B-bodies are wildly under appreciated in my opinion. I can't wait to see where this goes.
@andreaandchris3868
@andreaandchris3868 6 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. Not a thing wrong with the car,, but as a manufacturer, why spend to repair a minor flaw when you know you could sell it with that minor flaw covered as an option. It's not detrimental to the car, just something that would catch the eye in a reflection. Good business sense.

That is an absolutely beautiful car. I almost bought one almost like it in high school, but couldn't come up with the money. I wound up with a '70 base Challenger 318/auto, green with a white vinyl top, black interior, and real Fenton 5 spoke mag wheels. I love both Roadrunner body styles, but believe they ruined the front end in 1973. I would replace the vinyl top, have the seats redone, and at least have those tires turned around with the white letters out. I would prefer BFG Radial T/As Oh, and I'd also install the original 49 state exhaust tips on it. If it is all original, expect every single suspension bushing to be rotted away, bad ball joints and steering linkage. My Challenger had all those problems with only 56,000 miles on it, and it was only 5 years old when I bought it in 1975.
@andrewpaul7441

I had a 1970 440 SIXPACK Challenger got it in high school. 50,000 miles still under factory warrantee. Like new. Auto, 4:10 Dana. Racing green with black vinyl top and the rubber burning Bee stickers in the rear windows. Those were the days. Oh yeah. Price $1600 bucks.

I agree completely. Most people, including myself prefer 1968-1970 as our favorite B-body cars and 1971-1972 have acceptional styling and still look great, but there's just a stopping point "wtf no!" when you see a 1973. Same here.

Gorgeous! My 71 coronet wears 2015 18 inch cop car wheels. 255 50 18 fit fronts great and I pull turns that my friends 2016 charger rt slides through. Lx leathers seats from 06 ish 300 look great in these. I painted mine with black dye, added a bit of aluminum trim and a light welded seat/console frame so I drilled no new holes in my car. The back seat took a day of tinkering. Using only factory mounting on the car, the look just right. 2 Bose 5.25" subs from a house sub fitted into 2 transmission line under rear seat boxes fill out light weight low budget sound. All second hand bits. No cutting or drilling. Nag1 is next step

The point is to enjoy it, it's not a super rare model. If he really wanted a manual, make it a manual, if he wants some sort of gas mileage on the highway, get a 5 or 6 speed. shit's not rocket science. Make it a "meh" resto-mod where it looks great from 20' and not bad up close but not perfect so if it gets a small scratch here and there, not a big deal, but you can have a shit ton of fun in it.

@TheBrokenLife
@TheBrokenLife 8 жыл бұрын
ricardo rocha No. A Gear Vendor's overdrive box (or extension) is like $5k and you only get a .80 over drove ratio out of them. You're correct that you lose torque multiplication by swapping to higher gears, but that's the trade-off he made. A gear swap is much more affordable for what David wants out of that car. Plus swapping gears and 3rd member in a 9 3/4" is about a 40 minute job if he ever changes his mind. You also have to keep in mind that he has plenty of other cars that are fast, like the Crusher Camaro, the F Bomb, the Muscle Truck, etc, etc. He just wants that one to be a cruiser.

But I felt the 71 RR was awesome with the fuselage body, and it WAS back in the 70s when I was a kid. I ended up with a Grande because it was $300. I was about to peel the vinyl off the roof but a catastrophic accident intervened. I wasn't sure how I felt about Freiburger at first, but it's hard to imagine today how cool and special this RR looked. That's a spaceship, no way around it. Better than the hyper-rich aftermarket has made the boxy RRs. Much respect Freiburger, awesome car.

@AutoYoung 8 жыл бұрын
That could still be true with the "X" even if it was custom ordered. They just took a car that had a flaw in the roof and used that to fill the custom order. Just like the TX9 cars. Only the most flawless examples got painted black and whenever they got a dead straight body it was almost certain to be painted black.
@adamtrombino106
@adamtrombino106 6 жыл бұрын
I was told by an old guy that worked at the Belvidere plant that the X on the roof just meant that the car was getting a vinyl roof period. He didn't mention anything about paint or body defects. What's interesting to me, is as a sign of the times, most Chrysler products in the mid to late 70s came 'standard' with some sort of vinyl roof so that they didn't have to do a good job blending the roof to the A or B pillars, just stuff a ton of seam sealer in the cracks and paint right over it.

Hey there guys at motor trend. Idk if you read these comments. And I can only speak for myself but I do feel a lot of people may agree with me. I've always loved roadkill and David & Mike but paying to subscribe to motor trend one demand just to see these shows is kinda shitty !!!! I , like many others don't have "extra" money all the time to pay for these shows. I understand that part of that money helps to pay Mike & David for their hard work. But for some of us it's hard. Specially for me being injured with a broken spine and disabled at the moment. So not being able to work means I don't have extra money. Anyways I just thought I would share that with you guys and show at least one example of why some people don't pay to see the shows. I wish I could pay specially to support these guys. But I can't. Either way I do show my love and support here on KZbin as I have for a long time now. So keep up the great work boys 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻 and Marry Christmas to everyone reading this 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

The '71 Charger SE I had was almost identical to this RR. It came with a 383, 2bbl(!) carb, single exhaust, TorqueFlyte, and 2.76 rear. Wasn't equipped with electronic ignition but through "Direct Connection"(remember when?) got the complete kit for the RB 440 with an adaptor for the B engines. An Edelbrock DP-4B with a Holley 3310, a set of Jardine headers with 2.5" exhaust, thru "Corvair Turbo Mufflers" to the back bumper. Had to install a Trans-Go Stage II kit in the trans to get decent shifts out of it. The 2bbl cam gave it so much low and mid range torque that I never bothered changing it. Very fast and reliable(note: I said "fast"....not Quick!"). A really fun cruiser! Wish I still had it!

WOW that list of parts and manufactures was a walk down memory lane. D.C., Jardine, "Corvair turbo mufflers",was the DC ignition the gold or chrome box comp. or street, DP-4P, PER PERFORMER Hi Rise dual plane. 3310 plain no *1ect were rated at 780 CFM later the dash# became 750CFMtrans-go,ect...
@ajwilson605
@ajwilson605 8 жыл бұрын
@roger..... the ignition box was chrome...came as part of an upgrade kit that DC sold back in the late '70's, also came (for extra money) with an Accel coil...NOT the race only one! Kit came with the chrome box, ballast resistor, wiring harness, coil, and distributor. It was a 3310(no dash number) with a manual choke, a true 780. Edelbrock didn't call the DP-4B the PERFORMER when I bought it. Glendale Speed Center(Glendale,CA) loved seeing me come through the doors....LOL!

Very nice. Always wanted to find the one my mother drove but never can. 71 Road Runner 426 Hemi 4 speed with pistol grip, Tauny Gold Metallic color, chrome bumpers (like the one in this video) bench seats. A thrill to ride in as a kid. It was repainted canary yellow, given yellow bumpers, racing stripe added, on Mopar cover twice, but no Google search over the years finds it. :(

Its a blanket way to heavy a cloth to be a Flag. You can tell by the way it folds. Seats pretty torn up for the mileage IMHO. Appreciate the sentiment but, if that's the worst thing done to the flag it's all good. Besides my take on Freiberger is wouldn't do that. Out of respect, seriously...

David I love the show. I really like the fact that you want a car that you can drive without worrying about stone chips or little dents. I would love to see a big stroker in it that's naturally aspirated with maybe a 50-125 shot of nitrous oxide. Update the transmission to an TorqueFlite 8 speed auto and drop some 3.55 or 3.73 in the rear. It would be an awesome cruiser and still be able to move pretty good in the 1/8 or 1/4
