Good old Grundfos. Hasn't changed in forever. Back in the late 80s when I became apprentice in Germany Re-circ system was a standard in any home. And I just started seeng the pumps here in the US. Also re-circ line would feed any fixture along the line in the house and not just the furthest one. We also would install a special per code mandatory valve to every room/space that had water supply on H and C (from a single garage sink, half bath, random sink, to kitchen, bath and main bath). That valve would allow a plumber to shut the water off just to that particular isolated area without disturbing the usage in the rest of the property aaaaaaaand more importantly to me as a plumber, that valve had a tinny life saving nipple on it self that would allow release of remaining water in line if pipe sweating is necessary or air purge needs to be performed. I have not seen such a valve in the US as of right now. Does it exist and if so what is it called Mr Hardie? Also, is there any upcoming trivia tool giveaways happening soon? I could refresh my tool selection again. 🤣 That Dewalt set serves me well I have to say. Thanks again! 👍👊

I have seen the valves your talking about that have a small port that you can loosen to purge air. They don't seem to be readily available at the supply houses when you need them. Now that you reminded me of those I'm going to look to throw a couple in the supply. That would save the tee and boiler drain.

A tip for the weekend warriors and handymen who attempt doing this using copper and SharkBite fittings: you must pull out the plastic insert inside of the fittings - especially when you get close to the pump. That insert will rattle-around inside of the copper due to the water flowing and you will hear it throughout the house all day and night long - all it takes is one SharkBite fitting close to the pump to cause this. If you are using PEX with SharkBite fittings, you have to leave the insert in to keep the pipe round, and you won’t hear the noise I described. The best thing to do is to just not use SharkBite fittings.

so, they are going to waste a lot of energy keeping hot water pipes all around house hot instead of a couple gallons of water I just put water heater right below bathroom, so it only takes 10 seconds with no pump.
@nous_defions3 ай бұрын
It's using 26 watts to power the pump. Can be very efficient and effective when the homeowner programs the pump using the dip switches to only pump during the times of the day when they will need on demand hot water. This system is very efficient and beneficial for people that live in deserts where water is scarce or not ethical to waste. Better in t hose situations to use a very small amount of electricity than to waste a precious resource.
@ranger1783 ай бұрын
@@nous_defions i think the waste of having a giant loop of water hot all day is the big energy waste it heats house in summer adding to air conditioning cost and the cost of constantly reheating the water

@ranger178 I didn't see in the video where he ran the line, I'm assuming the attic, which would have no affect on indoor temps.

Yes Absolutely.... Fresh Water is absolutely a precious resource. It's crazy to me that people don't see that... People love a good Steak!! Those days are numbered

That's a stretch about the the heating loop heating the house..
@MattCantSpeakIt3 ай бұрын
But then that pipe running across your house is constantly hot, loosing this temperature, so not only the pump consumes electricity, but you end up wasting heat all the time, so the heater also use more power! just open the hot water on the bathroom sink as you get ready for your shower... by the time you are ready and shut off the sink, the hot water is probably there or almost there...

Classic convenience vs cost issue. Yes, it costs more: hardware and installation; electricity for the pump; more energy usage by the hot water heater. But lots of people spend money on things to reduce waiting.
@LearnPlumbing3 ай бұрын
@MattCantSpeakIt Also saves a tremendous amount of fresh water. Also money savings for this customer that pays for city metered water. Fresh water availability will soon become a major concern and topic.
@MattCantSpeakIt3 ай бұрын
@@LearnPlumbing Thats not wrong. I'm not used to metered water. The best solution would then to have a button in the bathroom that starts the pump for 5 minutes, so you can cycle the water in the pipes to get it hot. you press it when you enter the bath room, and by the time you're ready to get in the shower, the hot water is there.

@@MattCantSpeakIt I was going to say, I saw in a different thread where they plugged the recirc pump into a smart outlet, and then used home automation to turn it off an on. Could be a manual button as listed above. Could be perhaps a motion sensor outside the bathroom (if MBA, inside the MBR) that turns the outlet (pump) on, and leaves it on until 10-15 minutes after no more motion. Decent compromise between hot water ready when you go into the bathroom, but not having to do anytime manually to get it, and not having it run all day.
@MattCantSpeakIt3 ай бұрын
@@jwhite4 For example, here, my air echanger starts and stop automatically through the day, but i have a buton that starts/add to a timer in 20min increment up to 60min so it run constantly during your shower. That same button could just start the recirc pump

It’s called a water heater not a hot water heater. Hot water does not need to be heated.
