I love how you go through all the standard light theory with real world examples and personal anecdotes. The fact that you are not selling or promoting anything only sharing knowledge and passion is inspiring. Your unpolished way of teaching how to be polished in truly genuine. I'm sure you could grow your channel by doing reviews on new equipment. Please don't. This is so much better and more respectable. You're definitely winning and are setting up a much better long term fanbase. Ironically, I learn more of what to use or not watching you than others peddling the latest camera tech!

After seeing this video I really wonder why people are so obsessed with cinema cameras, giant aperture lenses and soft backgrounds because these shots are gorgeous and SHARP. The Nevada desert is blowing me away with how beautiful it is. The entire scene is in focus. Then Markus shows how to light for a certain purpose. But just the wide shots look so awesome. Just about every camera gear video on youtube looks like soft mush compared to this. 1" sensor camcorder for the win. I know it's not an either or thing, but seeing sharpness after so much blur is a real treat.

thank u. i learned a lot. remark about wind: might be an issue with light gear. there's a reason the heavyweight stuff is so. u can overcome that if u start early and have a good day, or master knots and field anchors, though u waste time and energy doing it. another reason why the early, real-shooting-time site preparation tour is important.

Thank you for another excellent video, Markus. One could build those light frames out of PVC pipe because it's cheap, light, strong and easy to cut. One could use a shower curtain as a diffuser. One could even feed bungee cord through the PVC pipe and then you have a springy collapsible frame that stays together, just like the professional ones :)

PVC bends and bows which isnt good for fabric that needs to be stretched tight. 5/8" aluminum stays perfectly straight, weighs less and takes up less space.
