Ahh, little blast of the past from my high school days! I’m still living in the northern suburbs of Detroit back in the day in Segers neck of the woods. Lol Hard to believe we went to a Seger “mini concert” at a high school at the admission price of $2.50 per person.

Living close by in Columbus, Ohio....me and my buddies had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Detroit himself many many many times on a constant Rock-N-Roll loop of sorts like many of The Rock Acts that got their Mojo from The Midwest! I can visually see those "Mini Concerts"! The price was a reminder of just how inexpensive most 'Shows" were back in the day! Salute!

Very cool! We got to see him before Covid hit up in Albany and it was a great show. I was never into him (though Lynn was) and had the impression that he had some sort of tough guy/biker image, but was surprised to see he is not like that at all. He's actually comes across as a goofy, likable guy. The J. Geils Band opened up, which was awesome! I remember Seger's bass player switching basses just about every song, which I thought was odd. They were all Precisions. The tickets were more than $2.50 though. Just for laughs, I priced David Gilmour seats...$893! for the seats we like... which are not close to the stage.

My parents grew up in Farmington and Birmingham, and they told me about seeing Seger at high schools and the Silverbell back in the day. Funny enough, I live just up the road from the former site of the Silverbell now. Growing up in the same area, Seger's been a big part of the soundtrack of my life--I first saw him when I was 14 at Pine Knob, and I saw him do his last show at Pine Knob in 2019. Great to hear Get Out of Denver today!

I left Colorado after 8 years and living all over the front range in 2019. Went back to Missouri and I'm back forth as an Alaskan fishing guide now! Been watching and learning with you for a decade, thank you sir! I never knew of this song and will learn it now, it's got a sweet groove to it and I used to sing Hollywood Nights with this old woman during karaoke at a bar I worked at

Cool stuff Troy! Two weeks in a row with songs with a Detroit connection, last week a Motown classic, and this week Bob Seger. OUTSTANDING!!! Current and former Detroiters everywhere are opening a Vernors or a Faygo Rock & Rye (legendary local pop brands) and enjoying your talent, Troy!!!✋🏻(Pointing to my palm to show where I'm from.)

Hi Troy, good to hear some Seger - great songwriter - and a really great lyricist in particular. Get out of Denver might be simple in terms of note choice but repetitious lines can be really hard. Lifting a weight is not complex but multiple reps is!

Yeah, this song really features some spit shot vocal delivery, doesn't it? One slip would ruin the whole flow. You make a great point about its difficulty.

I remember this song but never played it. Until you said "Give it a try", that is. You're absolutely right that it's harder than it sounds. Much harder. It's like Johnny B. Goode on steroids and an exercise in endurance. You're also right that you can't even think about what finger you're leading with. To paraphrase Maverick, "If you think, you're dead". As always though, you nailed it. Me? Not so much. But I'll keep at it. Hope you and Lynn are doing well.

Ok….. wtf! That is one of the strangest patterns. Sounds great, and not difficult, but for some reason it feels backwards to everything I’ve played till now. I think this may be a new “exercise” song. It also sounds like the song, in the old Mel Brooks movie High Anxiety. Where Dick Van Patten is locked in his car and the stereo keeps getting louder and louder… Thank you Fonzy, you always bring the best dishes, in the KZbin potluck!

It's a pretty standard Mowtown type riff, but the tempo really makes it challenging. I think if it were "backwards", or reversed, it might not be as difficult... in other words, if the second two notes of the riff were reversed and climbing instead of descending. Thanks Tommy and take care!

Thanks Jim! Yeah, definitely a bit of a finger twister. As it was uploading it I checked to see if there were any other covers on KZbin and a video with isolated tracks showed up. I listened to his isolated vocals and they were amazing! You can hear him breathing after each line and it sounds like he just ran a 4 minute mile.

I had completely forgotten about this fun, fast AND frustratingly hard tune to play! 🤣 I remember back in my very early Bass playing days that there was No Way I'd be able to pull this off like Tommy Cogbill does. I actually did better with a felt pick BUTT I felt like I was committing a Sin! 😅 That particular style of the Bass part was like my Hands were on a bike going downhill on the famous San Francisco street named Lombard! Thank You Jim Rosenberger for nagging Troy into finally playing your "suggestion"😂👍 That Elvis Grin/Sneer of yours Troy as you sliced and diced this Bass passage was a delight to see as you played! Cheers To All Who Dance To This Channel! MOO From COW-lumbus, Ohio 👋

I think it might have been a little easier if the main riff was reversed and climbed up, instead of down. I haven't tried it... just a hunch. We made sure to take a ride down Lombard Street when we were on our honeymoon in '91. I don't know what they were thinking. Thanks and take care!

Very nice of you to say. That song has been suggested a few times and I always go back to check it out. It sounds really cool, but it's really long and, I imagine, would take a lot of work to put together. I just don't feel driven enough to invest as much work as it would take into the song.

Funny you say that its harder than you thought. Try playing any cogbill bass line and you will be blown away. People have been playing his mustang sally bass line wrong for decades. Be just makes it all sound easy like jamerson did. But its not. He was a 30 year old jazz guitarist turned bassist and completely destroyed pop music with it

At your level, how is this interesting enough for you to bother with? It's not Bruce Thomas, or McCartney. McCartney, who you're covered, has a thousand more interesting basslines. Please look at more.

If you play bass, you should try it out and see how it goes. While the line may be simple, I found that playing it was a bit of a challenge... for me. As for McCartney (or The Beatles), I was never a big fan. I've got nothing negative to say about him/them, but I just found other things much more interesting.
