If you have many family members who live into their 90s and 100s with relatively few health problems and, especially, if you have female relatives who didn't go into full menopause until their 60s, do you think there might be any familial tendency toward being able to conceive at older ages? (To my knowledge, none of my older relatives has tried to get pregnant in their late 30s or 40s because their families were completed before then.) I am the eldest of my generation, so we don't know if any of my sisters or cousins will be able to have children at later ages. We are all between the ages of 31 and 38 right now, and almost all of us still want to have kids). Interestingly, despite the fact that most of my female relatives have either been diagnosed with endo or have had symptoms that strongly suggest endo, all who have tried to conceive have managed to get pregnant naturally (some after a long time and some very easily). I was diagnosed with both PCOS and endometriosis at 33 and conceived my first child without ART at 35. At 38 seems like the odds would be incredibly against me being able to conceive another, but I wonder if good genetics could help offset some of the other factors a bit? Does endo and PCOS ALWAYS indicate poor egg quality, or is it possible for eggs to remain viable despite exposure to adverse hormonal and/or immune factors?

I have been able to conceive, but I have lost three pregnancies in the last year. One was documented and the other two were not shared with my obgyn because the first took me by surprise before I started fertility treatment and the second just happened over Christmas, weeks ago. I am 41, so I know egg quality is a concern. The documented loss was diagnosed as “chromosomally abnormal”. Everything you said here helps. I can’t tell you how grateful I am. How did you decide that coconut oil is safe for high heat when the sources I'm seeing say its smoke point is 350? On the converse, peanut oil is supposed to have a high smoke point of 450. You are looking for healthy oils first. Peanut oil doesn't fall into that category. Second would be smoke points and stability. Coconut oil is a very stable oil. This is not something I am creating, there is research to show this.

Dr. Mark, I was doing some reading and found that hibiscus can cause miscarriage, yet it's used as an ingredient in many teas. Often fertility Dr.s also say to stay away from caffeine. Raspberry leaf tea is safe before ovulation, but not after, as it can cause uterine contractions. Pineapply may be safe before ovulation but not after for the same reason. What drinks are safe once you may be ovulating? What drinks are not safe? Can you please do a new video on this topic? Thank you!

What about decaf coffee? Is the issue the caffeine or is it the compounds in coffee or is it a bit of both??

Rebecca Shifflet, the caffeine can affect fertility. Decaffeinated doesn't mean it doesn't contain any caffeine. It still contains some caffeine. Tea and chocolate contain some caffeine as well. In general coffee is very beneficial for the immune system, as it contains a wealth of antioxidants. Caffeine is beneficial for asthmatics, just not if you're trying to conceive.
