My grandparents watched the wildlife. Not the TV. They also always said, Prepare for the worse & hope for the best. Always better to have it & not need it that need it & not have it. I have stuck to that philosophy my entire life. Ice storms, floods, tornadoes, whatever, we were prepared enough to get us thru.

We USED TO HAVE a warm 'Indian Summer' with our kids, changing leaves, barking dogs, cinnamon, cloves, corn mazes and pumpkin patches. This second Summer of No Summer I saw a mob of crows flying south already. It's been 50°Fs highs and raining since Labor Day, more typical Seattle WINTER. The garden is already rotting away. _I'm scraping moss from the car trim!_

I was talking to someone located in Canada. It was a business call. I mentioned that it was snowing out. She asked it the flakes were big or small. I said small. She said that small flakes meant a short snow storm. Large flakes meant a long snow fall. I started watching after that. It was pretty much accurate.

In the terrible winter (loss of electricity, the grid, ice, frozen pipes) a few years ago in central Texas, of course we dressed warmly, but at night in addition to the regular winter beddings, we threw on an honest-to-goodness real down opened up kid’s sleeping bag on top. We could not have been cozier. The real down made all the difference. My suggestion is save for a few weeks until you can splurge on a down comforter if you are worried about the cold.

Shannon, slips are sold online. They are meant to wear under dresses/skirts. Search slips, full slips, halfslips. Historically, they were used for warmth, support full skirt, protect outer clothing from soiling. Under clothes were washed more frequently than outer garments. Period costumers have some interesting information about the history.

Alaska here. Off-grid 95% of my adult life (66yrs). Reading everyones comments. Something i rarely hear mentioned is having an aditional equipped shelter even if for short term in case something is wrong with your main one. On the climate issue, solar, ocean temps, etc all contribute to effect the weather. I don't think its extreme at all to include that what we are doing to change the atmosphere changes the atmosphere. Its not political or religious its just math. I went solar and wind power over 40 yrs ago for the simple reason that i don't think its wise to destroy what's keeping us all alive. Not telling others to change, to busy doing that myself. ☮️ Thanks for y'all's comments i learned a lot.

I live in a coastal community in southern New England. We are projected to have above average temperatures, however, that brings the possibility of heavy wet snow. This usually causes downed trees and power outages. It's always advantageous to be ready, as you consistently advise us. In past power outages, people are surprised when the grocery stores have to throw out fridge and freezer items after so many hours/days without power. They don't always have generators to keep things safe until power is restored, and trucks might not be able to deliver immediately after either. People often joke about getting your "blizzard french toast" when there's a storm warning, but there are valid reasons why perishable foods might not be delivered for a length of time. Im 57, grew up in New England, and it just seems like standard practice we were raised with to have what is needed in case there's a storm, but many don't anymore. Or maybe it's my time time in the military 🤷‍♀️ Even after all the events of the past several years, your videos are important to reach those who haven't been paying attention to the need to prepare, even on a temporary scale.

Thank you SO much!! The knowledge you impart is extremely valuable. Literally, a lot of what you share could mean the difference between a life or death scenario! We are in the far Northern area of New York State, in the foothills of the Adironcks. Canada is perhaps 20 minutes away. The winters can be extraordinarily brutal. We have 2 main seasons… winter, and prepping for winter! Occasionally, a mud season gets tossed in. No matter where folks live, we need to prepare for the worst which may happen. Then, when we are able to shine in the best of times, we can appreciate the good times, and have the peace that settles upon us, knowing we did the best that we could!

I think it's coming to a head. I believe Putin is the first of the 4 horseman. "Revelation 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer." Funny how there was a white horse at the olympics, seen by all the world. I believe China is the red horse. Funny how China is known as Red China. " 4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword."..... They can have the biggest army in the world with a simple draft. The bible says there will be a 200 million man army from the east in Revelation 9:16. Who else can do that but China? It also says Revelation 16:12 says, “The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East.” This prophecy not only identifies the judgment but also gives the reason for it: so a great army from the East can cross the Euphrates unimpeded. Funny how the Euphrates River is drying up right now. It is almost gone. These are just my opinions, but they line up to me.

Been a truck driver for thirty years in NJ, I don't worry about the weather much these days. At least while driving in my truck. But I do worry about my kid who has to commute to college and is still new to driving (only a year and some months). By the time we get snow I will be fully healed from fusion back surgery. Where I live, we have never had a power outage in 23 years. But I did prep during the years of the sickness. Most of the items are still boxed and new. We do a (widow) maker tree in our front yard, but it cost 1700.00(plus) to take down is probably my main concern.

I 100% garentee it's gonna be a very snowy year on the Atlantic Cost and in Maine. We have had an extremely dry year. This area gets weather. If not in the summer. In the winter. We never have two years of low snow. So that means were we had low snow last year and a dryer then normal summer. We're going to get hammered this winter. Because we never get two years of dry weather.
@Rotund_Panda_Pants

I live in Maine and August and September seem to have been different than the previous three or four…. It’s much drier, and it feels much more “fall like” as opposed to late summer like. The acorns are dumping like crazy off my oak tree, and the leaves are turning earlier than usual (as of 9/20) however this could be due to the dry weather as of late. The past two winters along the Maine coast have been downright violent. Heavy storms coming from the southeast with strong winds, record tides and flooding rains. This was very true for December and January - late February and March saw ice storms and blizzards. Craziness. Maybe the climate has truly shifted and it’s just normal to be warm and rainy…. Again, I think this winter is going to be cold and snowy…. A shock to the system so to speak.

The only issue I had at that real low temperature is the #2 diesel gelling, get kerosene or #1 diesel ideally.
