I tore my ACL when I was 13! It helps you grow as a person at any age, you learn so much about your body. Sounds cliche but it is so true, you will be better because of this. You can still use your desire to workout and make it a desire to do recovery and sometimes it is even more rewarding. Set little goals. Find the positives in every thing. You will have so much appreciation for the little things after this. Recover hard and I'm excited to be on this journey with you! Surgery day is the day you change from being injured to recovering. Welcome to the ACL club, (you need to get a shirt)

if you can't do something you love, just pour yourself and that energy into a new interest or interests. Start writing new short stories, ideas, etc. Basically just shift sources of self-validation. You've been through worse and you've totally got this. 💙👍

I had knee surgery in college at the end of my third year swim season. Not fun! Ten years later and I still have trouble running. Def take advantage of the week after to get pampered by everyone! Then just find alternative things that you can do well to supplement what you lose in your workout. I do a lot more biking and climbing now. It will all be good!

You've got this Kyle. Exercise, in the form of rehab, will come back pretty quickly for you. It will be tough at first, but better to take care of this now than to let it drag out. I have helped friends that had to have this surgery, and once they got the hang of their new realities, they did fine on their own. Best of Luck, and will be thinking good thoughts for you and your speedy recovery.

Hey Kyle! I have had three knee surgeries two of them being ACL reconstructive surgery and it is definitely tough! After surgery you can definitely continue to do upper body and core workouts, and really listen to your surgeon and what they say about post op care! Don't try to push it to get back in the game quickly!! I made that mistake. Take your time to heal and get better slowly! Lots of ice, elevation and compression! I got through it slowly but surely, and by a lot of praying! I hope your surgery goes well and I wish you the best of luck!!!! God bless!

Kyle, all surgery is scary. I went from springboard diving 3 nights a week and gym 3 nights a week to being bed bound. You will get down, but as long as you have a good support network of friends you will be ok. Remember to keep in contact with people everyday as it'll lift your spirits. You will get through this, binge net flicks, eat well and have a cheat meal 😃. Good luck!

Hey Kyle, I've had this surgery twice, three years apart. I tore it both times playing field hockey. I don't know what the protocols are in the US for after surgery, but all I can say is get it moving and bending asap (gently obviously 💁🏼). And being an introvert myself I don't really like spending a lot of time with other people, but it helped me to avoid getting depressed when I spent time with my friends and family. Ask them to take you out to places, because you'll be stuck at home, rehab or work for ages before you get completely independent again. All the best for the surgery and for your recovery! (PS: just ask your sister for advice and motivation, she helped a lot of other people get through it)

Sorry to hear about you ACL Kyle! that sucks! About 6 years ago I dislocated my knee and tore my ACL while dancing. It honestly sucked so bad! i was getting ready for a competition as well so i totally understand how you feel! But it's only temporary! it'll all heal eventually and you'll be back to your normal self. unfortunately I couldn't get back into dancing but I picked up gymnastics which helped with stretching muscles and also helped me build a good foundation to prevent that from happening again! Make sure you drink lots of water and take joint supplements because it makes a HUGE difference!! Your videos give me life so keep on doing what you're doing! xx

Good Luck with your surgery. I agree with the other fellow that mentioned swimming (though not until the skin closes and it is ok -- don't want an infection in the site). Usually kicking isn't an issue, but pushing off the wall can be restricted. I already know how to swim, so losing the push off wasn't a concern. Also, think of using a backpack. If you need both hands for crutches, you can put stuff in the backpack, walk to where you are going, and then pull the stuff out or sit and do what you need to do. Works less well with food though.

I just celebrated one year post op for the acl. At times you just want to quit, but have that one person pushing you, motivating you.Not gonna lie it's tough and it can be painful, but just do your exercises and have a strong support system and you'll be okay. Take it day by day and soon you'll be back to running. P.s learning how to walk again can be a bit weird haha. Sending lots and lots of love. And I know you you can do it.❤️❤️💪💪

I tore my ACL and it was one of the best experiences of my life because it made me appreciate the sport that I loved (basketball) more and also pushed me to love other things while I recovered (theater and art). Focusing on strengthening your mind and your body during this time! Also make sure you find a great physical therapist because you talk to them pretty much every other day and they kind of become your regular therapist too. Let me know if you have any questions about your surgery! Sending love and prayers your way 💗💗💗 P.S. don't freak out about the nerve block! I thought I was paralyzed when I woke up from surgery

I've had this surgery twice - two legs right?-you'll do fine. I've also broken both legs in several places and I'm still going strong. It just takes time and patience and rehab. Get off the painkillers within 3 days and go to Tylenol. It helps with the pain and is not addictive like the other stuff. It'll be over before you know it, but good luck!

Have a wonderful surgery, I can empathise because literally I just got out of surgery. I have osgood schlatters. It's much similar to an ACL tear, where my patella would have pieces of bone fracture floating around because my quads would constantly pull on my patella. In my opinion, surgery, was the best decision. I think, let's see how my new knee/leg will be and how I can cohabitate . I love you Kyle, I look up to you, you just do not know it

I'll probably be another addition to the many ACL and injury stories, and for me (I tore my ACL, MCL, PCL + meniscus all at the same time playing soccer, and then tore my meniscus again two years later) it was tough in the beginning, not going to lie. It's just such a difference going from hyper activity and going about your day not really thinking about your ability to go to and from places with relative ease. It is an adjustment after knee surgery. Although you may have days of frustration or even doubt, I promise you that every day brings progress. PT also sucks, but like, a good kind of suck haha. When you first go, it will probably hurt when you're trying to get your mobility & flexibility back, it WILL hurt when they bend your knee to break the scar tissue and you will be sore. But that is so necessary, you don't want that in your knee later down the road. But it's all progress, and usually PT's are super amazing, and some are even cute (if you don't find a cutie at the hospital lol). YOU will do amazing, and more than likely look amazing during recovery
