This is one of those rare good adaptations of a TV show because the creator of the show was a consultant for the movie.

The references you didn't get are there because this movie is a remake of a 1960's tv show. The opening bit with the doors ending on an extremely conspicuous phone booth was the opening credits for the show.

The driver of the Opal, that gets smashed into, is the great Bernie Kopell! He was the original , in the original Siegfried, & speaking in the wonderful accent he used in that role! The airplane was labeled, “Yarmy Airlines”. (The original Maxwell Smart, was played by Don Adams, whose real last name was “Yarmy”!) The pilot of the commandeered plane was Leonard Stern, producer of the original series! When I met Barbara Feldon (The original “Agent 99”), I asked her if she was tapped for a cameo, & she told me that she was, but since Don Adams was no longer with us, she opted to not join this flick’s cast. Then, I asked her if, in the scene on the plane, where 99 shows Max a pic of her blonde, previous self, would she have allowed them to use a pic of herself, & she laughed, & said, “Yes!”! Not sure if it was the original, or not, but… The red sports car Max steals, is referencing one of the several sports cars used in the original series. (So is the shoe phone.) The portable cone of silence, from an episode of the original series, can be seen among the items in the adjoining displays! BTW… In the late’80’s, a made for TV reunion flick was done, & while it does have its flaws (Not as many as the theatrically released, “The Nude Bomb”🤦♂️) it’s really a great nod back to the original series (Minus the laugh track.), & features the original Max, 99, Sigfried, Starker, & Hymie! Definitely a fun trip down memory lane for us classic TV fans! It’s called, “Get Smart Again”! Enjoy! 😁😉😃

I really like Get Smart! Chemistry between Anne Hathaway and Steve Carell is so great. Two more great spy comedies: Johnny English (2003) and OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies (2006).

Get Smart was a television series. the references you weren't getting were from the show, which was wildly popular. You should watch an episode or two when you get the chance. Also. Mission Impossible was a huge TV series and you might want to watch a few episodes of that before watching the MI movies.

You should react to the original series tv show. Don Adams as Agent 86 and Barbara Feldon as Agent 99. The TV series lasted for 5 seasons with 138 episodes and it was hilarious!

Kingsman the Secret Service is another great spy comedy, which if you haven't seen, definitely needs to go on your reaction list. Another couple of spy comedies, in one of the comments someone mentioned Richard Grieco but wasn't sure the title, it's If Looks Could Kill; also True Lies and the 80's classic with Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase, Spies Like Us are great choices. Some other comedies to check out, pretty much anything by Mel Brooks, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs and Robin Hood Men in Tights all great choices, if you've never seen Hot Shots, that is another comedy classic, a parody of Top Gun.

I always enjoyed the series, when I was growing up. It's still funny. However, it has a laugh trak, and laugh traks are distracting with this type of show. It was co-written by Mel Brooks. A lot of the references come from this show. Get Smart is a very American spy move. However, for something a little closer to James Bond, you might try Johnny English. For something more serious, you might try Kingsman.

if you like this movie see the original Maxwell Smart in "The Nude Bomb" I also like Spy Hard, and the Woody Allen Casino Royal and the James Bonds and I think Jackie chan did one and some of the WWE guys did ones. I hear good things about Johnny English too. Boris and Natasha: The Movie is good for an obscure comedy. the call backs are to the TV series BTW this movie had one side story that went direct to DVD there was a TV series and a Spin-off series that showed Max and 99 go from relationship to married to having family.

Sorry, but “the Nude Bomb” is really not a great flick. (Best part is the old Universal Studios tour stuff.) The original series is where he needs to go for reference! (“One of Our Olives Is Missing” is a great episode, as Sigfried, Starker & Carol Burnet are terrific in it!) 😁

@@EPShockley Its just hard to find "Original Cast Get Smart" in Movie reaction format If this was "TV Reactions" I would jump in to the middle of the series, the 1st in color seasons.
@EPShockley Жыл бұрын
@@sasamichan The original series was in full color. Only the pilot episode was done in black-and-white. I have all five seasons on DVD, sadly, the fifth season is really lacking. There’s good stuff there, but they changed the style and format of the show, after it went to the different net work and filming production location. It is a shame that the original series is really only known by those of us who were there in the 60s, 70s, 80s, when the series was repeated many times daily on local television. At least in the Los Angeles area, where at one time six episodes were shown throughout the day. Maybe even more in the very early hours? Anyway… I’m just glad this young man saw the flick, and enjoyed it! Hopefully he will get to do the same with the original series. :-)
