Totally agree in regards to crashbars. I have an 03 BMW RS and I’ve tipped it over damaging the bike. My 22 RT, I wouldn’t ride it until I put the crashbars on. Great video s usual Jerry. Thank You

Had my first motorcycle accident 2 months ago. I was sitting at a red light at an intersection and a woman on her phone drove right into me from the side. Without the crash bars my leg would have been crushed. I ended up with a big bruise and a sore back. The bike is being rebuilt better than before but without the crash bars it would have been totaled.

I'd argue that the most important accessory,the first one you should invest in, one that lasts and transfers to every bike you'll ride, is rider training and lessons from Ride Like a Pro

I put a mustache bar with foot pegs on my 2018 Iron 883. It was parked and I was cleaning it, and I didn’t have it in gear in. It rolled in it tipped over, threw me under the floor, but the mustache bar saved my legs and my bike, and I didn’t put it on there for that intention.

I just purchased a 2022 heritage. I somehow missed a long scrape on bottom of frame on right side along with a good size scrape on the mustache crash guard. luckily i did not see any further damage or anything possibly fixed on bike. Crash guards are a must on any bike! Thanks for all the great info you give us all and thanks for all those years of your service as a police officer! Stay safe!

I bought a set of front crash bars for my wife's Shadow off Amazon. I was really impressed with how heavy they are. I honestly think they're thicker walled than those on my Nomad. And those aren't lightweight.

Totally agree, simple and cost effective way to protect yourself and your investment. However, I agree even more with your last point. Practice clutch and throttle control and don’t drop the bike!
@tarynsanmartino8930Ай бұрын
Absolutely best advice Jerry! Save.hundreds if not thousands on one drop. Also, excellent demonstration on friction zone. It's a beautiful thing. I found the slow race to be a good way to practice it and get the feel for your bike's clutch grab. Always wondered the best way to explain that along with the light rear break pressure for stabilization on the very slow speeds and turns. Think you nailed.it. 🙂

I have a 2019 Electra Glide Classic. I dropped it making a (you guessed it) tight U-turn. I had my speed up, head and eyes up and looking where I wanted to go but you can only lean so far before the floorboard scrapes the ground. I panicked, looked down, and went down. The bike slid along a few feet on the left side of the bike. The Motorman isn't exaggerating when he says you'll scrape up the bike even with crash guards. Mine came stock with front and rears but both now have several deep scratches. I also have some pretty good scratches under the derby cover on the bottom of the primary. I got really lucky it didn't get a hole and leak oil everywhere. Plus, the exhaust cover and side of the lower faring was scratched up too. I did purchase the motorcycle drop guards a few weeks ago that Jerry shows in this and other videos. I bought them on their black Friday sale which saved around $100. Using Jerry's code will save you a lot too. I haven't installed them yet, but they are very thick and heavy so they will do the job just fine. I wish I had gotten them sooner. To replace all the parts that I messed up on my bike would cost close to $1K or more. For that price I could have bought several sets of the drop guards. Can't wait for it to warm up so I can go try them out and practice more before I schedule a class next year.
@Prometheus1979Ай бұрын
I watched that video and commented that he needed crash bars. That’s the first thing I bought and replaced on my 23 Roadglide-ST. Both front and back crash bars with Santoro crash bars. Very small price to pay compared to the expensive damage that can be done from a minor drop.

Could you do a video on how the new straight Harley bars with the wheels work when the bike is dropped at slow moving speeds and not just tipped over, like you did for the motorcycle drop guards. I purchased drop guards after seeing how hard that bike was dropped and then watching the videos on the motorcycle drop guard website. I have heard the new straight Harley bars do not work as well in protecting as well as the drop guards do, even at higher speeds. Every video I have found just shows the bike being laid over while parked with those skateboard type wheels. Thanks for the videos!
