The longer I live the more I realize how important and profound forgiveness is
@Qasibr4 жыл бұрын
How do you manage that, Steve? I have a good memory and can remember the not-so-good. Makes it difficult to repeatedly forgive if they keep on doing those things.
@steveb97134 жыл бұрын
Qasim nobody alive today is perfect, “to err is human”, so forgiving yourself is needed to move beyond your mistakes. I think forgiving others requires putting yourself in their shoes. Did they have or believe they had a good reason for their actions? Did they intend harm? If you were in their position could you have acted the same? I think if you’re able to communicate with whoever wronged you it’s important to get their view of the situation to at least understand why things happened as they did. If you have empathy for them they could have empathy for you, hopefully with an apology, and acceptance. However some people do not want to admit they are wrong, or they can’t or won’t change. You then must accept that they are a flawed human being, maybe forgive them for that, but then you must do what is best for you, forgive yourself, and move on

@@Qasibr i think that the reason why we find it hard to forgive is that we think that it is an act that only benefits the party that wronged us. When we forgive, we learn to let go of things and feelings that constrain us. You don't have to trust them again instantly, you just have to forgive and let go. The feeling of freedom after forgiveness feels so good man. Thats why i make it a point to forgive people as much as i can, regardless of whether they asked for it or not.

Thank you, I learnt and confirmed a few things. My takeaway summary: 1. Pick good environments so you dont have to over use your limited will power (good company etc) 2. Pray/meditate to increase your will power (it increases HRV and things not mentioned here) 3. Be kind to yourself and forgive yourself like you would forgive others, with the aim of improving, making the world better.

Reflecting on the past two years, which were surely the most stressful years of my life, i was under the constant pressure of keeping up with time and doing the right things to produce the right results but amidst all this i found myself procrastinating(a lot) and then being hard on myself and then procrastinating all over again, which gradually turned into a vicious cycle I couldn’t get out of…I tried seeking help from youtube but that totally backfired..What killed me the most was that I KNEW what was right all along, but, idont know maybe i realized it too late, or maybe it was just an excuse (that i never meant to deliberately make) or it was just the fear of failing…whatever it was, I never forgave myself..I didn’t give up tho, and I did improve, but I am sure I could have performed so much better if I had my feelings under control… The only thing I’m capable of doing right now is stop constantly criticizing myself all day and instead reflect, evaluate, and correct my mistakes… P.s. sorry for the length of the comment, just poured my heart out at the moment..

I wouldn't really agree that willpower is limited. As a matter of fact, I think it's reinforced throughout the day the more you use it. If I choose to wake up at 5:00a.m instead of 7:00a.m, complete a project I had postponed, eat a salad at lunch, and go to the gym at 4p.m, why would I want to break that cycle at supper,when presented with a simple juicy cheeseburger? I did all those tough tasks throughout the day...resisting a burger shouldn't be that hard. I'd say that accomplishing something that requires strong willpower motivates you to keep on going. Great summary of the book however!

This is exactly what I was thinking. I've observed that personally as well. Will power is like a muscle. ANd it can get buff when used.

You'd need to get into the numbers. If HRV is built through breathing exercise and a certain amount of people in the initial dataset have the will power to train for HRV (ie. meditate or do breathing exercises), then your initial data has the problem of will power predicting your proxy for will power. Self forgiveness is also an act of discipline. It requires being able to stick with it and adopting a mindset of being external to your desire, rather than being in the moment of your temptation. You could probably avoid the problem of shame via just focusing on outcomes versus wallowing in guilt. There are people who exhibit discipline who don't seem big on automatic self forgiveness.

Have you heard of will power potentially being what you make of it? I've read somewhere (probably on Quora but cannot site it at this time) that between a few tests they found that ultimately it was up to whether or not someone believes will power is a limited resource that affected the outcome.
@ProductivityGame8 жыл бұрын
Brandon Lee the science is fairly conclusive on the fact that willpower is limited, but the book does make a comparison to ultra marathon runners. Ultra marathon runners can push themselves beyond what most thought was humanly possible. We can do the same with willpower. It's as if we can find 2nd and 3rd winds of willpower (the strategies in the video aid this effort). However, there is ultimately a limit because willpower is biological: it is controlled by a specific region of the brain, and like all organs it needs fuel and it needs rest to regenerate strength.

may somebody kindly let me know how this kind of sketch lessons, demonstrations are made? Seems creative handwriting but machine generated! what softwares do it?
@jollycolours4 жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure how he did it, but my guess is that he did the sketches / drawings by hand, edited and lay them out as a diagram, and then used the masking tool and adjusted the camera view to create the flow of the animation. I know it's possible to do it with Adobe After Effects. Hope that helps 😊
