I see both sides of this argument. Pioneer is trapped by its legacy. They virtually created the category of DJ media players, and they did it better than anybody else at the time. There's a reason these products were chosen to be installed in clubs. They had good sound, reliable construction, and an easy to understand workflow. All of these things still hold true today. Pioneer knows this, and they charge a premium. The largest majority of pioneers high-end user base do not want the paradigm to be fundamentally shifted. These are guys around my age who have been using cdjs for decades and know their ins and outs intimately. I'm glad they finally have some "real" competition. The new Denon decks are very exciting and they contain some truly forward-thinking ideas. Though this will take time, the engineers at Pioneer cannot rest on their laurels if they wish to remain relevant. It boils down to workflow. Purchase a device with a workflow that makes sense and one you can afford. Focusing on brand recognition and loyalty is a losing proposition. With that said, I'm a Pioneer guy. I cut my teeth on the CDJ-800, and Pioneer media players simply feel "right" to me. With that said, I hope future iterations of the CDJ include Wi-Fi streaming, etc. One quick note about Wi-Fi: do not show up to a large event expecting a stable Wi-Fi or cell connection. Always...ALWAYS bring your music on separate media.

5:57 The SC5000 and SC6000 are not the only decks to have the dual track playback ability on a single player. Almost 20 years ago (holy crap, has it been that long?) Denon had the rack mount DN-D9000, and after that, the ahead of it's time, DN-S5000 which had a 7" motorized platter. Back then the dual layer playback was called "Alpha Track".

Even the older NX2000 decks cost more than these. Yet you get so much more. The only advantage of CDJs is familiarity. I've never been shy about switching to something better though. Most clubs back in the 90s had the Denon dual tray CD players but that didn't stop me from switching to the Pioneer CDJ500s which I thought were a better product. Since then I mostly used Pioneer CDJ decks and they're "standard" in clubs. But that didn't stop me from recognising a far superior product and switching to SC6000Ms. Due to how common CDJs are in clubs I still use them a lot but I'd pick SC6000Ms over them any day. They beat the CDJ3000s on prretty much every important measure.

I might have missed it, but I don't think you mentioned, you can create loops with quantize ON (settings page) and normally they are bang on! If not correcting the Beat Grid is easy and fast anyway. Also you can use these loops as a sort of "break a track in phrases" and then Beat jump, or Loop Jump between them.. even better than using hot cues as these will loop and you can play around with the structure like real old school Djs would do with doubles in the 80's... Bringing your tracks to the Software Engine Prime adds another level as you can short name your hotcues/ Hot loops (and choose colour) and thus create your particular ID method for say chorus, intro, outro, bridge etc... Later export to your media and it will show up on the screen!? Cheers

@@anthonym808 Indeed, as the units are selfcontained, as in, they do things you'd expect only from a computer with a DVS. So they analise the track and set the beat grid, BPM and Key .. that's why you can set the quantize (on the unit). At present linking the SC's to a X1800/1850 only sends over BPM/ Quantize info for the mixer's effects timing (and the colours of the cue buttons). Additionally there is under stuff like the "on air lights" on the players (ring around the platter( jog wheel) when you raise the fader (or open the crossfader) & the track preview will not work if the fader is raised for that player (layer). I would not expect Pioneer to play nicelly with this sort of details, but to be honest setting the effects BPM on the DJMs to AUTO works just fine.

The SC6000 features the larger screen and different button materials/sleeker design like you say. It al has the SATA hard drive bay in the bottom of the unit for large amounts of onboard music storage, and a larger jog wheels. They are largely the same functionally outside of the drive bay.

really fancy trying/buying one of these for switching to digital turntablism/hip hop production. Motorised platter is a must for me. Seems to have everything I want.. nice layout and large screen. Very large and easy to read text/font. Very nice. Good that you compared it side by side with the Sc5000. I'm sure you wont be offended when I say your scratching demo does nothing to inform me of it's turntablist credentials, abilities and cut timing. Nice try though ;) I'm not a fan of clicky dial's being used as a selection button though.. but that's just a personal thing for me. Dial movement and mistakes are easily made with those. Sadly the cost is a bit steep during these trying times of Covid. Maybe I need to sell some Studio gear to afford one. It's on my list but it's more of a luxury than a priority for now. I don't own any Denon equipment but have been keeping an eye on the digital technology since before the SC5000. Nice vid.

Yes, you can deactivate Vinyl Mode. Then its like CDJ mode, just without that super annoying stuttering sound during Pause.

It's the only tool you can use to set perfect on the frame accurate cue points on the fly in a loud and noisy environment. No vinyl mode with back-and-forth movement will ever come close. It's like a back-to-the-stone age-tool in comparison. Real DJ's with knowledge and experience knows that and we lived with that through the whole 90's in to the early 2000's as the only way to set a cue point. From your comment I guess your not experienced or have any knowledge about DJ'ing at all, at least it's what your YT'channel shows, nothing, as usual. If you think you know better, just put a video where YOU show how vinyl mode is better, and it better not be setting a cue point on the one, but rather on a vocal with backgrounds and on a 3/4 note, which is pretty common for vocals. 24 hours from now should be plenty of time to get that video recorded and uploaded and please comment while you do it.

If its too loud, reduce the booth output maybe, dunno. But I barely know any DJ still heavily using the CDJ mode. Anyway, if it is crucial for you, go for the Pioneer.

Like most of us. Look at the Laidback Luke's guest Dannic when he recently visited LL for a guest mix. Green mode (CDJ) the whole set on all players. For any inspiration how to play there's the one and only James Hype, and no, he's not using Denon and damn his transitions are tight.

they did with the sc3900 & dns3700. the dots on technics and alike were for the strobe to read true speed. its not really needed on a media player than aesthetics.

Not true at all bro. All of my Denon gear from waaaaay back still work flawlessly. It's also how they are taken care of. I've seen Pioneer units get sent for repair often in two clubs I've worked at. Only once did we have to send in the Denon for repair after almost 10 years.

My first Denons from 2008 are still work ok. They survived through CD era, performed good as USB players and end up as midi controllers. They were ahead of its time and had distinctive quality.

Good to hear. I have just been informed by friends in the industry about how denon products have been known to shit the bed. One of whom was basically booed out of the club because the denon kept auto looping because it kept disconnecting from the drive. But perhaps it just depends on situation.

DJCasanovaToronto Denon speaks of their innovation so the fact they did not include this feature (despite customers requesting) it is a clear missed opptunity on their part to really make the player standout even more.

define the mode sampler! record a section of audio for a duration of length. This is possible with loops now set to various sizes to the beat. another use for samples is to set hot cues at certain locations of the given track to trigger when required. i dont see what the difference to modern day requirements than to have a separate SAMPLE button. the denon dns5000 was a stand alone with sampler!

Hey Stew. As much as the DNS5000 was ahead of it's time, and I still have mine, it is not a stand alone player. It is a CD player only. No USB or SD. Yes the hotstarts could be used as "samplers" offering start points from different tracks at the touch of a button which was awesome as well as it's integrated sampler function. 😀 It truly was a kick ass machine.
