As a Mavs fan I am so happy about the future that I do not really care that we've lost a few days ago. For D-live to experience finals in his rookie year with impact from himself and not get carried by others is immensely great, both mentally and physically. But we need a few tweaks with Powell, Kleber, or somehow to find more 3's.

@@Truthorfib I think Kidd needs to experiment more during the regular season, I would love to see Hardey get big minutes to develop more confidence. He has the talent and the team needs to find out exactly what they have in him regardless with Kyrie aging. I also look forward to Lively taking on a bigger role also, experiment with him, let him shoot during the year and experiment more as a scorer. I’d like to see the Mavericks go after Naji Marshall from the Pelicans in FA, after all a few additions wouldn’t hurt either. I for sure don’t want to see THJ being this teams 3rd leading scorer again. Really excited for the future of this team, I don’t understand the panic within some people.

@@getlikecoopExperimenting during the regular season was precisely what Kidd got flak for this past season, since some people complained that the Mavs could have won more games and got a higher seed had he not experimented so much. I don’t expect him to stop any time soon though, it’s through his experimenting during regular season that Mavs got all the way to the finals in the playoffs this year. They might fall off due to contracts limiting what they can add to their roster. Luka is going to have a massive contract extension, I'm not sure if it's due next season or the season after. Also, they might not extend Djones jr, which will hurt them. If they find another guy like him, with better above the break 3-point percentage AND cheaper, then they'll be fine. The only cap they can kinda move/get rid of is Tim hardaway, but it's not like they're going to flip him for some superior piece to add to their roster. Their best outcome would be to resign Jones, trade away hardaway, and both PJ and Jones try and improve their above the break 3s over the off-season. The problem is, Celtics exposed Dallas's weakness when they put Tatum on Lively/Gafford. It really did throw a wrench in the Mavs schemes to get those 2 involved. And this a copy cat league, so other teams in the west will try the same formula when facing Dallas, by putting a strong forward on Dallas centers.

Lively is insanely light on his feet for a big man. When you see Kristaps or Rudy, their feet are clunky as hell. That's a huge deal. He will constantly be overlooked due to a certain alien in San Antonio, but he's going to be a big time player for years to come. And he's not so tall that injuries will be more-or-less a certainty. With Porzingus and Wenby, injuries will plague them just because of the length of their limbs.

But his shot actually looks nice with good form. It could really become part of his offensive arsenal.

The future for the Mavs is extremely bright, all the roleplayers have now experienced the finals and as hostile one as they're gonna get with the Celtics home crowd. If the Mavs roleplayers knocked down their wide open shots this series would have been very close, game 2 and 3 were lost by 7 points, game 5 was completely thrown away by everyone bricking OPEN shots while the Mavs defense was playing incredibly well and stopping the Celtics from scoring for large chunks of the game. If Lively improves as a shooter, roleplayers improve as shooters in terms of their nerves and Kyrie fights off whatever weird Celtic demons are haunting him then I can easily see the Mavs beating the Celtics in the following years. With that being said the West is incredibly scary, Wolves look great, OKC looks incredible, Nuggets are always a threat so it'll be a tough battle to the finals either way.

Lively's success is proof that rookies need more direction in the start of their career and can't just "developp" on their own. They got him knowing he would have to serve a certain role for this team to compete, they brought in Tyson Chandler to mentor him, and he delivered and learned so fast. Best thing he did was accept his role and not try to "prove" he could score on his own, that will come later and wasn't what the team needed first.

The only thing left for the Mavs to do is trade for a legit 3 & D Forward. IDC what they have to package to get it. Whether it be THJ, Kleber, Green, etc... doesnt matter, attach the firsts & bring him in. Luka, Kyrie, Exum, & Hardy playing the guard mins. DJJ, Washington, & Legit 3&D playing the forward mins. Lively did fulfill his true potential in college though. I'm tired of hearing this narrative. I watched every Duke game in 2023, and let me tell you, he was the most impactful player on that team. He started a bit slow because of injury and because the team's spacing was awful. But after he got healthy and after Duke figured out the best way to use him on offense, he was a game changer. Yes, he didn't average a ton of points. But he also didn't have Luka (or even Kyrie) throwing him lobs. There's a reason he shot back up draft boards at the end of the year. He was easily the best freshman defender I've ever seen at Duke, and that's saying something when you consider the type of recruits Duke usually gets. I think this narrative only gets perpetuated because NBA people don't watch college basketball. They just look at a box score to judge whether someone played well in college. Lively had a great freshman season, imo. There's more to basketball than scoring.

I watched, and no he didn't, not even close to it. Sure he was impactful, but he wasn't near as impactful as he could've been. We'll just have to disagree on this one, I'd go back and argue that Anthony Davis was as impactful as he could've been in college and he went #1 with good stats. The college game hasn't been suited for a lot of big men to display all of their true skillset and that's okay.

And he was living at the line, and backing guys down to get his own shots. And to reward that he got his minutes cut every damn game it seemed like.
@rome8180
@rome8180 18 күн бұрын
Because Lively is better. Look at their on-off and plus-minus numbers. The Mavs are much better with Lively on the court. Gafford can really only protect the rim whereas Lively can do that AND guard in space. And on offense, Dallas doesn't really need their big backing guys down. There are better options.

Bigs are as important as they've ever been. The model for what they have to do has just changed. I mean, think about who the best players in the league are. A lot of them are bigs. Just because they shoot threes and pass and defend in space in addition to scoring at the rim doesn't mean they're not dominant.

I don't see that coming unless the start making rules changes like getting 2 point foul zone under the basket. Joker is the only players I have seen posting up in the paint with his back to the basket. Everyone is playing facing the basket. The WNBA is the only place I see that style of play.

Agreed, we would need a rule change. Unironically, I love international rules and wish they were the standard for the NBA. The international rules are so good for bigs, I can't wait to see Edey, Wemby, and Gobert all eating space soon. Also unironically, this draft is going to a great big man draft regardless of pundits saying that it's a weak draft overall.

Mavs will likely be a top 1-3 team in the west having a much easier path to the WCF than last year. Off season conditioning and work on 3's may be all they need to win it all next year. Lively is a 5 year project with a high ceiling. PJ Washington a 3 year project that may be a beast. Gafford perhaps not a lot of upside, but is great as is. D Jones may have a bit of scoring upside. The Mavs are fine. Without much more. Just growth and maturity.

Idk...he is too one dimensional if u rly watch the games. He has potential but right now I dont think anything screams star quality. He is in a perfect system for him, so its hard to judge him outside of the system
@dpend
@dpend 18 күн бұрын
I wouldn’t say he’s one dimensional. He’s just playing the role that the coaching staff has asked him to fill for now. If you pay attention to his passing ability it is way above your average center like Gafford who struggles to do much other than finish at the rim. He is also an excellent 3 point shooter but the Mavs haven’t really used him for that - yet. I’d say his ceiling is a lot higher than most 7+ foot rookies, though not perhaps as high as someone like Wemby. IMO he was a top 5 rookie this past season
@Smido83

@@dpend He isnt an excellent 3P shooter. And thats coming from a 20+ years long Mavs fan who thinks Lively is the best thing that happened to the Mavs since trading for Luka. But hitting some 3's during practice or warmups doesnt make you even an average 3P shooter. Let him shoot 75% from the line, instead of 51% in the reg season and 60% in the PO. Then lets talk about regulary shooting 3's in real games. Just look up all the "summer training" videos of Simmons and how many 3's he makes in them. I also saw a shooting drill video of WCS years ago when he was on the Mavs, hitting like 10 3's in a row. Those shooting drills mean nothing in real game situations.

@@dpend Solid opinion. U might be right, It's hard to tell since we have no more footage of his skills besides the actual games that as u pointed follows a gameplan. I wanna see him shooting 3s, as good as he might be if he doesnt shoot he is not a shooter cause he is not rly even a threat.

@@AnsWerNasyour just lazy. You can find the video of him making 14 threes in a row in front of a gym full of scouts in his pre draft. Hes always had a pure shot. And one dimensional? So that makes no sense. He’s good at blocking, rebounding, catching the lob. The short roll pass, his touch around the rim. His bball IQ has been shown all season. Rudy Golbert is one dimensional. And yet he’s a max player. So once again I’d rather have Lively. He’s shut down Wemby and outplayed him, he’s shut down joker, he’s outplayed Chet, Rudy, who else? Yeah he’s a big with mobility that we haven’t seen.

@@iamchaunceman Welp a shootaround says nothing at all, if the staff is not making him shoot more is cause he is a work in progress, right now he has nothing to show for it; and I really am not hating I love the dude his effort is relentless, but as most players say u are as good as ur last game. I agree Rudy is one dimenssional, but of the things u mentioned: (reb, lobs, blocking) thats exactly what Rudy brings to the game. One dimenssional means what he brings to the offense is AT THIS MOMENT just the rolls after picks and lobs + making putbacks and whatnot, he only scores from close range. He has indeed a lot of mobility indeed, but "we haven't seen?" there is plenty of players of the new era with that build. Lively is good af that's clear. Will he be an All NBA player? (which is what I was debating about, never said the dude is bad at all lol) Nop, IMO he wont ever be an all nba, could even say not even all-star but that's harder to predict

Luka ball good enough to get to the finals in 5 months with the current team. Adding weapons to it will only make them better because that one less defender that can key on him and has to stay honest. Especially helps it would be a post player.

Their future is pretty bleak. Irving is on the decline. They're in luxury tax hell and don't have much capital. No first round pick this year. Poor rotational depth. Shitty coaching (terrible defensive performance in 4 of the 5 Finals games). I think this year is a fluke. Lively is a nice player though.
