Thanks for the help. My son was born in the Philippines and I didn’t make it to my wife before my son’s birth. So, the hospital never put my name on to his birth certificate (which is bull). We went to the government for help and they won’t let me sign it either. We got a lawyer recently and they were shocked they won’t let me sign my son’s birth certificate. So headed to the Philippines again in a few months to make things right. Hopefully by next year I’ll have my wife and son living under the same roof as me. Be praying for us that no more lies happen and that the consolar will make my wife and son American’s quickly. Thanks a lot for your prayers those who read this.

I saw that you were offered an interview in January, but did you start looking for a date back in September when she was born? I am asking because my husband and I are in the same situation as you and your wife, but we will have to go to the US very soon after our daughter is born. We are trying to understand if it takes a long time to get an interview appointment. Thank you for any information you can provide!
@fahlingfamily Жыл бұрын
Actually the embassy we went to here in Brazil only schedules appointments one month in advance. I wanted to move my date further out when I emailed the consolate but they only have available dates for the following month (i.e. dates for February starting in January). So I was offered a date for March in February and had to go with that. I don't know if it works the same for all embassy's but at least here in Brazil that's the way they do it.

@@fahlingfamily please do! :) By the way, I reached out to all consulates in Brazil to get an estimate. I will copy here what they answered me in case anyone is interested in the future: - Brasília: average time to process a passport is around 15 business days and for the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) is 01 month. Regarding scheduling an appointment for CRBA services, in Brasilia, we're normally able to accommodate applicants in one week. - São Paulo: Wait-time for a CRBA appointment is 30 days. You will be able to apply for both CRBA and passport on the same day and the documents should be ready in 2 to 3 weeks after approval. - Porto Alegre: We make available appointments for this service every week. After the interview, it usually takes from 20 to 30 days for the passport and CRBA to be delivered by the Consulate. In case of imminent travel, we can issue an emergency passport for the child. This passport is typically issued at the same day, and can be renewed for a full validity passport, if conditions permit, within one year for no additional fee. - Salvador: Appointments at the US Consular Agency in Salvador remain temporarily limited and we cannot yet provide a date for reopening. - Rio: didn’t give an estimate - Fortaleza: You can start about 20 days before the birth, send me an email at that time and I`ll send you the current link. You will fill in all the information and upload the required files. Once you have done that, you will let me know (if you want to come to Fortaleza). After I check that you have enough items to set up an appointment we can usually get you in within 10 days here in Fortaleza. If you go to one of the consulates the timing will depend on the volume they have at the time, which is why there is no estimate. After your appointment from Fortaleza it will take 7-8 weeks to get the passport (if you apply for it). The CRBA itself takes about 3 months to receive.

Hey Tucker, did your wife give birth in a hospital or at home? Do you have any recommendations for either one (in Floripa)? I am considering the same route, In Ingleses (Centro or Norte) in the fall (spring in Bras) as we have 3 other children and like the walkability, affordability, fairly quite character, and proximity to the beach.
@fahlingfamily7 ай бұрын
She gave birth at the Public Hospital in Centro called Carmela Dutra and they were fantastic. She had a natural birth and all of the doctor's who assisted her were great. She was very pleased and I was amazed at how good the public hospital was. We really enjoyed our neighborhood in Ingleses Norte EXCEPT for the summer (Nov-late March) it was unreal how crowded it got. If you are ok with that then you would probably have a great time but I would recommend checking out other areas like Pontas Das Canas (just on the other side of the hill from Ingleses) and Rio Tavares, Campeche, even Centro. I don't regret living there but if we could have found a rental in the other neighborhoods we probably would have ended up there.
