The day after release day I remember hearing that a few acquaintances of mine had gotten Goldeneye. I quickly biked to their house and asked if I could see what all the hype was about. What I witnessed that day was pure gaming gold. After playing hours of 4 player split screen I rushed home and begged my parents for the game. Although I would'nt recieve the game until a few months later during Christmas of that year, I spent everyday after school at various friends houses forming some of the best core memories of my childhood. What I gather from your videos is not just the nostalgia of video games but the community who were luck to have such a great dad who would do anything for their kid/kids. I see more comments about the dads buying them the game or console they reallly wanted although they were very expensive then and even now, but it’s the dads that love seeing their kid smile for eternity. The memories is all but what some of us have now because of a passing of a father or divorced. Not taking anything from the mother but I’m my experience it’s the dads. Selfless hard working dads and the love they have for their kids.

Dude, Goldeneye was probably the first video game I ever saw. I was little and according to my parents, Dad would play the game in front of my cradle and even give me an unplugged controller to "play along" with him. And even now I have a fully boxed copy with my Dad's original copy he handed down to me with my retro collecting. Goldeneye will always hold a special place in my heart filled with split-screen memories of playing with my little brother, and playing through Facility over and over again. Awesome video Tyler, always happy to hear your memories from back in the day! (I was born in '98 so I didn't get to experience the 90s, the 2000s were my 90s lol)

Bro I can't imagine what it would be like to not only lose my father at such a young age, but also have a father who was so invested in my interests and then just not be around anymore. My heart aches for you but no one will ever know your pain and despair besides you. That being said, becuase my father was never really around for my interests and mainly just stuck his nose to his work, I am determined to be half the father to my son as your father was to you. My son is 4 yrs old as of January 1st. He can swing around in spiderman miles morales, collect dog bones in paw patrol and cut down a tree in Minecraft. But when I put that NES controller in his hand and turned on super Mario bros 3, his eyes lit up like I've never seen. He can't comprehend the basics of jumping on top of enemies or dodging but he just loves running around and the bright colors and easy controls. I am excited for my son to make my life as amazing and happy as you made your father's. Your channel is amazing, you and your dads bond is incredible and your lifelong journey with gaming is outstanding. I hope this year does you well, you deserve it all. Keep it up man, love what you do.

Goldeneye is what got me into video games... I really had no idea what games even were until I went to a friend's house after school in THE third grade, he shows me this "James Bond" game and I'm like.. what.. James Bond? Those books on tape by Ian Fleming? No.... this was it, and soon after I had an N64 for Christmas. Finally, on Jan 26 (1998) my Dad came home from visiting his mother in Florida and surprised me with a copy of Goldeneye. Best day of my childhood.

I still love playing golden eye. During this era I lived in the Bronx and took the bus to Manhattan to an art high school during my freshman year. I didn't like the school and the long 9 period day, so I'd often cut my last class and head of to FOA Schwartz and play golden eye. I was amazed at the game and the 64 in general and loved experiencing that as a young kid on my own for the first time. Those were my best memories of that semester, but I had a lot of explaining to do when my parents came in for open school night and learned how many absences I had from that last class.

I remember my friends and I used to have this fun trick we did. We would play proximity mines and I would hide mines in the best places. The best place to put them is on the boxes of proximity mines themselves, because then they blow up when someone tries to take some and it destroys the mines in the process.

What was amazing to me was that it wasn't really a first person shooter in the sense that we knew the genre back then. You're James fucking Bond, you're a secret agent. You have specific tasks within each mission and dying wasn't the only way to fail the mission. It was so much more than a regular fps.

I am a huge Bond fan before video game fan and Goldeneye was the first Bond film that I ever saw. Needless to say my parents bought this for me on launch and I have core memories with me trying to beat this game with my friends and even sisters' friends. I remember being in the basement while my sister was on the computer blasting All Star and Mambo No. 5 trying to get through the jungle and control room. It was the first game that the entire family actually played together with multiplayer until they got sick of me winning easily every time. This game made me take a deep dive into the Bond films.

Goldeneye was a gem. I remember I had a friend like you who had it while no one else did for awhile. I had Doom 64 and Mischeif Makers but for whatever reason 007 escaped my grasps at the start. However, Eric had Goldeneye and lucky enough he lived a few houses down. Needless to say that cartridge ran the gamut between he and all of his friends. I remember we would take it to our other friends place whos parents had a masive 80 inch television at the time hooked up to a sound system and let me tell you, it was like we were playing it on the silver screen itself in our young minds. Shortly after I came home from school one day and my Grandma surprised me with my very own copy. This was like playing it for the first time all over again, because now it was my copy. I finally went through the campaign at my leisure and all was right in the world. Keep up the great videos Tyler, you envoke so many memories from my childhood and I cannot thank you enough.

Dude I love your channel. I feel like I’m reliving my youth through your videos and my own memories. I remember being in 7th grade when Goldeneye released and having my buddies over to play the game. I remember they were arguing over who was going to play the game (run through the first level) and they were fighting over the controller. As soon as the camera started moving around the level and into Bond’s head they all went silent and almost in unison the three of them went “Whooooa” with their mouth agape. I remember laughing at the time because I knew exactly how they felt because just days before I had the same reaction. Goldeneye on N64 will go down as one of my top favorite memories in gaming and with friends. So many hours spend doing deathmatch and goofing around multiplayer levels. Perfect Dark became a hit between my brother and I as well. I remember setting up bots to go against with him on my side as we guarded rooms in the game.

I want to say thank you for providing this glimpse into your childhood, it's so interesting seeing that era through the perspective of your father like this. And that is the spirit that makes these videos so interesting and with this strange feeling of tragedy and yearning. I think he would have loved what you did with the videos!

I remember playing this til dawn on my cousins place, they had one of those big tv sets, it was awesome, we even played tournaments with elimination rounds, because there were so many of us 😅 he lived on a apartment building and basicly every kid on the building went there to play the game.

When this game came out , a lot of my friends were parking their cars by a friend's house that was close to school. And almost every day after school we'd walk home and hang out and play 4 player Golden Eye. The parents were cool and there always be at least 4 to 6 teenagers hanging out for a couple hours after school.

I loved Goldeneye the movie and when the game finally came out, I got it for Christmas 1997 and still have it to this day. An absolute classic. it was the first fps game I ever played and is still one of the best. It gets so difficult later on especially if you're trying to unlock the two secret levels. So difficult in fact that one level is still locked.

Your right I should. I usually try to 100% my games so Goldeneye shouldn't be any different. I just have to keep the rage quitting under control. 😄 Great video by the way. I've seen a few of them and it's nice to watch your videos and remember when these games and consoles were new and exciting.

I put in serious play on it, I hate when people don't give it enough time to appreciate it. Bc it is so good. I can't just beat all the missions 00 agent, but most of them. And at least once for all of them. It's not hard. it's painful to watch people not strafe run or just basic movement. Starfox 64 is like that too. I dominate in that. I forget people legit struggle in it.

I dont remember if I had seen the game in a magazine first, I think I played it at Walmart on a kiosk, which lead to me getting it. I was only like 8 or 9, and got stuck in some spots, but my friends at the time and I played it so much. Years later, I also played it a lot with my nephews and tonight, we played the switch online together for a bit with plans to play more tomorrow.

Bud had a very similar experience including playing with all my buddies. My brother & I were sitting one day playing quarterback club 99 when our dad came in the room and sat Goldeneye on top of the tv in front of us. Both of our eyes were lit & we couldn’t believe it! It’s a moment me n my bro will never forget! So glad to see them honoring it on Xbox. It’s so funny to think about all those games costing $50-$60 a piece back then. Def worth every cent ! Thanks to our old mans!

I remember the first time I played this game very vividly. My buddy brought it over my house on a school night and it was the most amazing experience. I must have purchased it that same week and I was hooked. I played that game daily for probably a year. Amazing game and a moment in time for sure.

Great Video, Tyler! This video game was played big time on my street from me, my older brother, and friends. Multiplayer on this game was only out done later by Halo 1 and 2 for me. But split screen FPS in my eyes all really started here (console wise). Awesome close up pics of my limited edition 2 color Goldeneye cartridge. lol

I was there baby!!! My friends and I played it all the time and I remember going to one of those "SURGE" soda conventions where there was bounce houses, inflatable boxing, trampolines with velcro suits, virtual surfing, and there was a tiny room with an n64 with goldeneye playing on a large projector on a wall and guess where the 3 hundred kids ended up for the majority of that convention? You guessed it, and my friends and I were taking everyone on!!!

This was the game that made me have to upgrade to a Nintendo 64 from my SNES. Countless weekends spent playing multiplayer in the late 90s into the early 2000s- even after next gen systems had come out. It probably wasn’t until Halo that GoldenEye was bested.

Goldeneye 007 is still one of my favorite n64 games. My buddies and I played countless hours on multi-playr.This game brings back sooo much nostalgia. My buddy had a trappleline we would always jump on it .When we ran out of energy, We would bring the old school T.V. outside and play Goldeneye 007 for hours .

I rocked the yellow 64 controller too! I was the only one in my family and friends group that had the yellow one (even they were easily accessible). But yeah, Goldeneye was THE game as a 90’s kid and I can echo everything that you said in your video. Countless hours lost with that game and it is still a top 5 all time game for me.

I was 7 when it came out. I remember going to this kid's birthday and playing the multiplayer with a group of other kids. I instantly fell in love with the game. I then started renting it at blockbuster all the time and loving the campaign so much that I even unlocked all the cheats. I also remember that me and my best friend used to play on the school yard pretending to be Bond and Travelyan, cause we both loved the game so much. A few years later my dad bought Perfect Dark as a christmas gift and it became my favorite game of all time. Till this day I play both goldeneye and perfect dark from time to time, as no other FPS ever captured the same magic those games had.
