Getting into a Utility Barrel Lock. Electric or Gas Meter

Mine was the style with the female hole, I screwed around with it for way to long and I finally drilled the hole out and removed the spring. With the spring out of the way it came apart in 2 seconds. Before you do anything else drill the end out and get rid of the spring, it will save you a lot of time and aggravation. Thanks for the video.

My initial inquiry was to find a discreet manner in which to remove and then replace the barrel lock without damage. The lock that I have is not like the one in this video but it was informative nonetheless.

Also the utility company fines people from removing this and its a250 to 300 plus an electrical inspection. They make it difficult believe me

@stevenavo4062 nope never got in trouble they still charged me a 100 something dollar reconnect fee even though I turned it on myself. They will come and turn it back off though within a week or 2 so I recommend paying it within that amount of time. Everytime you cut it off they'll put a harder and harder lock to cut off

Keep a Milwaukee cordless Grinder on truck. End of discussion. 30-60sec wear eye protection and gloves.

We have found that a grinder does a great job cutting away the 1st 25%. Then use a oscillating cutting tool w/ metal blade to finish it off. Never a scratch to the meter or meter can.
