Getting into G.I. JOE Classified was a Mistake (Not really, Here's why)

I grew up with the original American Hero line in 82. It was my favorite toy line. By 1989 I had 100 or so figures and numerous vehicles. Then enter a step-father who felt that because I turned 14 I wasn't allowed toys. So he threw them all away when I was at school. I buried that pain for decades. Then I was at Target to buy a toy for my Daughter and saw the Classified line. I wasn't sure I wanted them yet. However, it had awoken my buried pain. I decided I wanted all my missing Joe's in the form of Classified but found myself getting everything. I missed out on the HISS, but that's about it.

Sorry that's what happened with your childhood collection man, but I'm glad you've rediscovered some joy in the new incarnation of the line!

I bought my first Joe on December 13 of last year and now have 47 figures and picked up my first vehicle, The Vamp last month so 48 figures and one vehicle, and I am hooked. I love how these look on the shelf and minus some minor complaints I have greatly enjoyed each figure. The animal accessories are amazing and some of the Retro line are brilliant, looking at you Recondo, Duke, Scarlet and Cobra Commander. The 80's GI Joe was an obsession of mine and the updated look is so well done on most of them, great combo of iconic looks and new modern touches. Retro Scarlet and Cobra Commander are my favorite retro figures, with the dreadnoks and agent helix being my favorite of the classified line, but really could say all of them are tied for the top 10 spots, such a great line.

I knew nothing about Classified when I first saw in in the latter half of 2023. I loved the look on the new Firefly and Stalker was dirt cheap. I bought them both and set them to either side of my TV. That was honestly all intended to do. Then I saw Crimson Guards and the memories flooded back. I have army built CGs since vintage days, through 25th anniversary and now into Classified. Tomax/Xamot were then necessary, and some Cobra troops, Destro, Baroness, and the Joes starting trickling in... now vehicles, and that Rattler took my money because Wild Weasel. Im upwards of around 100 figures now, all on display across 3 shelving units. Welcome to the Classified club, I guess. PS: collecting Classified as a Canadian is tougher than those in the US. Best of luck building your collection. It's enjoyable.

I really like the retro Scarlett as well, but had to swap out her head for the Snake Eyes movie version. Every time I looked at her, all I could hear was Judy Greer screaming "You aren't my supervisor!"

I have no attachment to gi joe but I do like the army inspired characters. That fire fly was my first one and absolutely loved everything, I have about 14 now and will say they retro Duke and scarlet are some of the best figures for 25 bucks

I started collecting the classified line just over a year ago and I first told my self I also have no interest in completing the collection of the line as I’ve passed on several of the figures I now have 30 of the figures.while I think he’s cool I have yet to decide on getting the techno-viper,I thought the same of Recondo,while a good looking figure I’ve seen him warming the shelves so decided to take him home without regret .But I’m excited to add Doc, Alpine,and Torch to my shelf-worthy figures.Just don’t get me started on crowd funded Haslab’s ,and limited release figures.

Have been loving this line! As a kid in the 80s, I watched the cartoon on Saturday mornings and read the comics. I wanted every toy that came out but mostly lived vicarously through my neighborhood friends who had all the 3 and 3/4 figures and vehicles. By the late 80s, I was able to start buying more toys into the the mid 90s. BY the 90s though GIJOE was getting less reality ajacent and more Sci-Fi-ish. I stayed a fan all the way through though, even into the POC era which was my favorite modern 4" line of Joe toys. Unfortunately, I ended up selling my 3 3/4 / 4" collection off. Also Hasbro just wasn't making any Joe content or toys for years after the Retaliation movie didn't do so well. When Classified was announced in the 1/12 scale, I and many other life-long Joe fans rejoiced! The first wave was a little weird with the campy gold armor and colorful nerf weapons and fan let Hasbro know that it was not what we wanted after waiting for new toys after all those years of hiedous. They course correted and reissues the firat wave of Joes in better more tactical color ways and I have to be honest, I loved the first Target Exclusive Cobra Island wave, and pretty much everything they have done since, with the exception of two figures. The V1 version of Falcon whose face looks like Edward G. Robinson and that Cover Girl like you mentioned that is in the same wave as Falcon. (The V2 Night Force Falcon coming soon in the Walmart Exculsive 2-Pack, definitely fixes his mug) Otherwise, I have no complaints after 4 years of amazing figures and vehicles that honors the vintage tiys and designs and also elevates them. I have been all in on this line and have only missed one figure so far which is the wave 2 light blue variant Cobra Commander with gold armor.

I heard they were going to produce the Water Moccasin , but Copperhead kept hurting himsrlf with his machete when he tried to sit in the cockpit, so it was postponed. 😂 I really hope they release the WM, its by far one of my favorite from childhood.

I've had a whirlwind romance with Hasbro in the past 15 months when I started collecting Classified. 97 figures later with 3 currently on pre-order and I think I'm nearing the end. I collected the "vintage" line back in the early 80's when they launched so I was out by the time they got into the weird shit which is fast approaching the Classified line. Those aren't my Joes and stupidly, we STILL don't have all of the first 13 figures from the 80's released in the Classified line... 4 years in! Hasbro is milking it for all it's worth to string us along while they shuffle out repaints and weird made-up characters comprised of bits and bobs from other figs. I wish I could say that soon I'll be free but I started collecting MCU Marvel Legends in February and I'm currently at well over 100 figures already. I also collect X-Men '97... send help! 🤪

@@salvation7362 Oh I hear that dilemma! So many toys not enough coins... Hasbro seems to be just throwing darts at a dartboard for their Classified releases. How the OG 13 in updated yet still retro aesthetic wasn't top priority is beyond me. Plus, why the hell was Ol' Pimp Daddy released so early in the line lmao. There is cool stuff in there, but I sure am glad I'm not a Classified completist.. 😭

For me.....this has been a very difficult line to love collecting. First of all, I'm not a fan of 6in figures due to the amount of space they require. This is for sure the case with Vehicles and Playsets. They just eat up so much real-estate in a collection and for someone like me that collects Marvel Legends and some NECA stuff.....it becomes a problem. I also don't like the way Hasblo has made certain figures "exclusives" that end up only being obtained for 3x the retail price on the secondary market. While I get doing a rare figure in that manner for hard core collectors, I don't understand doing it for a figure that most collectors really want. For example Serpentor, most of your collectors are going to want that figure but instead of making it available in the numbers that they should have, the company made it a Pulse Exclusive. Save that BS for a figure like Cobra Mortal. I've really disliked all the package changes too. Here is a line that if you want to collect and display MIB, you have boxes with windows....boxes without windows.....some figures on cards....some figures in bigger boxes.....it's a nightmare. Also have not liked some of the designs.....while I HATED the initial Snow Viper with the silly Wolf skin.....I love the carded "retro" version. I really dislike how they take what SHOULD be simple releases and then make them "deluxe" by adding a few accessories. Dr. Mindbender could and should have been a regular release. So should the upcoming Road Pig, who never came with a pit bull dog sidekick. And I waited for Jinx for so long only to get some weird sleeveless tatted up version that I now cannot display next to my original....they should have put some sleeved arms in there as well. And the price of the vehicles is just ridiculous, Hiss, Rattlor, Dragonfly all just too expensive and too huge for me. I enjoyed collecting the 25th Anniversary line back in the day.....but this has been a very unpleasant ride thus far, the bright spot being that they have pretty much come to the end for what I myself would want, other than a few figures I should be wrapping it up soon.

Sold my collection recently. Decided that if I dont actually play with my figures, then I don't need them. It was probably an addiction, to be honest. Could be for many collectors, honestly. So I kept the few Joytoy Warhmmer 40k figures I have. Bought Horus Lupercal. Now, I set aside time to physically play with my toys like I did when I was little. Actually, play a larger version of the tabletop game with the action figures. People with large collections should really think about what is actually happening with their figures and their lives. Say you own a collection of 1000 figures. There isn't enough actual time on earth for any human being to truly spend quality time with their figures. You could spend 1 minute truly handling, admiring, and playing with each figure in that collection and still never be able to truly enjoy that figure given how we as humans need to exist on the planet. I truly believe toy/action figure collectors should set aside time to actually play with their figures and not merely leave them on display. Play with your toys/figures, brothers. We are only here once.

To each their own. It's merely my love of action figures and care for my fellow collectors that I share my experience. Just want to make sure we all get as much joy and fun out of these awesome toys as we can brother. And if that comes in their own unique way, in whatever way, that's fine too. Just wanted to share a potential possibility and maybe a chance for some people to gain a different perspective on their collections. Much love and respect!

Besides Firefly, Cobra Commander, and Scarlet, you haven’t gotten the popular ones yet? Snake-eyes, Storm Shadow, Spirit… those usually have a lot of accessories/weapons.

Resolute was actually the first time I ever cared about them and considered adding them to the collection tbh. But Spirit is definitely on the acquisition list. I just haven't come across one yet that was a good price.

Ok I was 8 when the real American hero line came out so star wars and gi joe were my childhood so when the classified line was announced....well...I was all in....no I don't have pimp daddy Destro....so maybe not all in and being Canadian the Haslabs are out of the question as importing them means a landed cost of around $700 and no none of them thus far are worth that....although the rattler is tempting me .....Copperhead is in my top three also and my retro snow serpent arrived today and I'm giddy about Beachhead arriving any day now....he's my fav this line is nostalgia crack at its worst and I'm loving it and if they keep setting up banger after banger like they've been doing I'd say my second childhood is looking great now bring on that Nemesis Imortal.....enforcer.....thing....guy.....whatever I want it.......great video .......welcome to the rabbit hole

Total Joe fan and have been collecting for years, Dreadnoks 4 life! (Cold Slither you'll be joining us soon!). Hasbro does try to get away with a lot of cash grabs. A lot of hasbro GI Joe paths are completely ignorant. Two terrible 2 fisted cash grab live action movies then they gave the masterpiece of SnakeEyes origins 😢. The gummy weapons do blow!. Look out for classified Major Bludd, one of best classifieds out there. Yo Freaking Joe!

While shopping on Amazon for Warhammer... probably 3 years ago? Don't know but it was when Zarana was released and Covergirl was on preorder and Amazon said to me... would you like to buy this pink haired doll with chainsaw? And I was... oooo... maybe. So after a month of being non stopped recommended this doll I bought her for $9 and two days later she seemed pretty awesome and all my doubts about a 6 inch Joe line vanished. I expected this line to be completely retro and was so happy the sci fi nerf line failed because the first wave and movie wave looked like complete garbage, and they are going back into that sci-fi updated look. And the retros have trash paint apps and none of them come with authentic original load outs. I also don't appreciate the vastly growing number of nasty tattoos. If the original didn't have it don't put any. They need a new Classified Blonde OG Covergirl like the new Falcon.

@@Hurricanelive I could write a comically long essay on what mistakes this line is plagued with... Like many other lines of Hasbro's, many decisions are so bizarre - yet others are reasonably smart. Gotta say, I'm with you 100% on that cartoon based Covergirl, especially if she has the Wolverine for something to do. I also wouldn't mind a red hair piece accessory or something for the option of it looking more like the vintage version or comic art.

@@lunarmodule6419 Definitely, that ab crunch joint is so outdated now. Not sure why Hasbro even considers using it these days. ToyBiz used to use it back in the 90s and early 2000s, but I'd say the collecting landscape has largely moved on to that far superior diaphragm joint.
