With summer on the horizon, and a lot of weeks away for me, I thought I would get my bookshelves summer ready by #SortingTheShelves and chatting to you all along the way. I would love to hear how you sort your shelves/tbr in the comments below. Also what do you think of unhaul videos? #BookTube #BookshelfTour

I love an unhaul. They inspire me to sort myself out, but also sometimes the reasons someone doesn't like something are the things I love in books. So I have read things that have been in unhauls and loved them. Also if I've disliked something and someone else also disliked it I feel like I can trust their taste more for things they actually like, and I feel less alone in my reading taste.

I think discussing what you didn’t like in a book and starting a chat around that is great. I’m not so keen when it’s just unhauled for the sake of getting rid without reason or just to bitch about a book or ten. Lol.

I can't believe how entertaining it is watching someone reorganise their shelves. Since I started to Kindle my shelves are mainly just dusted and admired. I do love DT books but the way we live (back and forth, here and there) the Kindle does work well for me. I know Amazon isn't your favourite organisation but I have to admit to loving my Kindle and I would never have become a novelist without them so 'Speak as you find' as my old mother in law used to say. I absolutely love that pink vase - yes the rudy nudy one is nice but the pink one reminds me of a dish my gran used to have which I wish I'd been given when she died and I wasn't !! You didn't need to know that!

Person first n that person loves books and has millions on shelves that need to be put into order and perhaps this task was just what I needed right now ❤️

Love these sorting the shelves videos. I think I am finally starting to understand the methodology! And of course I adore the black and white asides. Alas, no TBR shelves, just TBR piles on the floor, the window sill and the mantelpiece in the bedroom and on the bureau in the guest bedroom. Some vague rationale as to which books go in which piles. I LOVE what you said about the TBR books being part of your future reading journey. That is exactly how I feel about mine!

Hahahaha. You understand the madness of Simon shelving. Hahaha. 😉 Sounds like you’ve TBR stacks which are delightful. Unless you stub your toe on them or knock them over which I used to. Ha. I sometimes feel like TBR’s are treated as an imminent challenge which makes them feel like a race rather than a long reward ahead.

Personally I adore the unhaul videos. Totally jealous when there is a long delay between your unhaul video and the release date. 🤣 However I like to make a list of books that intrigue me from the videos and remember to pick them up later.

Only two minutes in Simon and some of my favourite black and white edits already, brilliant! I need to do this for my shelves because they're just getting unwieldy and mixed up. It's quite good if you want serendipity to choose your next book, not so much when you're looking for your next book club book and you know it's around somewhere.

Hahaha. I like the idea of a serendipity pick. Oh no I can see a Savidge Serendipity Season coming. Hahaha. Alas it won’t be this summer as with 16 (it got extended) weeks of travel ahead it will have to be planned reading alas.

Watching you flash ‘everyone in this room will someday be dead’ repeatedly in front of the camera has made me want to reread it - it was one of my favourite books of last year! My TBR shelves are overflowing at the moment so I’m due a big sort out… Great video, as always. 👍

I did start a series of videos putting books I had read on my shelves in the office/study. However I stopped about halfway (when we got burgled and all the footage was stolen as it was on my laptop) but that was also five years ago. But maybe it’s time… after I am back from being away for three months.

I’m in a tiny room in a shared flat and most of the free space is now taken up by piles of books, vaguely organized by size/colour TBR/read. I’m trying (failing) to cut down on how many books I own because eventually I’ll have to move quite far….

My books are split first into: upstairs = read and keeping; downstairs = TBR. I've been told that I have more books in my one-room TBR than I'll manage in a lifetime but I do like a challenge! Then they're split into fiction and non-fiction on different sides of the room. I have split them in previous years by genre or colour but that was way too much faff. Then, finally, they're meant to be shelved in order of author surname but that's the bit that's gone by the by since I've been bulk buying from my local charity shops and just piling them everywere. So, that's the next challenge, re-sort by author and then see what I've got.

I rarely unhaul, I'd rather expand my shelves. 😅 My main shelves are sorted by colour, otherwise it just looks too chaotic for me. And some specific editions collections I display together on a dedicated shelf. And this year I'm trying one dedicated shelf for the books I want to give priority in my reading.

@@SavidgeReads I can talk about one bookcase which I am filling up slowly but surely with all the books I foolishly gave away to local libraries (as I could never throw away books) because I did not take them with me in my many house moves over the past twenty years. Silly as on second thoughts I should have put them into storage maybe? I live abroad so I have to get them from second hand online book shops mainly in the UK as I try to track down the same edition.

Oooh there’s lots of differences. They may have different covers. They won’t be hardbacks unless it’s a really big marketing campaign for a book. They might have some final spelling errors. They might even change a bit. They’re generally sent out six months or more before the finished book comes out.
