Hey Muchelle! Just wanted to let you know that as little as 2% of the iron in spinach is actually absorbed by the body due to its low bioavailability and high oxalic acid content. That's why I tend to go to kale, collards, and legumes for iron. Lentils are suuuper high in iron. Commenting because i've been anemic before

I used to be iron deficient too. What helps me to sneak a little extra iron to my diet is a jar of seeds - just mix in roasted sesame, pumpkin seeds, chia also works, and just sprinkle all over whatever you eat - it becomes a no-brainer and it's tasty ;) and of course, amazing video 💓

Hi Michelle, I love your videos, especially the life admin ones, they give me a motivational kick in the butt to work on my own life admin tasks lol. I was just wondering, what are your tips on getting through life admin stuff when you work an 8 hour job on the weekdays, then manage your side hustle/have class after work, and then are just too brain dead to do anything? And weekends are for errands, groceries, cooking, social engagements, getting ready for the week ahead...I know it's a time management thing but I would love to know your thoughts on it.

I recently got my wisdom teeth out with braces on and there was no problems! My oral surgeon said there would be no issues and there definitely wasn’t post-op. It was actually good to get the wisdom teeth out before my braces were finished doing their thang because then the surrounding teeth could adjust. Good luck!!!

This is half a year ago but 16 is REALLY low. If you're still dealing with low iron and b12, get checked for celiac, I had those issues for years and suffered for soooo long and it was celiac, which I didnt expect because i didnt experience getting sick. Also when it's that low I'm surprised you arent given iron infusion through IV or b12 shots?! I was given IV any time it dipped below 50 which was monthly. I hope you're feeling better. I had to deal with this for years and years so if you have questions I'm an open book. I'm also vegan but my issues persisted and began before I went vegan, I guarantee it's not your diet. Now I'm fine and vegan (and obviously not eating gluten) and have no issues.

Hey, to absorb plant iron you need to have vitamin c with your meals. I started drinking like 60ml of orange juice with every meal, or i eat oranges when theyre in season. I got this advice from my doctor and it's made a world of difference for me :) Also, you can get an iron fact sheet on the governments health website. My doctor gave me one when I was iron deficient.

Hi Michelle, I'm a fellow vegan and I had a problem with iron, too. The thing that helped me immensely was the tissue salt (if you have never heard of it before do a quick online search, as i don't know how to best get them in your country) ferrum phosphoricum. It's an iron salt and is in this form much easier to take in by your digestive system. You said that you are already taking daily supplements, so I guess the absorption is the actual problem. Since I started taking them I didn't need to take any other iron supplements and I don't have to the them as frequently. Good luck with your search for what works for you :)

It's so much fun checking off things from your to-do list. Especially important things. I've been a semi-vegetarian (I do eat chicken, haddock & shrimp) since 1984 (when I was 14) & I don't have real bad wrinkles. People think I'm a lot younger than I am & sometimes (this is really embarrassing, but I still get asked for my id). I don't have osteoporosis yet either. I actually had a test because I do have fibro & they said it's common when you have fibro & my bones crack a lot.

I've been vegetarian/pescatarian for about 7 years and have only felt the need to get my blood tested a few times because of low energy and sometimes dizziness, which is a tell tale sign of low iron of course, so i take liquid iron supplements everyday with some orange juice and one of my saviors has been broccoli! It's high in iron and you can usually have it with every meal and in my opinion tastes great however you prepare it. It helped me to also mix up my greens a lot, so instead of packing in a huge dark green salad everyday (kale, spinach and swiss chard are also iron rich but can get boring quickly) you can maybe make that into a green smoothie, roast them, saute them or even swap that for a bowl of broccoli and hemp seeds every now and then. Snacking on nuts in between meals will definitely help your levels rise also! P.S Love the vibe of your channel I've been a silent subscriber for a while now but you inspire me to get my shit together a lot of the time 😂😂 much love❤❤

new sub - love your channel already! I feel you on the low iron and I hate the suggestion of consuming red meats as the solution. never been a fan of red meat.. blergh. anyway, ive had an iron infusion and i honestly feel like i'll need one again, but the docs often suggest take two iron tablets a day.. but the infusion helped briefly and gives the bump i need, whether that's something you may consider, too? depending on your docs verdict. ive read that capsicums are better than orange juice, but hey, the more vit c you can have to help absorb iron the better. just need to be mindful of any foods / pacing out certain intakes that it isnt blocking your bodies absortion for what you need to take in.. i'd read that spinach can block some of the iron intake, but at least there other alternatives that will hopefully help.

I recommend Floradix, a liquid "supplement", which has a vegan version and has worked really well to get my iron up consistently since my test results were about the same as yours. My doctor is happy with it and definitely didn't recommend stopping being vegan!
@klarapopilkova57912 жыл бұрын
Okay so I know that this comment and video are two years old but…. Exactly! I felt so weird that her doctor recommended her to stop being vegetarian because of like osteoporosis and such like what? Dairy can literally like cause it, it doesn’t even have that much calcium or anything compared to plant based sources. So yea, I found that just really weird, he could just tell her what plant sources (and there are plenty) she should eat more and to add vitamin C to help the absorption of the iron. Or recommend another supplement, as you did.

I'm a British Medical student, not sure how they diagnose iron deficiency anaemia where you are, but here we use the WHO definition: which is less than 120g/L in non-pregnant women- and 16 sounds shockingly low! Did your doctor offer Ferrous Sulphate tablets to you- the kind you take three times a day? I would definitely encourage you to look into this further, I am very surprised you aren't already experiencing symptoms like reduced exercise tolerance and breathlessness. Hope you find something that works for you- maybe contact a dietician? x

Hi Michelle, I'm a dietician and there are foods that help you absorb more iron and there are foods that inhibit it. Enhancers are foods rich in vitamin C (and meat, poultry and fish..), inhibitors are foods containing phytate (found in foods like whole grains, cereals, soy, nuts and legumes), calcium rich foods, coffee and tea. So if you take your iron supplement, take it for example with a glass of orange jus or a mandarin/orange (vitamin C)

I naturally can't accept iron, so I was in really bad condition. The greens helps absorbing it so combo greens and beetroot probably? But the biggest change in my life was when I started to take B injections (yeah I had problem with that too) and then surprisingly my iron level started to be ok, I stopped to be pale, my hands/feets/nose stopped to be cold, I am less ill, less tired, my life is sooo better. I had level about 6 to 16 before the B vitamins. I am not 100% vegetarian (I still eat meat sometimes) but still I have problems with iron since I was born. The main reason is that I can't accept it and the second is that I have really heavy menstruation, so that happens. It is as it is.

to better absorb iron from a vegetable source you need to pair it with vitamin c, just squeeze some lemon juice in your water when you drink during your meals and you're done! also cows milk has been shown to actually cause ostheoporosis, maybe you are low in calcium though (only reason why people think we need to drink cow's milk but it has so many other negative stuff in it.. for example 35 hormones of which 11 increase cancer growth!) and for that look up vegetable source of it and/or buy fortified plant based milks (like calcium fortified coconut milk) and have two doses of calcium rich food per day. maybe try to look at pickuplimes nutrition videos here on youtube :) hope to have helped

I’m overdue for a day like this... on the topic of iron, acupuncture and/or Chinese herbs can be quite helpful. It’s a myth the vegetarians don’t get enough iron. There are plenty of veggie options. But it’s often the case that there’s an internal imbalance contributing to low iron.
