I think the term you were referring to about using action to create motivation is called *active inspiration.* I remember reading it in one James Clear's articles. "Motivation is often the result of action, not the cause of it. Getting started, even in very small ways, is a form of *active inspiration* that naturally produces momentum."

I like that you said about setting an alarm for 10 minutes and start making something. I think that is the key because you start doing something easy and when you notice that you have achieved that you feel better and then you can make more things... Sometimes the more difficult part is starting :-)

This video came right in time for me. I bought a house and am closing tomorrow and have been filled with stupid amounts of anxiety. I've found my coping mechanism is avoidance, so I have not done anything to prepare (which I know would make me feel way better, I just can't motivate myself to do it.) Today I am packing. Tomorrow I am moving. I got this. Thank you for the helpful video.

I had this video in my 'Watch later' list for ages, and now I finally got to it, and it seems the perfect time. Thank you for these caring tips. I am actually a bingo of all three things you named (I hate my job, feel lonely and hate my living situation), but I was really very annoyed of myself for not finding motivation to go jogging lately. I think I will start with journaling (if I can find any sheet of paper which is questionable due to this living situation I hate 🤨). Really, thank you for the insight.

Overwhelmed is how I feel when it comes to trying to do youtube because there is so much that I don't know how to do yet. I decided to step back for a month because I had two other large commitments this month. May is a quiet month so shouldn't get the overwhelmed feeling from trying to do to much in a short amount of time. Thanks for this motivation video.

I’ve been feeling unmotivated this whole week. Then I realized that probably I’m simply tired: in the past two weeks I finished and submitted my PhD thesis, travelled to another country to gave two talks and had a job interview and got the job. This week my plan was to submit a paper to a conference and do the first draft of my presentation for my final defense. But I just can’t do the latter so I gave up and simply go home earlier and sleep longer 🎈

I was in the exact same boat 1 month ago. Finished my masters thesis, flew to a different country, started a new job, did apartment hunting and moved into a new place by myself... All in the span of 1.5 weeks. I was so tired and refused to do anything more than the bare minimum for 2 weeks after. But I think it's important to recognize that and be gentle with yourself. Also it's fine to just be still for a minute and feel proud of what you achieved. 😊

I agree with Guilia. I got food poisoning this week, but it made me realize that I was exhausted and needed to step back. To examine what is really important and quit trying to do so much in one day. Make room for life to happen when making plans. It really seems to help tame your inner rebel.

But this video definitely had some really helpful tips, so thank you!

Hey all-- don't forget that these symptoms can be related to actual depression and might be helped along by low doses of medication. It's not all on you, it's not your fault. No shame! Sometimes these tips work better if your chemicals are at closer to normal levels.

Eh, I don’t have depression. Another hack I like to do when I’m not motivated is coupling something I don’t want to do with something I like doing. For example cleaning my room while playing a podcast. Or, going to the library/café when I don’t feel like studying. What also works for me is just taking a break and going out someplace to take my mind off things.

Confession: I hate/loathe/abhor making any plans or lists for myself ever. I always have. I do have ADHD so I relate 100% to your rebel portion of this video. I think perhaps the reason I hate making lists is that in my life, it seems like any time I make plans, it seems to trigger a landslide of chaos that just happens and thus takes me totally off plan - suddenly I'm just off-roading though my days, then weeks, etc. It's just. Ugh. My research for answers has led me to the realization that lists and planning and structure -- but not rigidity -- have to happen or your life doesn't work out how you want. (like at all)
