My mom used to make Shepherds Pie from the leftover lamb from Easter dinner. She'd add onions, garlic, peas & carrots to it. I'm not a fan of creamed corn. Yay, I love piglets and you raise them right. They are always happy and you harvest them with kindness & dignity. We need a "where's Moose" t-shirt, I haven't seen him lately. Blessings to all.

I make shepherds pie once every fortnight. Living by myself it can last me for six meals. Try adding one or two big chopped onions to the meat, frying first. I must admit I add carrots to as a good extender, and of course peas. Shepherds pie for me is not Shepards pie without peas. To the mashed potatoes I add one egg, milk or cream, butter, a healthy grind of pepper, salt, and a good cup grated sharp cheddar cheese, then fork the mixture over the meat and vegetables. I leave all the fork marks on the top of the pie. Cook the pie in the oven and then under the grill for 5 to 10 minutes so that it gets beautifully golden brown and crunchie on the top. Enjoy 😁

Hey, Al, thinking about the piglets reminds me of the walk-in refrigerator you built. Some new viewers may never have seen it. And I would like to see how you use it in your daily life once in a while. I was wondering the other day how your fridge had room for those big jugs of broth and then I remembered the walk-in. New viewers might also want to see a link to how you raised chicks before the lnsulated brooder-mobile. When I think back to what the homestead looked like just a short time back when I started watching (Great American Farm Tour), I marvel at the progress your industriousness has resulted in. The pigs were clearing out the apple orchard, there were no goats and NONE of the current outbuildings. Congratulations!

Fence post tip:after you start to fill the hole back up with dirt, use an old shovel or rake handle to poke in around the post to pack the dirt. It packs it down better than a shoe and makes post more solid. Just a tip from an old ranchwoman. Blessings from Austin Texas. Can't wait to see those piglets. I am getting some red wattles soon just haven't told hubby yet. Surprise, surprise, surprise......lol

We just bought a house where we can have a little homestead. While we have propane heat, we’ve been using fires (we have three of them) to heat the house. I will never get enough of that smell! It’s warm enough here maybe seven months of the year where we won’t need fires, but I’m enjoying it while it’s still stormy. 😊 You don’t need smellovison with me! 😂

I have become a complete FAILURE at the egg count...😂🤣😅 . Mama says that's what happens when you get to " smarty pants" about being right. ( she's only gotten it right twice...hee, hee🤭🤭) I need to get on a winning streak, cause my hands are getting pretty chapped from having to handwash the dishes every night. 😁 Gina, your Shepard's Pie looked wonderful. Would have liked to had "smell- a-vision " for that. 😁 The homestead is really looking awesome and I believe all your preparation and hard work as a family is really going to pay off. Thank you , as always, for allowing us to be apart of your journey . I am encouraged each day and always seem to find something in each video to inspire me to try something new, or revamp something to make it better and more efficient. Learning to, " work smarter, not harder". Stay safe and healthy. God bless you with wisdom and strength as you draw close to Him.🐓💕🙏😊

Olivia loves Shepherd's pie! Shepherd's pie was one of my late husband's favorite meals too. We made it just like you do Gina. Well, earlier in my 20's, I made it with vegetables in it, but when I married my husband, he liked it with just the creamed corn. I used a can of creamed corn and a can of whole corn. Great dish done both ways, with just corn or with the vegies. Can't wait for the baby goats and pigs. It's fun to see the goat's personalities.

When fixing the water pipe on the PPM, try to get some of the gray-colored exterior PVC conduit. It won't rot from the sun's UV rays like the white ones did. I know the pigs or or some other blunt force probably caused the damage but it may have held up better if it wasn't made brittle by sunlight.

Good morning. 3things 1- how about bacon and bits for the pigs names this year. I remember what is was about living traditions in their 2nd tunnel. 2- winch bottom posts so the tops slid down into them and 3- they made several hooks to their plastic and threw it over the top then they pulled gently and the plastic went up over and down the other side with no one getting on a ladder. They just did it in the last couple of months. Hopefully you will find it helpful on your first one. Have a blessed day.

For the pigs have you thought about fencing a bigger area and dividing it into 2 or 4 sections, then rotating the sections so you don't have to put up a new enclosure every year? You'd just have to take down one panel at a time to move the PPM into a new section. Then after a few years you move the fenced area and plant the area with veggies.
@tonygrimes13

@mimiso2522
@mimiso2522 4 жыл бұрын
@@tonygrimes13 I got that. I wasn't referring to the initial area. I was thinking long term into having a larger pasture broken into sections to rotate the pigs without having to move the fence every year, because the soil is so rocky and hard to sink posts. Thanks for your clarification.

I really liked the way you made a designated, firm area to begin your piglets in. I had wondered how I could do this. You gave me many wonderful ideas today. Also, as a former goat dairy lady with 20 years experience I would keep a sharp eye on Willow's udder. It will double in size just before kidding. Might consider shaving her bag as well as private area at base of tail to aid in cleanliness. Trimming hooves too might be a plus. Of course you, too, have kidding experience and have your own vision and routine....I mean no offense. Hope you have a wonderful Spring.

I still wonder sometimes why we never saw Mr. Green Jeans and the Dancing Bear at the same time. Hmmmm.

@Unit 419: that cracked me up, but there are apparently full-cast photos. I can’t believe that I looked. Maybe they’re faked...

Al, when you fix the watering nipple supply line, use pex. It’s more flexible and won’t be so brittle
