Good mornin New Yolk City .... why are you using that applewood to heat the house? Don't you want that for your smoker? Seems like that would be a much better use for it ... you can use any old wood to heat the house. Those apple trees have stood on that farm for a long time, and if I had to cut them down, I would use them for the best use possible. Okay .... off my soapbox now ~8^) Willow and the baby goat are lovin the attention. Can't wait to see them on some kind of pasture. Do you still have your trail cams up? Have a very nice week AL, Gina & Olivia ... take care.

Here in Texas, all our beef is grass fed. We have 12 cows on our place right now eating nothing but grass. Our county has 16,000 people and 65,000 cows. These are the cows that go to our supermarkets, so there is no need to buy more expensive beef touted to be grass fed from some far off producer. Your place keeps getting nicer and nicer. Willows baby looks just like her. Good job!

Hi Lumnahs. I planted my garden late February up to the first week of March but it is struggling because of the drought. I just fenced it in because a neighbour dog was watering my bayleaf. Today I must dig it up soak the roots and plant it somewhere else since it doesn't seem to be getting any better. I have okra and squash and watermelon, sweet and hot peppers and tomatoes, a few herbs and fruit trees. I am mostly looking forward to the watermelon. How was dessert?

How about a partition fence from the end of the hay feeder to the outer fence. Then the birthing stall can have its own secluded area, where the new mama goat can go out if she feels like it. If a wide gate is included in the design, it can be opened up to the rest of the fenced area when there are no goats with young-uns.

In regards to Willow, when do you milk her vs letting the kid nurse? Just wondering if you can explain how milking works when they kid. Thanks!
@dollyc4314
@dollyc4314 4 жыл бұрын
Since Willow only kidded one doeling, she does have extra milk. The Lumnah's could be milking her and freezing the milk if not using in coffee or recipes, to use in farmers cheese. I know that they were milking Willow from her pregnancy when she had Little P, Maggie n Lil' Man. They stopped sometime after they knew she had freshened. As their herd grows they'll probably be milking to save for goat milk soap, lotions, etc if they want to.

It seems people are panic buying Chicks as they want to become Homesteaders all of a sudden because of Pandemic. Same thing happening here in N.E. Pa. Everyone now wants to start raising their own food and their building shelters for the chicks out of the TP they hoarded! Don't get me wrong as some are genuine in their desires, but I'll bet too many will quit before they even get started and will have chickens running around in neighborhoods.

That little saw is niffty and wouldn't take so long to sharpen. If you cuts aren't straight and get stuck you need to file flat your chain bar, a lip builds up under the chain and nothing a flat file can't fix. I think the goats just loved the smell of fresh cut wood, that was funny how close they came while you cut. Your oven bbq is cool, we use manuka shavings. Can you smoke meat in your oven? I enjoyed this video alot, I'm scared of animals but the lovely moment with your wife and daughter and baby goat nearly made me want one hehe nearly. Thank you all very much. 💜👍🏼

Every Spring I look forward to planting: Tomatoes, Sweet Bell Peppers, and Zucchini. I try to get at least 1 new variety of peppers and tomatoes each year if I can. I usually plant Beefsteak Tomatoes, Green Bell Peepers, and Red Bell Peppers. This year we started Pepper seeds mom had saved from peppers we bought at the grocery store; Green Bell Pepper, Red Bell Pepper, Yellow Bell Pepper, and Orange Bell Pepper. I'm not sure if any of the pepper seeds we saved were from the new pepper variety we tried last year, Szegedi a sweet Hungarian Pepper that starts off pale white to orange then red when mature. We had a few that made it to full maturity and were delicious! Mom started the pepper seeds at the beginning of March, a Little too early. Most of them Germinated. So we Now have about 62 pepper starts/plants! Then we planted 24 tomato seeds, 12 Beefsteak and 12 Brandywine towards the end of March. Well 14 Beefsteak and 10 Brandywine germinated. LOL Looks like we are going to have a TON of Peppers and TON of Tomatoes!! LMAO

It looks like Caleb has a bloody head, I hope he’s ok. I’m wondering if Buttercup will be herd boss because of pregnancy hormones. Everyone except Hope is Willo’s daughter so of course they listen to her. I hope it’s Hope too, she’s the reason I came to this channel but I stayed for the people. I even stopped resenting any clips with tools instead of animals 😂. Watching Al drive the mule 6 feet I had a revelation: Farmers are the hardest working, lazy looking people. Driving a few feet to load more heavy branches to the pile directly affects how long you can go without being exhausted & how long the job takes & how much energy you have for all the other jobs you have to do in a day. I’m glad you guys didn’t have to do it all without technology anymore. If you like machines & computers, consider farming because imo they’re always on the razor’s edge of tech, seeing what they can do faster, easier, better etc. it’s honestly so impressive. I’m glad I’m beginning to learn what hard work goes into my plate of dinner outside my mother’s kitchen

Carrots, radishes, chard, kale, beets, and onions are all growing nicely (all but onions are under a small hoop house). Garlic plants are about 5 inches tall and loving the cooler weather here in Sycamore, Illinois. This week the nights are going to be in the 20s but with day temps in the 40s and longer daylight everything should be fine. This year I plan to train summer squash and zucchini to grow up a pole that will allow more room for more veggies.

We are using raised beds to grow tomatoes, squash, cabbage, onions, spinach, lettuce, asparagus, cucumbers, peppers, peas and we'll be growing beans out in the ground along with a lot of other things. We're hoping to try watermelons, pumpkins and cantaloupe this year also. We're hoping to be successful and have a good garden with lots of wonderful results. There will be 15 chicks arriving on the 24th to begin their lives here in our little farm.

I started out IN Boston, but now We're up on the MA /NH Border so I guess our growing season is a bit longer than yours. Waiting for our seeds to arrive from Burpees... everyone's running behind.. but we'll get there. Nothing like getting even a little garden ready to plant ... to find inner peace.. no matter how crazy the world gets. Your farm is lovely... thanks for the inspiration.

best asparagus marinade ever: gallon ziplock; add olive oil, minced garlic, salt/pepper, and secret ingredient - heftly splash of dark sesame oil; then grill on your smoker with the steak.

You’re still getting below freezing temperatures and we are up to 95f. I prefer the heat to the cold but I’d love to feel a cool breeze while I work.

I've planted English peas so far. Tomatoes will go in in 3 weeks or when night temps stay over 50 degrees. Then potatoes and herbs, peppers and kale.

I enjoy many aspects of your channel, homestead and of your family. Today, I realized more than usual, how gentle, caring, and dare I say, loving, you speak to your animals. It feels good to hear you do so. Have a good day!

Put in the garden this weekend. Tomatoes tomatoes and more tomatoes! Also some squash and cucumbers. He planted a cantaloupe but we've never had any luck with them. We prayed over the garden and will let Jesus take the wheel!

I used it help grow tomatoes at a long term continuing care facility... we would put the tomato seeds in a bowl cover them with slightly warm water and leave them for a couple minutes.. any that were floating would not sprout we would start the seeds in seed trays with plastic dome lid and heated sprouting pad table that had a thin layer of sand/dirt over the pads and a temperature control.... we would keep the soil moist . When the sprouts were around 1” we removed the lid . When they’re stems were 2-3mm thick we would put them in small green pots... when they developed a stronger stem we would transplants them into larger pots and pant a chive in each pot to keep away the aphids.🇨🇦✌️❣️🖐🐣
