Hey guys! Welcome to the FINAL SEASON for the "Main Series" of My Retro Life. There are around 12 full length episodes I have planned for this season. These are different from the "Story Time" episodes I produce in front of my camera, telling you a story that doesn't have a ton of Dad's footage. I thought we'd kick things off with this Resident Evil Gamecube episode, seeing as how the brand new RE 4 remake drops this week! Thank you for for your amazing support over the years. You have no idea how much it means to my family to read your comments. Don't worry, after the "Main Series" ends, there are still tons of stories to tell and videos to produce. Also - BIG NEWS ahead. Stay tuned!

Resident Evil is that tip-of-the-spear nostalgia for me. The game I still have is RE2 for the N64, the cartridge was underwater during Hurricane Katrina and it still works. Later on, I walked around outside when people were gutting their houses, and I found RE Director's Cut for the PS1 on the street. That series kept me sane.

I was sick as hell on my 11th birthday and home from school . My mom went to get groceries , and came back in about 15 mins . I remember yelling “ what did you forget?” And she walked into my bedroom with a GameCube (Metroid Prime Bundle) and a copy of Resident Evil remake . When I tell you I was speechless , I mean literally . And then I started crying lmao . It was about a year after the remake came out and I had these two game pro magazines I would constantly read and look at cuz they had the strategy guides in them (couldn’t just watch KZbin videos back then!) . Me and my mom were broke so I never even asked for it. I was content with playing Spyro and resident evil directors cut on my ps1 forever . But she was very involved in my interests and would read them with me and she knew I was obsessed . Ya know what , ima give my mom a call right now :) awesome video bro!

That was wholesome.. ♥ Since you were sick, and you cried, was it a snot fest? 😏 Just kidding 😅 I really like your story. My GameCube came from a Pawn shop. I remember, I was there with my parents (and maybe my grandmama.) I saw a black GameCube. Came with a used memory card. They gifted it to me. In my mind, I was like, "This just happened" 😄 Man, my GameCube was not a miss. It never broke, the memory card always worked, and I played all the time. My top favourites are Chibi-Robo, Harvest Moon Magical Melody/Tree of Tranquility. (of course the zeldas were up there too) My first GameCube game was The Sims. That was the only game I had at first

Those little moments of you guys just being kids are what I love the most about these videos. A lot of commenters give your dad credit for filming a lot of those old tapes, but you deserve just as much credit for sharing them with us. You two make a great team, even this long after your pop's passing. This show is among my absolute favorites on KZbin, it's such a rare and sincere look into what the culture was like, both for the hobby and America itself. What a treat this series is to watch, thank you Tyler, I don't doubt you and your daughter will make memories as special as these and I hope we as an audience can come along for the ride every once in a while to show some support to you and your family. One more thing, a lot of the older episodes seem to have become unlisted. I'd love to watch all of these episodes over again once the series wraps up. I noticed an extended cut of the Mega Man episode, so I'm also wondering if you have plans to do that with the rest of the older episodes?

Don't be afraid of being "stuck in the past," as that's really just a slightly negative way of saying you're _"enjoying nostalgia."_ I still listen to tapes, despite having Spotify premium, because they make me happy. If modern gaming isn't doing it for you, track down your older consoles and play what you actually enjoy. My desk doesn't have anything much newer than my PS2, Dreamcast, and original Xbox. I still play and collect for them because that was the last generation that gave me those feelings of happiness.

My personal opinion but the resident evil remake is the greatest remake ever made. I got it when it dropped I was 14 and I got the GameCube same day. I must’ve spent hundreds of hours in that game. Nostalgia at its finest. Game is 21 years old and still looks amazing.

Gosh bro thank you for sharing this. Your life story is so captivating and its cool that you have a dad that loves video games as much as you do. What’s more cool is he filmed most of your memories while playing.

Being from the 80s myself, I missed out on horror titles. Relaxed on the couch, just playing good memorable games.. I miss those days. My kids won't have cellphones until they're 18. Only when they're mature enough.

I don't really ever comment on youtube but I feel you on this. I may not have experienced the same things but I can somewhat understand what you experienced. It does change a lot when you get older but that is cool to see that you have a family that you can experience new things and share some of the old things with now. I don't have any old home movies like that unfortunately so the only thing I can share is my stories. That is awesome that your parents still filmed all those memories, def something to cherish.

This remake blows my mind even to this day. I love to go back and play even just to stay in certain spots and enjoy the ambience. The use of lighting seems insanely well done. I love that you got to make this title into a video

I'm extremely sleep deprived and clicked on this video thinking you somehow got the RE2 remake to run on the GameCube or something lol Needless to say, I watched the whole video after realizing what ACTUAL happened and immediately subbed. This takes me back to when I was like 6 years old in 2006-2007, watching my big brothers play stuff on the 360 and PS3. Definitely some moments I'll hold near and dear for the rest of my life.

As much as I wish I had a video of me playing my favorite games for the first time this is a close second from the similarities to both of our names being Tyler and born in April to the nostalgia of seeing those games on a crtv and everyone dressed like it’s the late 90’s or early 2000’s and shout out to your dad for keeping the camera rolling so we can see this time capsule happy early birthday my guy

Thank you so much for sharing Tyler. Some of were going through exactly what you were going through. But these old happy times of understanding the gaming and time together just warms my heart, and remembers fond memories thanks to this.

You know, I shamelessly own REmake on 3 different platforms, and Code: Veronica was my favorite, but I never actually noticed the lack of camera movement in REmake. Love your videos, they really show how games were a shared experienced, even with people you never knew.

I love Resident Evil 4 to death but this is the definitive Resident Evil title in my heart. The atmosphere, music, how scary it still is to this day. A 10/10 Survival Horror classic.

I love this. I really do. This video not only depicts a very personal and emotional story, but also proves how video games have this immense power to serve as a shelter from the real world and at the same time make us bond with others in ways very few art forms can. I love this video so much.

My dad was a scumbag to be honest.. I love watching your content because your dad was such a great father and family man. I don't know how to put it exaclty, but I feel like your content shows a side to life that I never got to see. It's obviously special, and I find it entertaining and it makes me hopeful that someday I'll get to have this with my children. So thank you for that and thank you for sharing.

I have a similar dad. He has his flaws. But my favourite memories was playing games with him. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. He would print out the biggest walkthough on paper. We would take turns reading and playing. But we only use the walkthough on the second playthrough. It's pretty much the only time we bonded, and saw him laugh.

Takes me back to when me and my Dad were close. Horror games are what brought us together. Despite me not liking them as a child. I miss having days like this with my Dad. His mental health has deteriorated drastically. I fear he may have paranoid schizophrenia. I’m always constantly watching what I have to say around him. When I try and bring up the old days he can barely remember. I miss you Pa. Wish you’d snap out of it..

I'm sorry to hear man.. Gotta hold on to the good memories man.. My father and I bonded over Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask the most. The only time we laughed and bonded together. I miss those days. I also miss my father from those days. I also wish he'd snap out of it...

I remember I had my first job the summer before the Gamecube came out. I had some money saved and was deciding on getting a Gamecube or OG Xbox at launch since they came out fairly close to each other. Seeing screenshots in EGM of the REmake and Rouge Squadron 2 made me choose the cube. Didn't regret it. Also those Japanese Gamecube game cases look cool. Like mini Switch cases.
