man i remember foul-hooking a shovelnose in SD on a quick lunch session once...that guy ran me up and down the beach for 15 minutes, maybe a 10 pounder. i can't imagine contending with that big boy on my surf perch rig

I recently caught a 22" stripe with a very similar "Scar". Not the first time too. I wonder if it's actually a common genetic mutation. Mind had the deformation on both sides, not just one side. It was visible on the skin/scales but all the skeleton looked a little deformed.

Most parking in Santa Cruz County is free unless you go to a state park. Finding open parking on the weekends can be an issue though.
