Anyone else notice the nice fish that swims up at 21:40? It appears in the water just under the rod by the 1st eyelet (closest to the reel), swims around for a bit while he's distracted.

Good stuff. You might not have heard the phrase before, but "low and to the left" is a good tool to put into your book when landing big fish from the bank. Eyefish coined the phrase, but it will really bring bigger steelhead and kings to shore much quicker. Forces their heads out of bigger water and you get more control. Especially good technique if you're not trying to wear out wild fish. As a life long salmon and steelhead fisherman, just thought I'd throw that your way. Looked like a fun trip! You know you're a steelheader when you leave the country alone to chase em!!

Does it matter which way the current is going? Genuinely curious
@BurtGummerrr2 жыл бұрын
@@Enrichie yes, even though the saying is always low and to the left for some dumb reason, if he were on the other side it would be low and to the right. Essentially just want to angle your road towards the bank instead of out into the river. If that makes sense.
@BurtGummerrr2 жыл бұрын
@@Enrichie line in the water effects the direction a fish is headed far more than people think. It started in boats I imagine, but just think about it next time you fight a fish and which way they head in relation to the road angle.

Whatever I'm fishing for at the time is pretty much my favorite fish to fish for. However, out of all the fishing I do here in the NW I think Steelhead hunting might really be my favorite. It really is more like hunting than fishing sometimes. Possibly the most memorable fish I've caught was a 13 pound native Steelhead way up an Oregon river that was only about 25 feet wide at that point. This video was really fun to watch. Makes me want to schedule another trip to the coast.

Nice video man! Also nice job on the bull trout! I’ve wanted to catch one for a while now but I’ve never gotten the chance to go to places where they live. Interesting that they can go to the ocean, I didn’t know that. Also not really that important for the purposes of this video but bull trout are actually not true trout but char along with dolly varden and brook trout. Every time I watch one of these videos it makes me want to get into steelhead fishing more and more! I just got myself a new combo that I intended to use for surf perch fishing but I may use it for steelhead next year! It’s a Okuma SST 9’6” medium light paired with a Diawa BG 4000.
@t-bonejones35762 жыл бұрын
That rod sounds great for steelies. I use the same rod for beach fishing and steelhead. Also coho, pinks, sockeye and lake trout (char). Btw ... Dolly Varden and bull trout can also be called pacific char and mountain char, respectively. Like their relative arctic char

Been watching your video since novemeber. Enjoy seeing you made it out up here. That trout is a bulltrout for sure. I'm going to assume this video was taken before April 1st. We have new boundary regulations changes since last season about what areas were closed to fishing and that spot is definitely in the closure until july 1st. Otherwise come back up for salmon in the falls and I'll be happy to show you more of the fishery. Cheer!

Awesome vid! Local river and yes, it hasn't been the best steelhead season this year VS last year which was way better. Nice job on handling the fish as well, a lot of so called "Experienced" anglers I've seen will drag a wild steelhead up onto dry rocks or even a couple feet out of the water letting it thrash around. The second fish is a Bull trout, they fight hard for the first 1/3 of the fight but then will kinda lazily come in but this isn't always the case. You should come back in the fall season for Springs (Chinook) coho and chum salmon, lots of fun and there are a few other rivers around that you can have lots of fun on. :)

And every year, it’s the rain and certain weather that pushes them into the rivers and sometimes the runs are smaller or they run at nite and it’s only a few days.. or short spurts and you just gotta be there when they come in. They’ll be there all winter though til spring spawn.
