Hi - sounds like a great start with Märklin digital - I hope you have fun with it. I have not seen the BR52 orange edition before. Looks like an interesting locomotive. As far as I can see it is a delta version, so an older/cheaper version of the the Märklin digital. Unfortunately, it means it will have less functions and no sound. It is made by Märklin in 1996 as a special MHI model. Looks awesome! Hope you and your son will have fun with Märklin. Enjoy ;-)

Looks great. I also have a Marklin starter set with the same locomotive but with only two traincars (one was a oiltank thingy and the other a flat car). It did come with a switch tho, wich is very good. It also came with a remote instead of a controller, wich allowed 4 trains to run on a layout.
@ModelTrainFun2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a nice little setup. I believe the remote is a very simple controller that only allows you to use 4 pre-configured addresses. I have never tried it - how well does it work? Enjoy ;-)
@shaggygabe7282 жыл бұрын
@@ModelTrainFun I couldnt really test the remote since i only have a single train in my collection right now (im still a beginner and just starting to get into modeltrains), the one included in the starterset, so i cant tell you what its like to run multiple locomotives with the remote. It worked good with the single loco tho. I hope i'll be able to test it out after a i get a second loco.
@ModelTrainFun2 жыл бұрын
@@shaggygabe728 As a hint I suspect that if you get a new locomotive it has to be programmed to one of the 4 addresses supported by the controller (check the maual). Unfortunately I do not believe you can program addresses with the controller. So if you buy a new locomotive ask the shop to set the address for you (make sure it is not the address of the locomotive you already have - check manual). Note: If it is a locomotive with a dip switch you can change it yourself - however, the modern locomotive decoders usually do not have this. Enjoy and have fun with trains ;-)

I really like your presentations. They are very honest and real. You are doing a great job. May I offer a little correction with your English? "Track" (singular) is used more often than "Tracks" (plural) in English. I don't know how it compares to Gleis/Gleise auf Deutsch . You buy "track" from Märklin, not "tracks". In the box are pieces of "track" (singular). You put together pieces of "track" (singular). We say "pieces of track" rather than "tracks". The road across the rails is a "track crossing", again, singular. However, a completed set of rails, like two lines running down the set, or in the country, would then be referred to as "Tracks" ("Hans is on the other side of the tracks." meaning there is more than one rail line, you are on side, and Hans is on the other. For model RR, you buy pieces of track, put the track together, screw the track down, etc., etc. all using the singular. That said, if I German were 1/4 as good as your English, I would be thrilled. I hope my unsolicited advice is not taken rudely. This will make your presentations even better. Keep up the great work!!

Hello, I’m new to Märklin C-Track HO DCC. The controller in my setup is green but everything else is the same. I did buy an extension set that included DCC switching, but I am having a lot of trouble getting to grips with the instructions on the controller on registration of a point motor to the controller. I don’t understand when I press ‘shift+spanner points’ buttons that the display shows two sets of numbers i.e. 1/2 or 2/3 etc, nor can I workout am I to press the buttons on the left hand side buttons or right hand side buttons. If you have a video already done would you please advise on where to find it. I don’t have the ‘3 rail system’ just the 2 rail C-Track. Yours truly, ross
@ModelTrainFun2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ross, The MS2 with the green button is the same as the MS2 with the red button - just a different color. Everything else is the same with the exception that the green is by default set to DCC (instead of MM) for locomotives and accessories. When you are talking about 2-rail C-track I assume that you mean the Trix C-track? Using the MS2 and the Trix C-track you can benefit from many of the videos on this channel if you keep in mind you are using 2-rail instead of 3-rail e.g. same turnout decoders, turnout mechanisms and same way to operate the MS2. For the MS2 you can use MFX for modern Trix locomotives and will have to use DCC for locomotives of other brands. When you click on the Turnout button you will see "Keyboard 1: 1/2". This indicates you see two accessory addresses at the same time: address 1 to the left and address 2 to the right. You can have a turnout on each address or e.g. a 4-way signal that covers two addresses. Check out here to see how it works: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZKyemuBgtFmrK8 Tip: check out the following playlists on this channel to see more useful videos: - Märklin Beginner: kzbin.info/aero/PLYAhs-Pox3sG31NwCfqIuk6IvI19q2czn - Mobile Station 2 (MS2): kzbin.info/aero/PLYAhs-Pox3sFts7dGFLb77e16yIodgG59 Hope this helps. @@ModelTrainFun An update, I'd be lying if I said anything other than I love them. The tracks operate better than EZ-track, and the cars a so small I can fit them in my hand. Perfect for what I want to do. I got a 4ft x 8ft (1.2m x 2.4m) table I was gonna use for modeling one of the many North American Roads I liked as a kid that I can now use for these trains. I plan on ordering the C1-C5 track extensions, 3 more freight cars, 2 or 3 coaches, AND another engine over time before I build my layout proper. I was gonna do something agricultural themed with my American trains years ago, now I think I will do something mountainous, in the late-summer early fall shortly after the end of WW2 on both theaters (1946-50). Geographically, I have no idea as to where exactly, except for two key ideas, a junction village, and in the Western Block. That's all that I need to really have fun, a basic idea; a foundation in which to tell a story, unlike the geographically locked basement empires here in the US...no fun, no humor, and to fragile.

@@BattleshipOrionI am glad you like it and hope you will have lots of fun making a layout. I like the mountains and making a spaghetti layout with trains entering/leaving tunnels in many levels. However, this is also challenging to make so everything looks natural and works reliably. Perhaps one thing to remember is that Märklin do not make many US models and the US model manufactors do not produce locomotives for Märklin 3-rail. However, there is also a 2-rail Trix version. Thanks for the nice video! I have one question. I recently bought the Märklin starter set 29074 and I noticed a problem in the operation. When the loco goes in slow speed over some of the curved tracks there is a small hesitation, like it stops and goes again. Do you know any possible cause for this?
@ModelTrainFun3 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video and welcome to the hobby with your Märklin 29074 :-) Regarding the issue you describe: my best guess is that you need to clean the tracks and/or the locomotive wheels. After a while the tracks and the locomotive gets dirty. In this case the power is not transferred effectively from the tracks to the locomotive. A typical indicator of cleaning needed is that you see the light flicker or very very shortly go out at low speed. When it gets more dirty you cannot drive slow. On very dirty tracks the locomotive just stops. I suggest you start with the tracks. To clean the tracks first try to gently rub the tracks with a piece of cloth. Check if dirt rubs off. I use Märklin smoke fluid to clean the tracks. Consider a cleaning car such as Märklin 46049 to keep tracks clean. You essentially do the same with the locomotive wheels. Start by visually checking the wheels. However, everybody has their own way of cleaning. Ask around, ask your local model train shop and find your preferred method. I hope this helps. Note: if I have not run my trains for a while tracks might be dirty and need cleaning. Often it is enough just to drive the trains... Enjoy :-)

Thank you so much for the video. I am a beginner. I have a Fleischmann HO Lufthansa Express locomotive ( 4378) which I bought new about 20 years ago. I only sometimes used it for display. After the Pandemic began, I noticed that under the front part of the locomotive, there is a small round metal button. Can you tell me what track & power supply I would need to get it moving? I bought it in Japan and the store has since closed. As far as I know, the loco has no sound and is not DCC. I am in still in Japan.
@ModelTrainFun2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hunter, Sounds like a nice vintage Fleischmann locomotive. Unfortunately, I do not have much experience with analogue locomotives. Did a quick search on the internet. You can find the manual here listed as a DC locomotive: www.fleischmann-ho.nl/downloads/detailoverzichten/electrischelocomotieven/4378-1994.pdf From the manual I do not see the round metal button you are describing... A guess is that it is for switching pickup of power between track and catenary - however, this is a guess from my side. If you have not used it for 20 years, there is a good chance it might need some maintenance before being able to move. As this is a DC locomotive it needs normal 2-rail tracks you can get this from almost any brand that has H0-gauge track (except Märklin). This could be Roco, PIKO Trix, PECO, and so on. My guess is that this was the power supply one would originally buy for it: www.fleischmann.de/fen/products/control/analog-control-devices/6735-msf-controller-transformer.html I might be wrong as I am not familiar with vintage Fleischmann. However, the one shown supports 14 V DC, so an analogue model train transformer that supports 14V DC would be the choice. Again - I could be wrong. A group that I would suggest you could ask is: www.tapatalk.com/groups/germanrailfr/ Also try searching on KZbin for "Fleischmann vintage" or just "Fleischmann". There seem to be quite a few videos with older Fleischmann. They may have better answers than me. kzbin.info?search_query=fleischmann+vintage Finally, you can do a search for dealers on their website: www.fleischmann.de/fen/dealer I found at least one in Tokyo (you need country and city). However, I suspect almost any H0 model train shop can help you and would have transformer and tracks for H0-scale. Don't know how easy that is to find in Japan... Hope this helps. Enjoy ;-)

@@ModelTrainFun - Thank you so much the detailed answer! It is deeply appreciated. ( I am old fashioned and don't understand a lot of the digital things. ) I also have an HO BR 232 ROCO #52460 "Ludmilla" Locomotive which runs just fine with a standard KATO power pack. I thought the small metal button on the Fleischmann might be for C track. I will check all the links you provided. ( I don't have the paper indicating the parts!) Actually I bought these trains in 1995. Love them!

@@hunterIII-vr4nq As far as I can see the KATO power pack is 12V DC, so you should also be able to run the Fleischmann locomotive with this one. However, best to double check both power pack and locomotive. Enjoy ;-)

@ModelTrainFun Жыл бұрын
Hi Arturs, To me I enjoy having multiple trains. So I would buy tracks so I can make a 2-track main line (double) loop. This means buying some 24230 curves and more matching straight track (same amount as you already have in the starter set. Furthermore, I would make a cross over between the two tracks. You can do this in two ways. Buy two of the same curved turnout (either 24671 or 24672). Or buy two of the same normal turnout (either 24611 or 24612). You can also consider having a siding using one each of normal turnout with two 24224 curves and a few straight. Finally, get one more locomotive and some cars. Perhaps a passenger train? Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-)

I have a question, hope you can help. I have quite a few train engines (high speed models, (steam) locomotives, etc.), that belonged to my dad and grandfather. They've passed away a few years ago, but because of all the fond memories, I just couldn't part with them. So I've recently decided to restart the hobby. However, some models are over 30 or 20 yrs old. Would they all work with this set, or is some adjustment required?
@ModelTrainFun3 жыл бұрын
20-30 years old? Are they Marklin locomotives or another brand? There is a good chance they are analogue. Take a look at the boxes of the locomotives. Back then the boxes for analogue Marklin locomotives were typically white and the boxes for digital Marklin locomotives were grey. You can also check if there is printed Marklin Digital, FX or MFX on the boxes. Marklin digital locomotives will work with the mobile station while the analogue will not. Analogue locomotives can be changed to digital - however, this can be a difficult and expensive operation. Many choose to stay with analogue for this reason. Note: modern digital locomotives can run on an analogue layout (although with reduced functionality). If you have a model train shop shop near you try to ask them. Note: as you did not state it - it might not even be Marklin brand locomotives? You can recognize a Marklin locomotive by the slider it has underneath for the "3rd rail".

@ModelTrainFun4 ай бұрын
Hi Schmidey, Mine works great. Remember to clean both track and power pick up on locomotive (wheels and slider). Stuttering can also be because it has not been driven for a while. Try a couple of rounds at high speed and/or oil the locomotive. @@ModelTrainFun Hey, thanks for your large reply. I already switched the power pick up part and cleaned the train and tracks multiple times, kinda running out of ideas. It's also not a big track so it shouldn't be an energy problem. I can't even get the train through the loop on highspeed, there are too many places where it just stops. Right now I am saving money to get another train, to see if the train is the problem or the tracks or both you know, but will prob take a few months. I will respond back to you once I got oine :)

@@schmidey6252 Also consider bringing your locomotive to your favorite local Märklin to see if it runs on their track. I am also wondering if you accidentally might have damaged the "pins" on the track when you connected them? You can use a voltmeter to measure the track - or a car with light. I have a car with light I use for troubleshooting in my cleaning trains - see here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5zIYnShq81jetU Enjoy ;-) Bo

Thanks so much for your video! I just got this starter set and I'm finding that the engine will stall in certain spots on the track (slow down or even come to a stop). How would you suggest trouble shooting this?
@ModelTrainFun Жыл бұрын
Hi Katie, I suspect that either the track is dirty - or the wheels on the locomotive needs to be cleaned. The locomotive picks up the power from the track and there must be good conductivity in order to pick up the power. There are many advice on KZbin and the internet on how to clean tracks and wheels. You can see here how I do the track cleaning: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5zIYnShq81jetU ...video on locomotive maintenance is available here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/amKmpaZjhNuBftU Hope this helps - otherwise let me know. @@ModelTrainFun Thanks for your reply and for the links. Our set is brand new out of the box, so I would be surprised if it's caused by dirt. Would you recommend I contact the company?
@ModelTrainFun Жыл бұрын
@@katofish34 Hi Katie, I understand that it only stops at certain points on the track. This to me indicates it is not a constant issue. Did you break in the locomotive? Best practice is to run the locomotive 15-30 mins in each direction in a loop with relatively high speed. If it runs smoothly at decent speed after this and stops at certain spots it typically indicates dirty track/wheels. However, do not hesitate to also contact the shop where you purchased the starter set if it does not run properly. Hope this helps! Enjoy ;-)

Hey man, really nice video! I have a question, can i install a smoke generator on this locomotive(7226 or 72270)? The "smoke generator contact" feature isn't mentioned anywhere on the website i want to buy the set from, but i was hoping i could add that function through the mobile station(if that's how it works)
@ModelTrainFun Жыл бұрын
Hi Charis, Unfortunately you cannot add the smoke generator to this locomotive. To be able to add a smoke generator the locomotive must be designed for it. AFAIK - even if you get the more expensive BR 74 version with sound independent of this set there is no smoke contact. I see two options: 1. ask your favorite dealer if they have a Märklin starter set with smoke - some exist, but I believe they are expensive. 2. Buy an extra locomotive prepared for smoke. An example could be BR 24 (Märklin 36244) which already has smoke generator/unit installed. Enjoy ;-)

@ModelTrainFun Жыл бұрын
Hi Stefan, This is H0 scale. I believe the measurements is accurate - Märklin do produce in exact scale for all but the longest models. You can adjust the speed, acceleration and breaking as you see fit. If you are into very accurate prototype look'n'feel, scenery and sound you can also do that if you like. Some models are more accurate that others and other track is available that might be more realistic for you. It's all a question of what you find fun and what you enjoy. I am more into just running the trains. I will never have room for prototypical scenery, accurate distance between stations and so on. If you have the room you can make things as much to scale as you like. All depends on what you enjoy. Hope you have fun with trains. Enjoy ;-)
