This weekend, we tackle getting the truck camper ready for our next trip to... who knows where! Emily also tries her hand again at making the perfect loaf of bread, and finally succeeds! Afterwards, we finally put up our Christmas decorations (yes, in mid February...), as well as give you a proper introduction to the two kittens we recently adopted.

Hi, we are Matt and Emily, and welcome to A Glimpse of Alaska! In September 2022, we made the 5,000 mile drive from our home in Florida to our new home: Alaska. We created this channel to document and share our adventures in this awe-inspiring state. We will be homesteading, truck camping, hunting, fishing, foraging, and doing everything else Alaska has to offer. We hope you follow along and enjoy!

Did you knead the dough after the first rising? Once it rises the first time, I knead it a few times. On the cinnamon bread, roll it out thinner, put way more butter and way more cinnamon sugar mix. You will have more layers of yumminess! I also soak my raisins in hot water for about 5-10 min, drain them well, then layer in sugar mix. I find slicing with an electric knife works better for more consistent slices. The more you make bread, the better it will get!

You guys really know how to make a sandwich! Good work on the bread! When you make cinnamon raisin bread try mixing the raisins and cinnamon in the flour and it will distribute through the dough evenly…

I will have to try that next time! I was going for a “cinnamon swirl” like they sell at the grocery store. I’d be curious to see how it would turn out!

I have heard that if you put a metal container with water in your oven , your bread will be nice and soft, with a crust on the outside only,

So glad you still have your Christmas Tree up! We do too. It does keep the spirit of Christmas in our home, and makes winter shorter. So sorry the Trolls have hurt you. My husband and I do not have a granddaughter, but if we did, we would like her to be exactly like you. We love you both!

The bread sure did look yummy 😋 the kitty cats sure are cute. My female cat is like yours, sassy & steals food also the hunter. Her brother was definitely more lazy & cuddly. I hope all the fur babies will get along 😊

Thank you! Aurora is making slow but steady progress with them! She’s gotten a lot farther with River since she’s the more outgoing one 😊

Something drained your truck battery and that is either you have a cell in the battery that is going bad, or something else is draining it that had to happen. Just because your truck had not been started in a few months is not a reason for it to be completely dead on it is own or damage the battery. If that was the case all batteries in car lots in Alaska would be damaged.

Great job with the bread recipe only thing I could suggest is put the salt in with the flour not directly into the yeast mixture. Sometimes the salt will kill the yeast if mixed that way. Your bread looks great. I love making bread. You can also use that dough and make cinnamon rolls which will be delicious. So happy for you. Have a great week🥰🇺🇸

Good morning from Godley Texas, love the introduction photos. Yep, extreme cold and heat are not friends to batteries. Good news on the house battery. Superb job on the bread 🍞. Taking the Christmas down is never as fun as putting it up. Cats are certainly entertaining. Thanks for sharing your time with us. Live life to the fullest. Looking forward to your next camping trip.

Hello, I've been following the channel for a while, and enjoying the ride 😊. I can see that you have two kitties to play with Aurora, which is great! I also have 2 kities, one orange tabby, lije yours, and a black and white. that wake me up at 6 am every day 😂! I guess it's a cat thing.

Outdoor lights up and on at least until the Iditarod ends, or so I've been told. Happy to share some sourdough starter if you ever want to experiment with that. Cats are such great entertainment, glad your two seem to be working out. ❤

Bread dough can be finicky, and you just have to keep at it, but you did a great job! Such a feeling of accomplishment and then you get the bread bug (LOL). You'll be making all kinds of breads now.😂

Just so you know when you measured the battery voltage it sounded like your engine was on,if so you where actually measuring the incoming charge from the alternator when the engine is off that will tell you the actual battery charge

You should put a battery tender on your pickup truck when you know you're not going to use it for a while, so the battery doesn't go dead.

In the UK we have a tradition that all Christmas decorations need to be taken down by twelfth-night, so I am sorry slight fail there. Your bread looked wonderful, but sandwich bread over here is not sweet, maybe a teaspoon of sugar in an 800 gram loaf to help the yeast. American bread has more sugar in it than a lot of cakes. Nothing wrong with the cinnamon bread, though, that one was meant to be sweet. Thanks for the content, I enjoy vicariously watching that which you share.

Time and patience I’ve found usually solves most issues when introducing new dogs into existing dog homes. I have zero cat knowledge. You two /3 are doing a great job. It’s ok too if it’s not a match ,that sometimes happens regardless of your efforts. Happy Sunday :)
