Each year I take groups of students doing a Coast to Coast Route. This will be our 5th . We have done the Way of the Roses Route a few times the route that goes through the Lakes and also finishes at Tynemouth.
The students carry their own gear, put up and take down their own tents and plan and cook their own meals. In the past the students were aged between 13 and 16 and we took group sizes of forty eight! yep 48!. It was an amazing right on the trip. This year we are taking students as young as 11 years old so the group size is twenty.
I am doing the route again to get it fresh in my mind for the students and also to see the campsites the students will be using.
First I had to get there. I got the train to Kirkby Stephen and then rode to Allonby. The route was exactly 100km and I stopped at the Spring Lea campsite where the students will be starting their tour.
The route that I took to the start is below. It was a lovely ride. No traffic.

I also include a review of the brilliant 12 speed Microshift Shifters and Paul Components Thumbies. Please Paul keep making the Thumbies. They are ace! or Microshift do some top of the bar 12 speed levers with a 31.8 clamp as well as your straight bar ones cause I love changing gear at the top as with flared bars the bar ends can be vulnerable to knocks and this method solves that problem.
