Is it possible to be a success DJ but not do it as a career? I've been DJing for 3 years but for me is a labor of love and not trying to use as a full-time career. I would like to gig more in my city. I have a platform, using social media and steady climbing in the established ranks. Should I do more or the route I am taking is fine?

#askLj I really want to learn how to use the microphone at gigs but I am a bit shy and I’m not really sure what to say. How can I get better at using the microphone and really hype up the crowd?
@Crossfader
@Crossfader 5 жыл бұрын
This is such a great question! We are doing a full length discussion on this in the coming weeks. A quick tip though would be to start off with something obvious. Maybe say " Somebody make some noise " or " Put your hands on the air " Once you start seeing the crowd react to what your saying. Your confidence will grow, but like anything it takes time! Thanks LJ

#AskLj I’ve learned how to mix and I’m blowing up faster than I expected! But I’m not sure how to advance from here, what I can I do to improve my skills and learn new things, I really want to dj for a club and I would love to meet artist and dj for their shows? How can I get to that level of being a DJ?
@Crossfader

I certainly recommend using one if our online DJ courses! If you already have some good mixing basics then maybe opt for one of our intermediate or advanced courses! Thanks - LJ

#AskLJ what type of laptop do you recommend to start DJing, PC or Mac and for some who likes using Windows or switch Mac and why?
@sascha.2001
@sascha.2001 5 жыл бұрын
I use a Windows laptop and use it for DJing only and i have really no complaint about using Windows cause thats the OS I used to learn since years. So i would save the money and go for Windows.
@Crossfader
@Crossfader 5 жыл бұрын
HI, Thank you for your question! Ill expend on the great reply from Sascha below. It all depends on your budget and minimum system requirements for the DJ software your running. Personally i have always used mac and have never had a problem but i know many DJs who use Windows (like Sascha) without any trouble! One thing ill add is that i use my DJ Laptop for DJing only and have a separate laptop for other day to day tasks. LJ

#askLJ I have just started DJing a couple months ago and have started networking, always practicing and everything has gone great thus far except when I try to post videos to social media, I keep running into a copyright issue when playing other artist/DJ’s songs. Is there a way I can post my mixes without worrying about getting sued or something? lol Side Note: I have not tried posting to KZbin yet.
@Crossfader
@Crossfader 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Coty This is a great question. The copyright issue is unavoidable unfortunately. If you notice on our Sunday dj skill mixes we tend to use a lot of bootleg and unofficial remixes, we also try to mix quickly and use techniques and effects. Uploading mixes to Mixcloud is a good way to get your mixes out there. Thanks again LJ

Where can I do a best professional DJ course in India? Which are the laptops to use For a DJ? Where can I download music from?
@Crossfader
@Crossfader 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Daryl! Thanks for your questions. We offer many DJ courses online wearecrossfader.co.uk Personally, I have always used a MacBook for DJing but as long as your laptop has sufficient power to run DJ software, theres no reason you can't use any laptop. Check the minimum system requirements from your chosen DJ software. Check this link for where to download music kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4fUmnqgirVkiJo Thanks! LJ

#AskLJ Do you feel offline advertisement such as promotional CDs etc still have a place in gaining initial awareness and/or maintaining awareness nowadays and going forward?
@Crossfader
@Crossfader 5 жыл бұрын
Yo Connor! I actually had a big rep for handing out CDs but like many others have moved with the times. Its still relevant if you have the time and money to put into it. But the CD is a dying format so id personally keep moving with the times! LJ

#asklj i am madly in love with the uk hardcore scene--it's been my favourite genre for over 5 years and i've spun 170 bpm+ since i got into mixing--but people here in america are hesitant to host a hardcore set even if the promoter or host themselves enjoy the genre, because they're afraid of "losing the crowd" to an unfamiliar/niche genre. i want to get my foot in the door, but i don't want to give up sharing the music i love to play genres i'm not nearly as passionate for or familiar with. what are your thoughts?
@Crossfader
@Crossfader 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! This is such a great and detailed question! This kind of really depends on what you want out of Djing. If you want to make a career out of djing then i definitely feel like having the ability to mix all types of genres will open a lot more doors for you and allow you to gain more experience, make connections, network etc. If your in it for the LOVE then to what your passionate about, find other like minded people who love the same genre as you do. Go to the club nights that play hardcore and build up a rapour with people and who knows, maybe put on your own hardcore event! Thanks again LJ
