Help Kumanjayi Walker's family and the Parrumpurru Committee attend the coronial inquest: www.gofundme.c...
Kumanjayi Walker was just 19 years old when he was shot three times and killed by police officer Zachary Rolfe. Since then his family and Warlpiri Yuendumu communities have campaigned tirelessly for justice.
Recently a court acquitted Rolfe of murder, devastating Kumanjayi’s family. Now they’re telling their story about the night their boy was violently taken from them, revealing the racism in Australia’s criminal justice system

An innocent boy? He was a 19-year old man who was a menace to the community with a long history of break-in’s, theft and property destruction. He threatened two police officers with a hatchet three days prior. Officers didn’t even look for him for two full days after so he could attend his grandfather’s funeral. He was given the opportunity to turn himself in afterwards, but he never did. Surely these people don’t think because they’ve been mistreated, they should be allowed to do whatever they want?

This was the first time anyone was even charged for the death of an Indigenous Australian in custody and still no justice. No guns in communities is the least that can be done.

I was not surprised that once again police officer not charged at all! . It is racism! If it was my wadjela child there would have been no shooting. No she would have been offered all forms of support before a weapon, taser regardless of what her charges may or may not have been! I grew up in Hedland (Pilbara) I have witnessed so many early death’s from suicide, police custody RIP Ms Dhu, RIP Tyrone Riley (many others) they immediately come to mind. From Onslow, Leonora, Wiluna and every town I have worked I have been shown big heart’s, huge families and I witness the differences between how I was treated to how the First Nations are treated in general from medical, employment, mental health, physical health, law, education and I do believe racism is the issue! RACISM! How this officer walked without charges is beyond my comprehension! To watch this video it reminds me of so many friends lost from deaths in custody, no medical treatment, no compassion! My sincere condolences to all Walker family, friends and letting you know we stand United next to you! What a beautiful fight you have undertaken in honour of a fellow human denied the right of family at time of passing, the blatant disregard for Kumanjayi Walker, and his family from media, courts, government and law enforcement. Beautiful, raw video of the love surrounding Kumanjayi at a time of grieving for grandfather. 👊🏽

Im surprised by such a long comment on a case you obviously know such little about. The cop was (rolfe) was charged and found not guilty as this fine young man came running out trying to stab the cops. There was also a inquest and was found fit and suitable to return to his position. They were there trying to execute a warrant that day for his arrest. The tried to execute the same warrant 3 days earlier and he chased them out of the house trying to attack them with an axe. The police bodycam is VERY confronting and the young man is Very aggressive Also they left out of this utube vid that there is/was a medical centre in that community but had to close weeks earlier due to safety concerns for the staff and also rampant theft from a medical centre offering free services. Also on the night that it all happened the rioting outside the lock up made it harder for the cops to move this upstanding citizen to the airstrip. None of that is racist and these communities should take some responsibility and accountability

H e was charged, and was found not guilty, by a jury. He resisted arrest, and tried to stab a police officer. He was a violent dangerous man. He wasn't a victim.

I see the truth and it isn't police fault. You can call me racist but Aboriginal people burning a medical centre men were likely getting help from for mental issues is not helping. We need to FIX the issues WHITE liberals blame cops and want MORE SBC (suicide by cops) until they all dead. For Walker's sake, no more black SBC but you'll call me racist for seeing the pattern.

After watching the the bodycam footage just minutes ago, I am very compassionate, being suddenly attacked with a sharp instrument (scissors) must have been a horrifying experience for the officer. I'm glad he was acquitted in the justified shooting and didn't face any serious permanent injuries.

I stand with Kumanjayi Walker, your family and community. I am disgraced beyond words at the absolute absence of accountability, humanity and justice. Every system in this corporate Australia has been designed to fail the very people who have looked after this country and each other for tens of thousands of years before colonisation. Yuendumu is a beautiful community with strong and powerful people and nothing but welcoming. My visits there will always be some of the best memories in my desert life...ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Enough is enough! This will not stop unless some drastic changes are made to respect First Nations peoples and their rights be recognised to prevent this from happening in the future. THE TIME IS NOW!! Nothing will change unless that happens! Accountability is key no matter what ethnicity you belong to. Why is it so hard to be treated with respect and as a human being deserving of fair treatment? BECAUSE RACISM IS ALIVE & WELL! I stand with the families and the community impacted by the devastation of the death of a much loved family member.

@@williamkelly9628 Where's the accountability of the coloniser and colonisation? Did the white coloniser take responsibility for their history of genocide and violence enacted upon indigenous peoples of the world here in Australia and throughout the world? The separate judicial and legal systems you speak of have already been implemented but not by First Nations peoples. The ignorant, arrogant, self entitled class you seem to belong to just need to wake up to become better educated in the history of the country you live in and become a member of a wider family that values humanity above prejudice, bias or racial slurs to name but only a few of the concepts that cause inequalities. End of.

RIP Respect to all family, supporters and community A police officer is not a judge or jury, a police officers job is to bring an offender to be tried for a crime. It is not the job of a police officer to take a life. Thank you for peace in your hearts and not wanting guns in your communities. Thank you for your peaceful protests to bring light to injustice. You are a great example of what humanity should be. I’m sorry our home, Australia has such a flawed law system and we project this on the world stage. Australia can do so much better. I hope the officer at least gives the apology that you request. 🖤❤️💛
