The discussion around designing your tank around the fish is so fulfilling to me. I'm so glad you're documenting this side of the hobby, probably a new way of thinking to many fishkeepers!

George, I am so happy that you and Tai are working on this book. I can't wait to have it. Biotopes and biotypes have always been my favorite, and I know in your earlier blackwater videos I urged you to create more because I love how you are able to use your aquascaping talents to create natural layouts effortlessly. So I am really happy that you have been so inspired by biotopes and might be looking to do more in the future. I think your skills will increase even more as you experiment with different substrates, blending different hardscapes, different plants than normally used for aquascapes, and using more botanicals. The behavior and health of the fish in their natural environment is just so different than in regular aquascapes or a "fish tank." When you try to mimic where they come from you can just see the difference. Excited to see where you take this all, George. I'll be here supporting you all the way. God bless, and take care!

Some aquascaper do think biotope scaping is much more easy than aquascsping ... it really is not ... the research you need to do , the length you need to go to maintain and keep a healthy ecosystem is hard ... ive been a biotope aquarist for 3 years now and i come from aquascaping ... it really is not an easy transition ... also biotope is biotope ... its in its own category as its not in aquascaping category ... the tank look great by the way ... awesome scapes !! Awesome aquarist !!

Really nice tanks. Natural looking and created for the fish, which look happy. I prefer low-tech underwater gardens, but there's something to biotopes, natural-looking or Black water tanks. Seeing videos like this I had to setup a wet paludarium with lots of wood, rocks, Peace Lily, Anubis above water, just a patch of crypts underneath, dwarf crayfish, shrimps and Endlers. It's quite a contrast to a planted tank with CO_2 injections underneath, in both maintenance and natural look. The Peacy Lily and Anubis plants are growing like crazy and the fauna thrives as well.

I'm really enjoying these biotope videos, both here and your recent Tropica Live, and I think they sum up the type of aquascaping that really excites me at the moment. That combination of building an environment for happy fish coupled with the artistic elements of designing a scape that's aesthetically pleasing. These examples definitely set the bar high and I'm not sure my efforts can compete but it's great to have something to shoot for.

Hi, First of all, I love your bio top tanks (especially the smaller one), I am coming more from an aquascaping background and leaning more and more towards bio top. Anyway could tell me a bit more about the hardware please? Any co2 injection, filtration etc…? Thanks
@dnbiotopes2 жыл бұрын
No co2 in any of them. Liquid fertizlizer in both. The small one is running with a cannister filter. The big one is filtered by a module filter, which is the big "stone" to the left.

The fire mouth cichlid biotope is absolutely fantastic! I've been considering giving my group of fire mouths their own aquarium to make them a biotope. Is the mollie in any danger? these guys sometimes get a bit crazy. Would they also share space with wild swordtails?
@dnbiotopes2 жыл бұрын
Thanks :-) I'm never experiencing any issues. The firemouth does hardly record the Mollies at all
@kasperkjrsgaard14477 ай бұрын
I’ve had Thorichthys ellioti with wild type swordtails without any problems. I would guess that the meeki is about the same. Obviously you would need some dense planting to protect offspring from being eaten, but it’s possible.
