Hi there. Infornative video. From other videos feom vandercampadventures and the travelling taylors it seems these reongy invertters imc inverter charhers are centre tapped not earth neurtal bonded. Is unplugging that connector safe to so for long term use and how will this effect neutral earth bonding? In UK and Australia a contactor to neautral earth bond on the output of the inverter is needed to be safe when using battery power.
@Dustin-r7s10 күн бұрын
the only problem I can see is that you have two locations that have the neutral and ground bonded. it might be better to remove one of the bonds so you dont get ground loops.
@DenaHorner-xv7wn Жыл бұрын
wow, you are pretty smart!
@bretthansen47732 ай бұрын
If you eliminate the bond at the source, downstream GFIs will not function normally as there is no way for the shorted current to return to the source through the ground wire. The neutral -ground bond allows for current return on the ground wire and therefore allows for a mismatch in current on the live and neutral wires which is what trips the GFI CB.

Would that problem exist if you was to hardwire it instead of running of the inverter receptical?

Good question! I imagine the hardwire would be protected also. But I didn't try.

I’m trying to work out my own problem, when I try to hard wire, my renogy 2000. I put a breaker box for my outlets, so that I can use outlets in my trailer. Every time I plug my tools or coffee maker into an outlet, the inverter shuts down. My tester on the outlets, test good. I might try your solution.

@@stacksfarmstead so far so good! It is working. The appliances that would trip our Regony 2000w inverter before are now running! Side note. My gfci connector was a little soft. My 2 k Aims inverter charger has a pair of green wires that hang out the back a few inches, with a plug between them, so that they can just be unplugged. They do the same thing inside.
@stacksfarmstead Жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with that inverter, but typically if you follow the wire back to the harness attached to the circuit board, it should be labeled per it function. I.e. gfci, or some kind of other indicator. I would caution you to be careful in unplugging harnesses and turning it on, without knowing what they do. Let us know how it goes!
@davidpotter9462 Жыл бұрын
@@stacksfarmstead oh, well I called Aims Power and asked one of the tech guys, and they said to leave the green wires together. It changes the way a yellow relay grounds inside. With the wires connected, it uses an earth ground, with them apart it connects ground to neutral. A new inverter costs $926, so I wanted to get it right. Mine is a PICOGLF20W24V120V if you want to see what it looks like. It says in the owner's manual that it changes the ground while inverting. If you leave the two wires unconnected and aren't hooked to grid power, there's no ground, and the GFCI function can't work. But if they are connected and there is grid power, the GFCI won't have a neutral to ground to, and the voltage ⚡ will be off kilter because of having an Earth ground. I sort of understand it but they use this inverter charger in boats a lot, and I don't know where they ground the case in that scenario. I guess it has a ground wire to the water somehow. I used to wonder 🤔 how they made GFCI receptacles work on a boat 🚢. I guess it's enough of a ground using the water 💦.

I'm not sure about parts, it's worth a shot calling customer support and finding out. I am having the same issue. HOWEVER, I have a question that I need your help with. When my inverter shuts down, the alarm starts beeping. Did your alarm also start beeping or did the GFCI just trip and the fault light go on? I ask this because on page 14 in the user manual it talks about various different issues, based on which indicators (alarm beeps, Fault LED lit, inverter shut down, etc.). Did your alarm also sound when the inverter shut down? Many thanks!

Yes,Mine actually would only do a short chirp before shutting down. The good part about this particular solution is that it's a simple plug/unplug the c.t. to test while troubleshooting. Let us know how it works out for you!

Does that GFI connect only apply to the 120 plug-ins or does it apply to the direct electric connection as well because I tried this and it didn’t work but I have it connected directly and not through the plugs. So should I switch it to the plugs and maybe that will work.
@stacksfarmstead3 ай бұрын
@raytonwhite4187 I use 2 of the 120 plugs, they are wired to a electric panel directly. In my experience different wiring applications can render different results, not to mention faulty inverters. This was my second inverter had to send the first in for warranty. Sometimes I can be what your trying to power with the inverter as well. Let us know how it works out for you!
