@TheJoejak6pac Жыл бұрын
@@John_Hoover Battery lasted around 2.5 years but I have the auto-light feature turned off all the time so that might help. I have owned 4 G-shock watches and this is the first one that none of the lettering have worn off in the 2.5 years of wear. Also the watch doesnt have any scratches despite heavy use. I take my watch to a watch specialist to change the batteries (there is 2 batteries in this watch), and since I spend a little extra for the replacement, the specialist guarantees the waterproofing. Havent had any issues since the battery replacement. This watch is a great watch so its hard to say anything bad about it despite the expensive battery changes and frequency of battery charging (2 years doesn't feel like a long enough time) but my other G-Shocks are tough solar or have a 10 year battery life so that might make my answer a little biased. I guess the only thing I would change about the watch would be that I'd add the tough solar features so users aren't dependent on the battery as much. Its a big watch with a lot of features, so its understandable that battery life is only 2 years.

Thanks for the overview. Regarding the lack of solar power, I see your point, but you talk like the watch is a toy with gimmicky functions meant for playing around at the coffee shop when you're bored, and not an actual tool. I'd assume buyers of this model either almost never use the functions (because they buy the watch for the looks) or they actually do use the functions but only when they need to - and these are functions nobody "needs" to use constantly, even if you're a hiker, fireman, soldier, etc. Besides, the battery replacement is not difficult on this model and the battery type is pretty common. A solar-powered watch will also die after some +/- 10 years and will require a more expensive/complex battery replacement. In fact, most people probably ditch solar-powered watches when the battery dies and just get a new one.

I've been using this beast now for a week and use all functions twice a day maybe three times depending. I work in the forestry cutting trees down, so using the barometer to keep an eye on the weather, compass for mapping an area and the location indicator helps me find my lunch and fuel for refilling my chainsaw. And I also brought a spare battery to replace if need be later on. So overall I love this watch, and recommend it to anyone who's work is a more tougher lifestyle and don't mind the watch taking a beating.

@hopper1315 жыл бұрын
You guys are forgetting the watch is sub-$500, has 4 sensors, and bluetooth Low-Energy(BLE). BLE syncs are minute in the amount of power they need, and unless you're constantly hitting the Connect button, the syncs don't occur. My steps are *only* transmitted, or updated when the Connect button is used or the app is opened. Baro/Alti/Thermo/Compass data is not synced. The white LEDs use less energy to iluminate the face in comparison to my GA-1000-1A's UV led, and I was getting about 2 years for that watch with two sensors. I changed the batteries the day I got it (November 2nd) in under 5 minutes and with the low-battery warning functionality there really isn't a reason to worry. If you can afford the watch, you can afford installing new batteries the day you get it and keep the original ones as a spare. GPS, multiband both use WAY more energy than BLE, so in a matter of point of view the solar functionality is an example that some g-shocks are overburdened by features and therefore can't rely on lithium batteries. Solar is their workaround.

Great video and model. I do think that the Bluetooth is a great addition which helps make it a modern day timepiece. Battery use not a problem personally for me, watch told me when it was getting low, but everything was still working fine a few week later. It took less than 5 mins to change, and batteries are inexpensive (4 for £5). Remember that all tough solar models still use a battery, it's just rechargeable via the solar panel. This will ultimately degrade over the life of the watch, just like a phone battery does, so it will still need to be ultimately replaced if that model of watch allows it?? - probably a Casio job. Great addition to the team 👍

There are two points on the clock that the compass calibration doesn't spin the watch backwards. These two points are within the 11th hour and the 5th. When you calibrate it. The hands part at 2 points on each side of the watch. At 11 the watch will spin up to 2. and then CONTINUE around the clock back to the 11th hour. Same for the 5th hour it will spin up to 8 and then continue around the clock back to 5. It's not a HUGE importance. Except when you go to calibrate it at any other time it runs itself over. AND you'r barometric readouts on the top left button become smudged. Next time your in the 5th hour or 11th hour go ahead and figure 8 calibrate the compass and youll understand what I am talking about. This goes for the grb200 too. I am assuming. its the same watch.

I want to make a little argument against solar: it adds another failure point, from a longevity standpoint. Yes, rechargeable batteries usually last >10 years on basic models, but so sometimes do standard batteries. I still have a g8000 from 2007 on its original battery. The problem with rechargeable batteries is finding a compatible spare, when it inevitably loses its ability to hold a charge. 2025 coin batteries are common as bread, the exotic lithium rechargeable ones used in solar watches are not.

hmm, this got me thinking. I was looking to buy a GWG 1000, but after seeing this, the $280 indicates that a new king will show up soon, and is not just a sale. Also the Rangeman It is not on sale so again an pointer that they need to move the remaining GWG 1000 sooner rather then later.

Can someone explain the deal breaker about no solar power, can’t you just change the battery
@jenhart17794 жыл бұрын
I just bought one 😁😁😁 and after this video, I chose the right one! Yes I drooled over the gwg 1000 but this watch has a lot of pro’s and only one con that I can think of , or from what I listened to. It’s not solar, so what!! I’ve had to replace batteries my whole life in watches , but none of them were this loaded with features. Omg please don’t complain because of that!! It’s only every second year!! It’s not once a week. Yes I’m a poor boy (not) , but I do appreciate good things when I see them. Oh by the way nice video. Cheers!!

I love the outdoors, I frequently go on hikes and I made the same conclusion that you did... the GWG1000 its hands down a wonderful watch, but this is better in terms of what you get for the money you spend.

Are people’s batteries actually dying in the ggb100? Haha… I ask this because I have had mine for years now and hard use it every chance I get. This year I decided to see if I could get the battery to die and haven’t been able to as of yet. This watch really holds up on the battery life, and can really take a beating.

The sad thing is this watch cannot set location in the app. We just can go back to our previous location when we connected the app. So for me the compass is no use for adventuring, except we only want to go back to our location. Im thinking of getting one of these. I really like the design, it's somehow eye -catching and makes you feel tough 😎 And maybe that's the reason that it cant set a location, otherwise no one buy the GPR B-1000.

I own this watch, can anyone confirm how the TIME check feature works? I live in the New York timezone and when I hit connect to check time it resets my hometime to new york. I figure this is how the feature works. But, I don't know how it know's my location. I assume it is getting it from the automatic time check that occurs every 6 hours. Does anyone own this watch and can at least try to connect and let me know if it DOES reset your hometime to where you live and not New York. THANKS! I don't know if it checks the gps or not for just the time correct feature. Like I said I think it get's hometime location automatically every 6 hours when automatically correcting altitude. thanks!

Why is the battery such a big issue? It's just like any other watch so when it dies you replace it. It only lasts two years at best anyway, you have to replace it eventually regardless of how much you use the gimmicks on it. Not like you're going to be in a position where the battery in your watch is the difference between life and death...

Would you prefer GW-9400 over GG-B100? Do you think GW-9400 would do good against mud and dust???
@derekwalter42384 жыл бұрын
I'd choose the gw-9400 rangeman over this watch any day. Both models are mud and dust resistant by the way. If you want an all digital watch, get the 9400 rangeman (go for the japanese version, it comes on a carbon fiber band) and if you want an analog model, get the gwg-1000 mudmaster. It's the optimal version of the watch here in this video, plus it looks way cooler.
