Are you able to open the battery door with that rig? I have one similar but the door just doesn't quite open, bumping against the rails.

Great video and rig. On my Small Rig I have the cage with the wooden handles. When doing the handheld stuff the Sigma 18-35 is a really heavy lens and the handles seem to make everything a lot more stable for me. Hope you'll do another video on how you use focus on the GH5. Keep up the great work.

@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
i think it works great! especially if you have cinema lenses with the gears on it. i sold my cinema lenses about a year ago but really worked well with those. otherwise on normal photography lenses you have the gear band that goes around the lens which still works but sometimes can get caught.

Hi Caleb, great rig! A question about the baseplate: I do not always need the follow focus and the rails. On the top side of the baseplate, is there a quick release plate that allows you to quickly take off the camera (with lens, camera cage, mic, and tope handle etc.) easily? If so, what kind of plate is it? Is it compatible with Manfrotto tripod quick release plate? How do you mount the baseplate to the tripod? Can you attach the tripod plate to the bottom of the fotga baseplate so that you can still quickly put on and take off the whole rig for the tripod?
@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
yeah you can mount the tripod plate to the bottom of the fotga baseplate. for removing the camera from the rig, maybe try a quick release system like this maybe amzn.to/3ollcju

@MySouLisBlue4 жыл бұрын
hi Caleb, i don't get the point using this follow focus system that is so far in front, i though with the left hand pulling the focus on the lens from below you'd have a better handling and a strong contact point for stability. do you still use this set up ?
@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
mostly for when on a tripod

I thought of mounting my Ninja V to the front of the cage like you do but if you have to shoot an eye level shot it doesn't work out so well.

That’s a nice set up. The sigma 18 to 35 is one hell of a lens I bought one when it first came out for my Canon T3i I now use it on my Gh5 ,it’s AWESOME!! My buddy sold me his Voightlander lens 17.5 mm .095 it’s crazy good on the GH5 for $200 bucks I couldn’t go wrong.. I need to get a good monitor I’ll have to check that one out you have in the description.Thanks Btw GREAT video👍👍👍
@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
i’m SUPER interested in those voightlanders! i was eyeing the 24mm. i still might grab one of those and the 17.5mm is a great focal length for the gh5. it’d be similar to that 18mm on the sigma. yeah definitely can’t go wrong with the sigma 18-35. thanks for watching!

Hi Caleb, thanks for your video. I have pretty much the same rig, but I am missing a follow focus. Is it really helpful ? I mean do you feel like it's a game changer when pulling focus ? Thanks
@CalebHoover3 жыл бұрын
i would say it's more of a convenience thing. then it's rigged up sometimes it's a bit tough to get to the focus ring so having the follow focus along the side really helps.
@fangshizhu93834 жыл бұрын
Nice work, Caleb! I am a GH5 user thinking of trying the follow focus (never use FF before). I have been debating between Fotga DP500III and nucleus nano wireless follow focus. Have you tried both and what do you recommend for first time user?
@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
i haven't used the nano wireless but i've heard really good things about and if i used gimbals more, that would be the follow focus i would use. i've been really happy with the Fotga. it's a bit big for what you'd need but it i feel like it is really smooth and i've been able to get some really great usage out of it.

I love this set up. I’ve always been hesitant to massively rig up something cause i love using the EVF. But with using the lcd more and more i need to build up a rig soon. Not to mention the gh5 cage looks gnarly 👍🏻
@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
yeah it’s definitely not necessary to have it rigged up all the time but does help. just showing more how it could be put together in a rig. i think if you were to start a rig the monitor would be one of the first things and there’s some pretty great monitors that come in at some decent prices.
@Ansonandco4 жыл бұрын
Caleb Hoover completely agree. I currently rock a feelworld ma5 but I’m also enjoying the no monitor set since the gh5 has a flip screen and i don’t need a monitor to see myself like the a7iii lol but i do love using for false color
@CalebHoover4 жыл бұрын
@@Ansonandco awesome! ive heard really good things about the feelworld monitors. I'd be interested in trying them out. yeah the flip screen is great! sometimes it's just a bit too small tho for my middle aged man eyes. 😂

Hi everyone! I can't figure out one thing about follow focus. People buy Nuclear Nano motors, Tilta follow focus systems etc. Why no one makes just a knob, that can be plugged into GH5 micro usb port? So that focusing is controlled by that knob. I am talking about lenses with their own motors like popular Sigma 18-35. My Moza Aircross 2 has a knob that can control GH5's focusing. Please someone just produce that KNOB!
