@@UpperState what would you say are the most important things to get first for filmmaking?
@UpperState3 жыл бұрын
@@SOLIDSNAKE. that's a great question. If a person truly has very little money, I'd suggest buying books on filmmaking, its an invaluable resource. Then buy an entry level camera and lens, buy used equipment if you can, to save money. (You have to have a camera first to shoot anything, unless you decide to rent, which is entirely possible) Then buy lights. Lighting will make the biggest difference in your footage more than anything else. Then quality Lenses, and upgraded camera last. Camera tech changes too frequently but lights and lenses can last you a very long time. Do keep in mind though that renting is very powerful. I rented all kinds of things for years before buying. That's how most big productions work.

This setup is sick though. The only thing I dont like about it. If you need to change the settings or see the settings on the Gh5. It looks like it would be a pain with how the battery setup is blocking it.
@UpperState4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it took me a little bit to get used to it but it's not too bad. You can also flip the screen out 90° and see it all the time if you move the batt back a little bit.

How much does a setup like this cost ? How come you’re not using something like a RED or ARRI ? I’ve been looking at the Gh5.... is it really that good ?
@UpperState4 жыл бұрын
Well that's a good question. I bought many of my parts used/second hand and that has saved me thousands off what it would have cost if I bought everything new, especially the lens and mattebox. I always recommend checking out used equipment at places like adorama and b&h. Despite the fact that this is a decently expensive rig, buying an Alexa or Red would add 30-50,000 on top and that's just out of my price range. What I've done here is buy a bunch of accessories that will work great with most any cinema camera so I can go and rent the body of an Alexa mini or Dragon for a few hundred bucks for the weekend and get a great image out of it. I invested in a good lens because I believe a good lens makes more of a difference than the camera body and I can use the lens for a long time in the future. The gh5 is an amazing camera for the price and still a great buy in 2020, but there are better out there if you spend more. If it's your first camera, definitely get a gh5!

@@UpperState not my first camera I use canon but definitely not pleased at the moment...it’s ok for weddings but now that I’m getting into commercial and especially music videos I feel the need to get 10bit 4:2:2... hope I don’t have “GAS” 🤣. My aim is to build one camera rig that I can offer atleast 4K to my clients without having to rent. I’m stuck between Sony and gh5 but considering all things I feel like the gh5 is more value for money. I can’t afford a rig like urs right now but my hope is that with each job I do I slowly build something like this.... thanks for taking the time to respond

How long does the battery last powering both the gh5 and monitor? Also, have you had any issues powering both, as some people say they have problems when powering more than just the camera via v mount?
@UpperState3 жыл бұрын
Using an Anton Bauer Xt90 fully charged the GH5 and Atomos Ninja V run for about 6.5 hours. Thus far have not had any issues running multiple devices; V mount vs Gold mount should be exactly the same. The XT90 I have only has 1 d-tap port built into it, not sure about gold mount variants. That's why i'm using the battery cheeseplate that has extra ports on it. The GH5 takes a decent amount of power (especially compared to my old gh3) but having the vmounts makes everything a breeze!

Loving the rig bro 👊. What's your thoughts on the S1H if not the unfortold Sony a7siii? Lol
@UpperState4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking it out! The S1H is a hell of a camera, and there isn't a whole lot not to like about it! I'm quite happy about the fact that cinema5d tested the dynamic range of it and found it to be the second best DR they've ever tested second only to the Alexa ALEV. I haven't yet tested it myself only seen it at trade shows, but am confident it's one of the best cameras you can get in that price range. We are approaching a point in technology that pretty much everything is really good and (relatively) really cheap. I Just gotta keep practicing good lighting and go from there!
