U forget something brother. If allah appoints someone as a leader, then they will be the leader. If allah appointed ali (ra) then no way would abu bakr (ra) have been the first khalifa , which he was. Therefore we come to the conclusion that ali (ra) was never appointed by allah swt. If u claim the people appointed abu bakr against allahs command. Then my brother know that nobody can outdo allahs command. Also nahjul balagha sermon 92 the people came to ali (ra) after the death of uthman to give him bayyah to be their leader. Ali (ra) said leave me and seek someone else. @@A-IbnHassan Secondly, the word "mawla". It's funny that you guys want to restrict the meaning to friend here. It means friend (as in beloved one), as well as master, doesn't it ? And the Messenger is our beloved and our master. Why take one meaning and leave out the other when the Messenger is both ? He's more of our master than our friend, though. It makes more sense to give the word both meanings for it suits what the Messenger represents for us. A beloved master. If the Messenger is our beloved master, Ali also is. If you have to leave out one meaning of the word, give your proof.
