It's so crazy how as a kid and teenager growing up, you think the music industry is so glamorous and exciting. You hear stories like this and know the industry is corrupt, but you see all the glamour and still think "well, the good still outweighs the bad", but as you get older and see what's really going on with a lot of these artists, even today, it's like damn, the music industry really is fucked up and corrupt.

my mom was a singer that turned down one of these record deals and chose to stay indie and sing cabaret for a living. it always pissed me off as a kid, I couldve been the kid of a star! She told me often, and wisely, how sick the industry is and how she chose her freedom and happiness over it, but I never fully understood. Thanks for your wisdom mama. TLC should have looked at owing their masters and having creative control, before they signed any deal.
