I like that you keep it simple. It's supposed to be a cheap and easy alternative to a greenhouse but iI see too many making it way more expensive and complicated than it has to be.

Dude, you seriously need a show. I'm a great dad. I know I'm a great dad. And so it's easy to tell that you are, too, by the way your son is so at ease around you, and how you reminded him to watch his step, and the way you look after him, yet give him plenty of room to learn and do things on his own. Do some more videos. I'm subscribing.

Use the grey electrical pvc much easier to bend instead of this nightmare I dudvit this way like the video keptbreaking trying to bend in cold weather assembly.. only 3 self tap screws with the grey electrical pvcl and you can take it down. Not glued..

Not bad, I've learned that you need to spend the money on really good greenhouse plastic. Dublin up the layers with a blower for the second layer. That way you can grow year around.

The detail you're showing on plastic, endwalls, connecting the 2x's and 1x's is awesome and informative for me as I build my own hoophouse. Where did you get the plastic? Farmteck? mega store? also, can you tell me what thickness? I'm approaching that point and would like to know. Again, greet work!

Yes, after all this time, the hoophouse is still up and as good as new. We actually took it down and moved it to a new property and re-assembled it and it is great, although it is definitely time to replace the plastic mostly due to the damage from the contact with the pvc pipes. When we rebuilt it, we actually painted the pipes with white latex paint to avoid further damage.

3 questions: 1. Where are you? generally speaking..... not exactly but like what state near what bigger town or whatever. Just to get a feel for the geography. 2. Could you use the pipe clamps that you found on the LDSprepper site on the side wall bands about 4 foot up from the base to hold the film tight; the place where you put the film over the top of the 1x2 wood strip, then under the next 1x2 strip and fastened. Then the second set of pipe clamps along the base that could be lifted for ventilation and you could un-clamp the entire sheet if necessary; but you could also just un-clamp part of it. 3. How did you cut out the slot in the larger pipe that forms the clamp around the smaller diameter pipe? That part looks pretty tricky to get correct; even with a block and a table saw, but maybe there's some tolerance so it doesn't have to be really precise?
@colavaughan7971
@colavaughan7971 6 жыл бұрын
Ok I got your reference on the questions from another clip that you are in far western North Carolina ;) I also have the link to the LDS prepper clip that describes the clamp system: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4mzlYWpZtuXZ8k So I guess my questions to this point have been self-answered! Glad to find out also about the c part of the pvcloride degrading the plastic film. Looks like I'll need to paint my pipe ribs and any clamps made from the pvc.
@ghog63
@ghog63 6 жыл бұрын
We are south of Nashville Tn. The problem with putting the clamps up higher is that the plastic got a little beat up from popping the pipe in and out. It wasn't really an issue being on the bottom but I wouldn't want to compromise the plastic up higher. You're right about not having to be real precise on the cut. We used a table saw. One pipe was cut a little too big and the smaller pipe would pop out if it got real windy but it wasn't that big of an issue. Never did change it out.

We are looking to build this exact same hoop house... But I need help with the sizing. When you ordered, what are the dimensions you used? Would it be a good idea to use one continuous sheet even for the end walls or get smaller separate pieces? Video helped so much!!!!
@ghog63
@ghog63 10 жыл бұрын
Glad the videos helped. We bought a standard size piece of greenhouse film from greenhouse megastore. I believe it was the 32' wide x 55' long piece. It is much better to use one continuous piece whenever you can but for the end wall, we had extra film left so we pieced it in and it seems to be working out fine.

I wanted to ask, on the end with your door is that that same plastic continued from the roof? Or did you put a different piece on the end with the 1x2's. I couldn't tell if you have attached it to overlay the end. Then pinched it to hold it in place.. then continued to streach it for the end wall. I like your videos, and your ideas. I look forward to your response
@ghog63

The roof plastic overlaps about 1 foot on the ends then a different piece of plastic cover the rest of the end wall.

I would love to watch this series in one long video. Ive watched the others but it would have been easier if it were all together. Nonetheless an amazing job. Do you regret using the black plastic on the one end. I like having a door on each side and being able to see thru it. What was the reason for the black pastic vs clear? And i noticed you didnt cover the conduit pipe before putting the plastic on. Does conduit put off the same gas that I've heard pvc puts off? I've heard this gas will degrade and weaken the plastic, overtime, causing it to rip earlier than normal. I covered my pvc sticks on my hoop house with white duct tape but its not a perfect solution. Mines about half the size of yours but if i wanted to use your design, i wouldn't want to have to use duct tape on that big of pipe for that many pieces. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you for your time and for sharing your project with us!
@ghog63
@ghog63 3 жыл бұрын
We used the black plastic on this end of the greenhouse to block the light from hitting our fish tank. It worked out fine. As for the barrier on the pipes, yes, the pipes ruined our first plastic. When we moved this hoop house to our new property, we painted the pipes with latex paint which has prevented the degrading of the plastic.

@ghog63
@ghog63 6 жыл бұрын
Well, we actually took it down after 3 years and brought it to our new property. I would say it is a great structure able to withstand wind, ice storms and heavy rain. We had an issue with the plastic only because of the direct contact with the pcv. Now that we have painted the pipe with a latex paint, we aren't seeing any deterioration in the plastic. I would recommend this structure to anyone.

We have not had any damage to the plastic due to any off gassing but the plastic did end up sticking to the top of the pipes probably due to the plastic heating up in the sun. It is recommended that you wrap any pipe that will come in contact with the plastic in tape. I was also considering using foam pipe insulation but I haven't researched it too deeply. So far it hasn't been a major issue but I can see it shortening the life of the plastic. Thanks for the link.
