omg this song reminds me of my childhood where I was dancing with lighted divas at night during navratri festival with hundreds of other ladies and I was only 8-9 years old I think. That view of all ladies with diyas and dancing insync still remains in my heart. That was mad fun. I miss my childhood back in india :(

This is a traditional folk dance called Ghoomar from Rajasthan India. The dresses are apart of the dance form! It accentuates the turns which is the main part of Ghoomar. It’s performed on special occasions like marriages, in this scenario she is a new bride. The word “ghoom” means turn 😊

This song is from the movie "Padmavat". She was women who led the biggest, of over 16,000, johar. "Johar" was a Rajput practice where all the women, whether young or old, pregnant or widow doesn't matter, jumped into fire when they got the news of their king's death. "Allauddin Khilji" wanted Padmavati as his own inspit of her being married to. And he asked to look at her, which he wasn't let to be seen properly because he wasn't her husband or brother or father or child or someone known. He attacked her husband's Kingdom and even after winning on the battlefield he lost because she and all the other women, a total of 16,000 women, jumped into the fire.
